    The enrollment of law school continues to climb... I recall seeing reading somewhere that the US graduates more lawyers (percentile wise) than any other first world country. It's no wonder that the litigation seems to be entirely out of control in the US...

    This affair reminds me of the DR-DOS and Windows 3.1. All M$ has to do is to "support it" and quietly make sure what "support" they provide is broken in some strange way, and place the blame on Linux to [I]sabotage[/I] its adaptation. This way at a later date they can make the claim "users have made their choice. Linux is out."

    Considering that voice recognization is still rather unreliable (particularly when people get excited and such) I would think it's a bad idea until reliablity improves.

    It would be rather sad trying to pay for caugh drops with ATM/CC but unable to do so because the sore throat is causing your voice print to shift.

    I was told that to be a supplier for Dell, you have to cut your price to Dell by some percentage EVERY QUARTER. With most component having but razor thin margin to begin with, it is no trivial task to be a supplier to Dell.

    There are too much special interests involved; what law(s)that gets crafted will have loopholes size of oil tankers just to satisify the needs of the said special interests.

    Windows XP appears to track program usage (see add/remove program in control panel.) Do you honestly think that M$ keep that information are for entertainment purpose? I consider it without a doubt a market research tool, although I am also certain others would consider it a useful end-user tool. Does that count as a spyware? You can be damn sure M$ will make sure the crafted law(s) exclude that as spyware.

    In short, "screwed, we are now."

    The net in general has been around for quite some time; much of which the music and film industries has met it with open hostility. In particular P2P applications thus far has met with nothing but legal hostility. That said, I am suspicious this is but a ploy to lure out some of the application authors to be crucified at a later date.

    The correct nomenclature is "donation;" in the form of generous "forgiveness" of not suing and "contributions" of dead stock/tax writeoff of CDs that would've otherwise cost their "members" a fortune to warehouse.

    That's not the point. The point is that it can get expensive defending against such lawsuits. It's not uncommon for large companies filing meritless lawsuits knowing full well their targets are likely to settle since they can't afford the legal fees involved.

    In all seriousness, I recall seeing a story in print where the Soviets (before their dissolution) were copying US processors. Because the quality of the result were so poor, that some "instructions" were "defective" and coders had to "code around" the defective instructions...
