Why do you say that it's sad? In my perfect world, I'd be more likely expect a privately-owned source to be tainted by the views of its owners, and a governmental one to be closer to reality.
If they want to ignore your email by automated means you might as well accept it, they aren't going to read them anyway. If you 'force' them to read your message, they are just going to be pissed off and even less willing to listen to anything you say.
Common sense and well said. And yet spammers and 'regular' advertisers can't grasp it.
I want my book in my hand (ever tried bringing a laptop to a fantasy RPG session? Talk about mood killer.
I don't know about that. I have a *lot* of hardcover D&D books, far too many to carry around when I DM. I don't need to have all of them on hand at any given game session, but I like to bring the ones I need to reference. I do bring my laptop so I can run some very nice tools (an initiative tracker, a very comprehensive die roller, a couple other things) I've written, and also to use the d20 SRD site so I don't have to carry around the PHB/MM/DMG/ExpPsi/Epic books.
Or for newer space opera, any of Alistair Reynolds or Peter K Hamilton stuff would work well. I don't think general audiences are ready yet for Iaian Banks or The Culture.
I think Consider Phlebas would make a good movie. There's enough action and special effects to appeal to a wide audience.
I believe this is extremely slow, and usually only done if you're becalmed or have no sails/masts left. I recently read 'Six Frigates', about the original U.S. Navy frigates, and apparently it was occasionally used to get a bit of extra speed, as when Constitution escaped a British squadron.
Interesting, when checking to make sure I had my facts straight for this post, I found this: The Captain's writings about the incident. Very interesting if you like this sort of thing.
My own guess is that the writers for Star Trek took 'warp' more from physics or other science fiction, rather than nautical usage, but who knows?
VLC on my OSX system has only successfully played one DVD for me. Since then it steadfastly refuses to play anything. Not sure why... I've taken to running it on a Windows system, which has no problems.
I use it because it lets me play movies without sitting through unskippable crap and accusations of being an international criminal, etc.
I'll give this new VLC version a try. I'll also try the MPlayer version you mentioned. Thanks.
By a coincidence, I just received a new keyboard from them on Monday. It feels much like the IBM Model M I'm typing this on now, but the keys feel 'looser' - there is a little more back and forth wobble on the new Customizer keyboard from Unicomp than there is on my Model M. Too soon to tell yet whether I will find it distracting or not; the new keyboard is on my game machine at home and I don't use it as often as my I use my work machines.
I started working on my CS degree in 1984. I guess I'm immortal, yay!
Not so - people in Harad and Khand can't legally purchase them.

> Can't say I agree with that. People lie, bend the truth, exaggerate, mislead and deliberately confuse every day.
Good people don't make a habit of those things - not the kind of people I try to surround myself with.
And the same goes for companies I do business with, to the extent I can find out ahead of time.
Babylon 5, the Minbari have something like this to coordinate space combat.

In Soviet Kremlin, OX puts CART before YOU!
Sigh.

And let some goddamned bank, cable, or wireless company plaster its name on it!

Lensman movies, done right, could be great.

RT virus scans and patches won't save you from that.
Sure you can, freely and legally.
Lots of girls like big dogs.
(I have 10" Dobsonian myself :-))
We all know what SoyFy Green is made from...

You must be NO CARRIER

Yeah, but you have to get out while you're young, if you're a tramp who was born to run.
Woulds have been funnier if the author were "Claude Bawls", per the joke.
Luck had nothing to do with it. Commander Taco looked deep within our souls, and assigned us a number based on the order in which we joined.
333333, of course.
Perfection!
C-b, C-f, C-p, C-n. There is no editor but emacs, and RMS is its prophet.
Of course these bindings would probably conflict with all sorts of things that the browser itself responds to. :-)
There is no such thing as overkill, if it results in one fewer SUV on the road.
