What will be really cool, is the voicecontrolled AI-Bots, then:D I think that a really cool feature. Just because i have no friends, doesn't mean i can't talk to my bots, doesn't it?
Someone translated the irc-session.. In fact it happened in a german irc-channel. You can see the original logs here: http://holy.noris-hosting.de/modules/news/a rticle. php?storyid=184 and here: http://bitchchecker.brainblog.de/
It spread on irc a few weeks ago (happened on 4.4.2005).
What I don't know is, why it is posted on slashdot? Does have any infomational content? When i want to read stupid people on irc i read bash.org:/
has it already for years. And you know what? They don't even have a driver. It's funny, because there are windows on every side and you can look through it.
But i don't know what this article is about. As it states there are several cities with computerized subways. Since years. Without even one accident (atleat without a big, which we may have heard of). And besides that, i think subways have their own autonomous systerms, so one shouldn't be able to hack it from the net, at least. Next thing: If it is safe or not depends on the company that builds it, not the city or whatever. If the company does its job, then it's safe. Let's hope NewYorks subway has enough money;)
But you're missing some points. Come on, you know, that in most modern countries it's unusual when someone has no computer (at least the younger generation, not the older ones). And now, you'll tell me that in russia it's the same? Could it be, that there is not that many in software like, say, in america or western europa, just because many russian people don't have a computer? And ok, it's a huge country, but in huge parts of russia doesn't live someone. All i wanted to say is, that there are some _very_ high skilled people in russia. And it just fucked me up, that so much comments just said "haha, in russia, they have computer?" It's like the whole damn "in soviet russia the [random word here] controls you!". Oh, how funny. Every day, hundreds of times. What would you think when every 2nd comment would be like "in US, [random word] invades you" just because of your president and your stupid wars? I just don't think it's so funny, and i have the feeling that so much people here have no clue about russia, and that they just think so, because of old "ressentiments", just because it was common to think so about russia in the cold-war-times, and which obviously didn't stop, yet.
I'm wondering where most of you people come. I would guess America. It's funny, that the most comments are "Haha, Russia, they are stupid/bad". Are there some old feeling coming out? I bet most of you don't know a fucking thing about Russia, not even the capital city, but you flame on them.
And to the topic: I wouldn't say they are the best hackers in the world. But Russia definitly has _very_ skilled coders and hackers. I live in Germany, and from time to time, i see some software from russian Companies. And all they have in common is, that the software is very good in a technical way. Most of the time it lacks documentation and such stuff, but the Software is good. Examples: There is a NTFS-driver for Linux which is very fast and supports writing and enryption, and so on. I have a DOS-Clone written bei a russian firm in assembler with source code (interesting to learn). Then: There was a game called Republic made by a young russian, which is also known as a very good mathematic. And there will be (already is?) a game called Stalker which had tons of Previews/articles in every gamer-magazine, here, because of the nice graphic and some new ideas.
And besides, russia has atlest one offical hacker-school. I think it's in St. Petersburg and made by some well-known hacker. Thats just what came to my mind..
Nice idea, but where is the difference to apt-get and its various front-ends? Seems to me like the exact same thing, except that apt-get is proven and widely used.. They don't expect someone to switch to autopackage when so many distros didn't change from rpm to apt, do they?
If I'm not mistaken he is mentioned in "Good Will Hunting" as an example for a genius, that was discovered.. At least viewers of the movie may know him.
i guess you missed that this is the _official_ implementation. You want the protocol to improve? Then this would be the startingpoint since this is the protocol and others just took what you are complaining about to add some gui-features and perhaps tweaking options. I don't think that it's meant to be the best client out there, because, as you can see Cohen is mostly working on bittorrent itself not the gui. Isn't this about what you are complaining? He is not reinventing the wheel. In this case, he invented the wheel, gave his studies to the world and now is improving it (and others will benefit from this, too).
lol, oh no, you're all on the wrong way. In the german article it says: Through unionfs it is possible to change every file on the knoppix-system. But this doesnt mean the cd, unionfs just takes care of this, and if you, let's say, change ~/.xinitrx, it copies this file to the harddisk, which can be on NTFS (but this is called unstable..). And through that you theoretically can change the whole knoppix, install software, whatever you like, because your changes are on the harddrive.
it's just obvious that firefox dropped in market-share, because the world population increases every second, and almost everyone growing into the stage of using the internet will use internet explorer until they see the needs for firefox. I'm sure it must be the reason! No way Firefox can be defeated!! NO.
If you see what they did up until know (i mean all the libraries (eet, imlib2, etc. etc.) i highly doubt that they will start over a third time.
I am running e17 for ~2 weeks now , and i really really like it. Even if there are some things missing, it can be used in production and is fast, even with much more eyecandy kde/gnome could ever show. It didnt even crash a single time (current uptime: (05:15:09 up 7 days, 4:31)) although it is under heady development. The dislplay manager "entrance" kicks ass too, and the provided demoapps, which show of what their framework is capable of, lets me hope for a linux-desktop that gnome/kde-users only can dream of.
(for people who want to compile e17 too, here a hint how i got it working under ubuntu(with x.org): compilation of nearly every app failed due to a missing library. just go into the Makefile and add "-lXxf86vm -I/usr/X11R6/lib" to the line with "LDADD". And you need the corresponfing packages installed, too;) -> apt-file search Xxf86vm
(chances are that this can be accomplished faster, but it worked for me)
Yep, you should learn it. Python is just awesome for writing code quick and still readable. And integrating it in a game is just a very good place for a language like Python. Personally i can't wait until CivIV is released. CivIII was fun, but now with support for pythonscripting i bet there will be much addons for CivIV (as i will definitely try this out!) Hoping for Linuxsupport, too.
Out of the blue, he heard from Gabe Newell, the managing director of Valve Software, based in nearby Bellevue, Wash. Valve is developing what gaming experts anticipate will be a blockbuster video game, Half-Life 2, but it is also creating an online distribution network that it calls Steam. Because of Mr. Cohen's expertise in just that area, Valve offered him a job. He moved to Seattle and started work in October.
My first thought: What the hell? Can you browse through your Gnomedesktop online? Then, even more stupid, I thought of a browser in a browser, don't ask me why.
Mahhh, it's just to early in the morning and caffeine hasn't arrived yet.
While the second Xinerama screen doesn't support OpenGL (and probably any other HW-acceleration?) Twinview for Nvidia-card does. It's pretty much the same as Xinerama, but has HW-acceleration. There's something similar for Ati-cards, too, but I don't know how good it works.
What will be really cool, is the voicecontrolled AI-Bots, then :D

Yeah, but after the netfilter vs. sitecom case the GPL proved as legal in real life.g pl.html

they should just hire a lot of monkeys to test their software.
Besides, in this way the IQ of the later user and the testers arent differing too much.
