If it would help at all to have an active web domain for the community, I'd gladly put www.OpticalValley.com back online.
I don't have the skillz to create a community posting board, or anything close to what slashdot or k5 is like, but I'm sure that there are many volunteers out there that would be willing to help out in this area.
Anyone want to help out?
Here's The Deal I'll provide the domain OpticalValley.com if people want to code a community postboard.
Transmeta's new chips could be put to use for a vast range of "applications" (no pun intended.)
I feel it's a good move by Intel to lower chip cost at this time, with new announcements from AMD and IDT coming this year. They're just trying to remain competitive.
It remains to be seen exactly how versatile Transmeta can be with their product; I don't think there is anything holding them back from becoming an excellent desktop cpu, as well as being used in the mobile arena.
What I'm particularily looking forward to are more annoucements from Be Inc., regarding their R5 release. But, that's off-topic, so I'll refrain.
Looking at both companies in direct comparison, we see that they can provide a user experience on both the desktop and mobile platforms. I see no reason to believe that Intel is going to sit back and let Transmeta come into the market, without at least a little bit of active prodding.
That I can understand. What I don't wish to see is Intel using it's clout to completely push and smother Transmeta into a corner, or out of the picture entirely.
We'll gladly accept help over at OVP if you'd like to volunteer your time and effort.
We've wanted to do a linux announcement section for a while now, just are short staffed to really do anthing about it. Would it be worthwhile to create a submission section so that users could post what's new in this field?
We'll be providing a mirror of that list on OVP sometime today (when one of the web monkeys finishes his recess), and hopefully, this could be the start of a worthy project to follow up on.
A previous poster mentioned that when he attempted to do any work on an Alpha port, he had to search high and low for each bug before starting. I think that would also help in this case, to specify for which platform each of the bug(s) affect.
Anyone interested in getting free hosting with OVP, and is willing to do work for the community, please contact us.
We're looking forward to the slashdot effect. Never been tested that heavy yet, so bring on da noise!
You'll find more then just the link on the front page of the site. We're also trying to recruit people to volunteer their time. We know how important your time is, so if anyone does volunteer, you will be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I hate it when sites get slashdotted. Perhaps there should be a mirror for all relevant stories. Transfer the site entirely (wouldn't be hard), and then post the mirror alongside the original story link.
I'd be willing to host just about anything that got slashdotted. I'm sure my server could handle the horde.
Hmm... So, I wonder what would happen if we somehow tapped into our brains, formed a collective, and created some sort of Beuwolf cluster... Isn't this the internet? Take all those "Serial" minds and make 'em useful. -Duranos
What about helping him in other ways? I'd be willing to provide a domain and host it if he'd like to switch over whatever domains he wanted to it. I'd even go so far as to provide him total access to the "host" domain, complete with username, password, etc. What do you all think? Chris, if you're reading this, reply to this.
The point I believe the original poster was making was a feeling of resentment at being mislead. It's one thing to advertise a specific quality of service, but when that "QOS" gets to the point where it's perceived to be the same as what you have, it's natural to feel a little miffed.
So, I say again, Relax. Feel OUR pain. We were lead to believe one thing, and given another.
Luke never met Obi-Wan when Luke was nine years old, it was Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker, who met Obi-Wan when Anakin was nine in Episode I.

We need competition.
Hope this clears things up a bit.

Anytime you want to prove your a real man, step up to the plate, bub.
Until then, let experts who know what they're talking about do so.
It's these kinds of things that The Optical Valley Project hope to do for the community.
