do you have any idea of how many companies had tried to put out 'rio' style portable music players? literally hundreds, so why has apple sold 150 million or more ipods? because they got it right, and they combined a sleek sexy music player with a cheap source of music, through the itunes store. I've explained to countless people they can make mp3's from most audio cds, and in general instead of learning a new program they ask ME to do the leg work of encoding their music. it takes money to use itunes, but it's easy to use.
and now, the ipod brand is more famous than the walkman brand was in the 80's.
the iphone is a huge printing press for money as well, they get money from the sale of it, and even more from the contract with at&t. jobs coming back to apple, and as the CEO really worked out great, so far. although i think even apple will start to feel the pain that so many tech companies are feeling from the global economic downturn that seems to be happening.

well, as few as 2 generations ago, America was filled with the 'small family farm' we're talking, maybe 2-3 pigs, a couple cows, and 40 acres of land. and of course, horses and a wagon. i know America doesn't go back many generations, but the British English dictionaries also have words equivalent to slop, what i was trying to figure out was when did slopping start in europe, or even better, when did it start in asia, i know raising a couple pigs and a few chickens has been prevalent for generations in asia, and really selective breeding is a fairly new concept to farming, in the past, you just raised whichever ones survived weaning, and if you didn't have 2 of an animal, you'd make arrangements with another farmer, to get a mate and breed the animals, and for a poor subsistence farmer it was more about cost than anything.
well, perhaps in the larger cities used monitors sell, but trust me when i say this, goodwill doesn't accept anything electronic that doesn't sell. goodwill has a very limited list of what they organization 'officially' accepts as donations, and then the store managers can make additional rules. many goodwill locations are in small towns where there is no geek culture to buy used computer hardware, if in silicon valley goodwill operates differently than in the rest of the country that's up to the store manager.

Goodwill DOES NOT ACCEPT JUNK THAT DOESN'T SELL!!!! i volunteered there for 3 months, in donations i saw quite a bit of what people have tried to offload there, and they simply can't get rid of much of it, and they don't have good recycling programs so they trash a lot of crap...
what do you think causes the heart attack? is air full of cholesterol? no, black soot coats the lungs making the heart work harder, leasing to heart disease.
