"If people truly wanted what you describe, they'd stop using the big media companies altogether. Which comes back to my original point - taking something because you disagree with the content or distribution model doesn't make it right.
You haven't provided a coherent argument against that. No-one does - because they can't."
ahah you are wrong. there is the notion that 'nothing can be owned' usually for religious purposes.
we can see how well that worked for native americans, though.
http://www.lifealert.com/lifealertmobile.aspx why repeat this technology, and they also make baby monitors... the idea of 'smart clothes' is dead on arrival i know it's through a cell phone, but someone somewhere had to have thought of having wireless medical monitoring, people do not want microchips in their clothes how can you wash them?!? hot water is the bane of electronics and can penetrate most waterproofing, except full board immersion in polymers.
i don't have the answer for this, but i know when i screw up someone somewhere gets upset with me. when the government screws up we just vote a new set of jokers in there who screw up eventually and get voted out. the only way to help the poor is to give them ways to sustain themselves in a renewable fashion. these laptops are a technical tool to try to achieve this, but olpc is wrong. who is going to admin the servers needed to supply the internet connection? the corrupt government. they will block the attempts to use laptops/cell phones/tablets whatever it is olpc is trying to do for them. so if we teach our farming practices, how to grow things to make life better, irrigation, the building of dams to increase freshwater for farming, that would help reduce the poverty. and not in an every year, every day kind of dependance on handouts. if you think olpc is going to do this good luck with that. they have seen what cheap electronics has done for the 'civilized' world. we should not be giving handouts, hands up to a better world, not handouts to make more unwanted babies. just to get the drugs and food for those babies which makes them justify the making of babies to steal gifted resource.
Synaptic can tell you about every file that belongs to a software package it knows about and show you where it is located on your system. Search the database for the software package you are interested in and select it in Synaptic's main window. Next, click on the Installed Files tab to see a list of all files and where they are.
it's funny -- once you've been paranoid how things like that stop being funny.
i've seen people rip apart their rooms claiming there are cameras recording them.
i've been lucky i have only once have had auditory hallucination, though sometimes i vocalize things. the government pays for my drugs and my living costs, which is a good thing. the drugs have mellowed me out a lot. not having to worry about becoming homeless is also nice. but i had to change gears. the government might support me forever, but for that to happen there needs to be a government willing to support me. there was a time when they wouldn't medicate people like me, and i know some who stop taking medications. it just isn't pretty i fall apart when i stop taking the drugs my mind runs out of control it is a lot like black swan especially where she thinks she killed someone only to find out she attacked herself.
not secure enough. manually invent(steal) an un cracked encryption, like the cia building cypher. to learn how to do cyphers there are plenty that work out there that can't easily be decrypted without the key(map) to the cypher. then split the key to the cypher to 5 pieces with instructions to collect and decypher in your will etc. this way you can safely generate (in paper) the new passwords every month which get sent to a 6th party that doesn't have access to the disassembled key. i suggest you learn how to do the cypher without a paper trail other than the reassembly papers. in this way it takes access to 6 physical layers of protection which should keep your passwords safe on your end, now don't be doing this for criminal activity because passwords are stored in a shadow file anyways and is often the first target of would be blackhat crackers. on my own hardware i have retrieved passwords from the shadow file just to know it is possible. (i really changed the shadow file with the password of my account to the root account,)
toleration? what toleration? wpa actively seeks to cripple computers running a not 'genuine windows' they even released a patch that disables the update feature and acts like a virus... wpa even expires on legit windows systems that have been offline too long. as much as i like FOSS android 'ice cream sandwich' proves that FOSS has the same problems with commercial success as non FOSS development environments. the same thing happens with firefox and memory usage.
simple if 'everyone' uses centOS on open hardware then there will be plenty enough blackmail on every politician and government that didn't embrace open source will be wiped out as their lies get exposed... so hackers will have plenty of time money and resource. the internet has already caused the collapse of a lot of banking systems and the revolutions in many countries rely on open source tools to slip past dictators.
then again TV and radio were billed as game changers that would allow large populations of people to learn from the experts in a free and open discourse. also some people have nothing better or more exciting to do than to work with computers without being paid for it. i fall under that category and am permanently disabled (mental illness) which happened to me when i was an extremely hardcore gamer, since then i have stuck to easier games, and i am trying to read more, to keep my mind tuned up, without psychotic episodes. i also am rewatching things that i 'didn't understand' the first time through. mainly because i think understanding will help me be a better person. or at least it will keep my mind busy until it's effective usage lifetime is met.
we can see what that has done for corn and it's use to replace cane sugar, and gasoline.
the problem is not that solar isn't practical, it's American living that isn't practical. how much plastic is in the average car? a barrel worth of oil right? and we make it look like leather, because leather is so much more sustainable, at least as long as we have McDonald's everywhere right? I've seen a fridge with leather texture on it because clearly some fictional animal eats iron and grows iron/steel skin. sustainability is nice, but living useful lives are more important. fears about global warming is unlikely because the sun looses potency over time. fears of asteroids and meteorites is silly, because if naturally occurring accidents end life it's not a big deal, and the waste from being able to send people into space is not good. not everything can be protected, and some people resent being treated like they are frail. otoh forcing people to do things they hate makes them hate you short term, until they realize you were right. if you were right. if you were wrong it tempers their anger, unless they don't care about your being wrong or having been forced to do the wrong thing.
I've run a network in a basement. I wasn't ready at the time, but boy did i learn a lot i never parsed until i snapped, spent half a year in psych wards and learned the hard way I guess. except i am back here.
I learned how good admins survive the trenches in colleges. i learned by proxy examples of how things are done, without doing them personally.
but i am not an expert. just a hobbyist and tinkerer.
well the point was Google is once again doing something that was tried before in the past. sorry i was wrong about who gets credit for the idea... it just was VNC was my first remote graphical terminal/desktop sharing app. and it was called a virus by av scanners.
fighting malware and virii are a lot like fighting real diseases as soon as something is cured some new disease tends to come along. lets put it this way, i once heard of a server being hidden in a wall, just to protect it from accidental resets because it was vital to booting the whole college network. the thing is that admin moved along and the next guy didn't have a clue when the server used up its lifespan, the next guy spent weeks trying to fix it. eventually tracking down the box from its ethernet cable. so lets say facebook stops known phishing or virus sites -- then something else comes along... death is part of healing its the part where something broken that can't otherwise heal is ended. the part that i understand is this, trying to end all virii will never work. why? because everything has the ability to be broken. as long as there is a computer there will be someone trying to explain why it is broken and has to be thrown out.
they called it 'TV' and then they tried pay-per-view then the cable companies built video on demand. so that each viewing grid could have netflix like response before netflix internet streaming existed.
Does anyone else see this as being very similar to how the USA beat the USSR?
We forced the USSR to spend themselves out of existence. The terrorists are now playing our own game, except against us. Unfortunately, I fear how this will end for the USA if we don't figure out that we can't win this game without changing the rules.

and yet wargames 2 had massive gaming far beyond the original.

the whole idea of which was called VNC and was originally designed by At&t!

it showed as 1.01 in the slideshow. oh and he thought the 'write' program got phased out -- it didn't it was renamed wordpad.
seen it before it's called 'push' streaming with 'push capable' receivers, so is fully multicast compliant.
they called it 'TV' and then they tried pay-per-view then the cable companies built video on demand. so that each viewing grid could have netflix like response before netflix internet streaming existed.

i see the similarities.
to be fair i have tested many software and found them all to have issues, somewhere for someone.
if you have stable enough hardware any infested or otherwise software will still run.
some beings steal for 'fun' or to get arrested.. neither of the above would follow the 2 questions.
yes it is boring and tedious, but its just the old good cop bad cop routine. microsoft always plays bad cop, while open source plays good cop.
when you're ready for the truth email me, it's not that hard to figure out.
there is always a scare. there is always an enemy. there is always something to fix.
when all three of those rules fail then something bad really did happen.
allah the word means 'everyone'
i don't want to spoil the ending for you, but the truth is really out there. and i was able to handle it. it is a little sad but oh well.
