see now hackers want to enjoy life. there may be a few who would fly planes into buildings, but the sane ones want good times and fun, not havoc and mayhem. so you're looking at a very small number of truly dangerous individuals. OTOH some people just aren't competent they go from day to day not even realizing they are doing bad things because they were told they were doing things right. or rather they chose to ignore their ability to do harm, as if they were infailable.
i for a very long time felt that all i was doing was gaming, imagining, and role playing. which was partly true, but i was ignoring that i could be causing harm to people in the melodrama of my internet life. when i really started inspecting my life to figure out what i was doing wrong i was shocked at how far i could stray from a wholesome boring life of obedience with laws with filling my mind with chaos. so i changed a few things and now i read and try not to game away my life, but i don't want to be a cookie-cutter perfect clone to a role playing game of chaos.
as far as search with 2 proof of purchase tabs on every dvd and blu-ray you rip you can cut and paste the PoP and show the name or movieid number on said proof of purchase.
backing up data you own is in the law in the US see 'are emulators legal' on gamefaqs.comhttp://www.gamefaqs.com/features/help/entry.html?cat=24 that pertains to software and movies are software(yes they are they can't be played back without decryption which is done in hardware or software thus requiring code to run)
i haven't bought cds in a long time, but i still use them -- when a dvd or blu-ray isn't needed. i think that the idea behind this is to stop end users from wiping their drives or installing OSes thumbdrives are nice but i see more virus activity over that port than optical drives. in a netbook/tablet optical drives aren't needed, but in a real laptop or desktop optical media is a valuable tool, more than just for piracy.
but yes one can use a netbook and online games, streaming tools etc. but eventually the cost of clouds will surpass our resources.
dude the stargate is _fiction_ there has NEVER been an Einstein-Rosen bridge (which is basically what any wormhole device is) perhaps you watched tv and saw shows such as dragonball z or the movie thor(2011) or anything. if it was on TV it probably wasn't true (except reality tv which is all boring crap)
even if making a wormhole was possible, it would only serve to create a non evaporating singularity. if we send people into space guess what the vapor trail stays there in space forever with no way to clean it.
what you might have missed in dragonball is that all this wonderful tech comes from 'capsule corporation' an allusion that they make all the hallucinogens needed to expect space ships etc come from a portable capsule. altering the minds of the masses into believing they're living in a wonderful world, which doesn't really exist, except as signals in their heads. my mind works pretty good, considering what i've thought up in it.
you forgot the matrix. the computers invade wipe out all except "After which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female, 7 male, to rebuild Zion."
instead they unplug as many of the humans who want out after the whole place is all agent smith which neo then dies to stop agent smith,
trusted computing means they can put it right in the chip and short of cracking the case and replacing the chip there is nothing that can be done to remove a truly well thought out rootkited phone from factory. i don't know if CiQ is done in software or hardware though.
how about we not drive vehicles more than 50 miles -- thats plenty fine. we act like we have a right to motorvehicles when it's not in the constitution or even the rights of man. much less in the bible, which seems to have almost every other stupid idea in it.
we to have a right to freedom of information in the USA, so why do we act like we have a right to the vehicles and the energy to run them?
it took me about 7 hospitals and anti psychotic drugs to realize how bad it can get here in the states.
they drill you into doing stretches hobbies listen to guitar players and sing songs and of course watch tv and they read everything you write down and you have to talk to nurses doctors etc, and they require you to request food other than what is on the menu if you can't eat normal food.
they have books and puzzles and crafts, seriously how does doing crafts heal mental illness? i know it's damn boring and they let you smoke but seriously it's like they just want to see what you do, while their pills do shit to you. then after that for a while the court ordered meds keep you sedated, but after the court order you're free to just incinerate the pills... while so called charities give you fair rent assistance, like it's some kind of reward to not have to work 80 hours a week to pay rent/bills. and the republicans and democrats alike try to keep jobs low paying.., so that the cycle can repeat.
oh how they smile, just like when you drink coffee like it's 'normal' to work hard and take drugs. believe you me if you can't act meek in a hopsital they are going to restrain you and force their drugs inside you. then if you''re not doing afore mentioned tasks they slip in the drugs instead of doctor ordered meds, like it's all a joke to them cause they know you're not getting better. although i appear to be better i take 5 anti psychotics to 'act normal' i tried cutting them off but that was a huge mistake too apparently the mind becomes addicted to the meds. i can't say i've never been wrong or that i've never done anything wrong, but seriously i am not happy dependent on Rx meds that leave me drooling on my pillow every night.
i can dispel the myths on this, i have read a kindle constantly for well over 15 hours. but the battery does have decay issues. i got the kindle instead of a tablet, because i hate tablets but a kindle does things my laptop can't like reading in full sunlight. and my laptop doesn't go with me (broke a perfectly fine one traveling with it) being able to read on a trip is nice.
you sir are incorrect, i haven't found the specs online, but only blu-ray devices support 1080p and i was pretty sure 3-d didn't need dual progressive scans but rather two interlaced streams that form a 1080p image. but the wiki on it claimed it uses 50% more overhead suggesting dual 1080p streams. but as the 3ds shows us 3-d doesn't have to mean high definition.
besides 3d is a fad, with 18% of the population unable to watch 3d (seizures) and many more complaining of headaches it's not likely to be widespread.
Seriously, when will this victim mentality shit ever end? as long as babies are born victim mentality will continue, despite race. despite programs to help. hell i have victim mindset over here, despite many people trying to get in my way of getting on disability. despite having money to access computers i tinkered with. as long as people go 'poor pitiful ___' for victim mentality it will thrive.
i so agree with you on that one, but i'm not that smart, i am still the no fee computer tech support specialist. i use linux + portable hdd as a recovery disc without it many files would have been lost.
the most annoying part of windows is i use open source apps for almost everything. i use an open source browser, i have an open source media player(because windows media craps out trying to get every detail about the files on the net) i used to use dedicated open source servers, but then again i am a hobbyist not a professional and professionals use a vast series of tools i rarely use, the unix tools i know best are all text editing, grep, cat, less/more, libreoffice, or video mplayer, VLC. i couldn't code my way out of a paperbag and i couldn't admin anything, so i guess i fit right in here at slashdot cause there are so few who know what they are doing here.
well, when one distro (wary500) easily supports wpa2 encrypted wifi easily and linuxmint 11 can't it's majorly retarded. i tried the linux walkthrough which was totally wrong i had to try and try and try and somewhere i got it working, long enough for updates to show up, but then something happened (was still trying to fix it unaware it was working for 5 seconds) and then i said screw it, i'll just use wary500 instead even though it's got broken apps and other weird problems.
i've had massive problems in the past with trying to upgrade systems, and some things just work better under various oses.
i know wary is just english and just 128mb, but it has better wlan support than any ubuntu based distros! i don't have the option of running cables and can't change the router to wep it has to be wpa2...
thanks to developers no new game runs fine without a ridiculous fast gpu... i mean seriously dual 512 stream processing units with sli support? why the hell build a gpu that fast? isn't there an energy crisis? do we not care 'fu environmentalists i gots to have 2048 SPUs with 6core 2.2ghz cpu' seriously this is why i bought an ebook reader, no gas wasted in book/lumber transit, and 4 month battery life uses less energy than printing books.
i have tried many oses through the years, but none of them are great. they can't seem to get everything right.
holographic displays tanked when sega tried them in arcades. they did worse than laserdisc games. it was a load of special glass and small playing field. i only ever saw one once, but i know they were invented... oh wait it was a parabolic screen, http://www.definiteanswers.com/q/What-is-SEGA-s-HOLOGRAPHIC-game-4c120518a7a5b but as a kid it seemed like a holographic game!
the thing is, i don't like games like i used to, especially since some hardware is really flaky like cheap Chinese knockoffs. that and i hate all the remote wand/camera stuff, and i like movies better than games, but i refuse to have multiple media of the same movies.
youtube does movies now, some free, some with rental price pay per view has hit the internet... well actually hulu plus did that... but you get the idea.

some of those features have been there since windows nt, not the full sandbox treatment but it's not like windows doesn't have those sort of features.

well -- this is slashdot where they actually believe processors just need smaller transistors to do something faster.
and yet not one of their resellers offers their product... i smell vaporware. and perhaps fraud.
i heard about inphase when everyone else did -- and i can't find one not even at $18,000.
hey some people are late bloomers.

there is a reason why they lock up.

they tried that, the slot based pentiums. they were a hassle. then more recently they had the ball grid array to avoid the oft broken pins...
