Honestly, unless you're willing to shell out the $$ for a pro-level printer and paper, it's cheaper to use an online service. I would avoid the Walmarts and Costcos, though I'm sure their service is fine, but I personally use and recommend White House Custom Color (www.whcc.com). Get on their mailing list for occasional discounts. Haven't done anything in bulk with them, though.
[...] what certainty do pledgers have that the game that they have paid for will ever see the light of day?
None. None at all. And that's the beauty of it. Kickstarter is the ultimate expression of capitalist society. All risk, unknown reward. If you want someone to pitch in for your idea, you have to return the favor. We weren't meant to all be worker drones, but rather to be free to make a living as our own entity. It takes a set of brass ones to stick yourself out there, and it lights a fire under your butt to get a response like "Hell yeah! Do it! I'll throw in $10 just to see you TRY."
The U.S. contribution to ITER would also grow by $73 million, to $178 million. That amount is $28 million higher than the request.
[...]
To help pay for the fusion increases, the committee made major cuts to DOE's Basic Energy Sciences account, which funds studies in an array of fields, including chemistry, geosciences, and biology. That account would get $1.7 billion, $36.9 million below this year's level and $142.5 million below the Administration's request. The bulk of the savings would come from canceling or delaying construction projects.
[...]
Research into fossil and nuclear energy, meanwhile, would grow. The bill includes $554 million—$207 million above last year's level—for development of coal, natural gas, oil, and other fossil energy technologies. It also includes $765 million for nuclear energy research.
So in other words, ITER fusion (tokamak) and old school crap fossil fuel are getting a boost at the expense of forward-looking science research, which got majorly AXED.
Is this a good thing at all? I tend to agree with the few who think that the Tokamak research is a distraction, keeping funds away from other forms of fusion research that are more viable.
A number of fusion researchers working on non-tokamak systems, such as Robert Bussard and Eric Lerner, have been critical of ITER for diverting funding that they believe could be used for their potentially more reasonable and/or cost effective fusion power plant designs.[34][35] Criticisms levied often revolve around claims of the unwillingness by ITER researchers to face up to potential problems (both technical and economic).[34]
Are they completely ignorant of the ubiquity of cameras today? Forget the fact that most of those cameras are attached to something that can easily upload images to the world at large.
This deserves a flash-mob style constant bombardment of images from the Olympics being uploaded during the games. Even if we get bored to tears of the sheer volume of Olympics photos uploaded, just overwhelm them with the obviousness of their own stupidity.
Forget that, there's this obscure game called netrek that beats Everquest by about ten years. And if you're going to talk about multiple users in 'virtual space', that's pretty much all netrek is.
The algorithm must enable a satellite to accomplish a feat that’s very difficult to do autonomously: capture a space object that’s tumbling, spinning or moving in the opposite direction.
So you shoot a sticky mass attached to a tether at the tumbling satellite/mass/whatever, let it wrap around a couple of times, then slowly start increasing tension on the line. Just like catching a fish. You could do that entirely mechanically, including attitude control of the capture satellite, especially if the mass of the target "spinner" is known.
I fail to see how that requires an algorithm or much programming at all, really. Follow the KISS principle.
[...] proof that any server-based digital goods you 'own' can vanish on a corporation's whim.
It amazes me that anyone has ever thought otherwise.
After 30 years of using computers and a CS degree, I can say one thing about any "pile of bits" on a computer: it doesn't really exist. Print your photos or use film. Keep your cd's and DVD's. Print out your important docs and put them in a lockbox.
I can't wait to show my grandkids the Amiga floppies all my old school work is on...(which require an Amiga floppy drive, which is physically different from a PC floppy drive)
I picked up a Canon S95 after owning an older model that lasted me for years. The S100 is the newest model upgrade from that, fits in your pocket, and has a fully manual mode, right down to the focus. Not bad for a point-n-shoot. The lens is the equivalent of 24mm-120mm zoom on a 35mm camera.
Pretty decent range of capabilities out of the box, but you can also expand on the range using CHDK, if you don't mind getting a bit technical.
Well, I didn't say, "TO THE EXTREME", nor did I even say "live every day like its your last".
However, what I'm left wondering is why on Earth you equate "live every day like its your last" (keep in mind, all I said was, carefully evaluate how you want to live your remaining days) as spending beyond your means or even spending beyond what you imagine to be an unattainable sum of money.
Why also would you need a timer to tell you how much time you have left? Yes, plans are great, but would you really be happy if you knew for certain and just sat and watched the plan unfold day after day? Maybe I just much prefer the chaotic unknowingness that is day to day life. Plans seldom account for the happenstance that is opportunity.

Why wait until you're faced with aggressive, difficult treatment? How do you want to live your remaining days now? Your life is already terminal enough to carefully evaluate that.
I can second this. I've got an S95 (previous model) and love it. Full automatic to full manual mode and fits in your pocket. Has the sensor of the low-end Canon SLR's - much better than the sensor used in many point-n-shoots. The S90 was also very good, but only does standard video, not HD.
I bought it after owning a Canon S230 for 8 years. I loved that one so much (built like a tank, and got some great shots out of it) I got the S90, then upgraded to the S95 shortly after. Find one of those if you don't want to pay full price for the S100.
CHDK also works on the S90 and S95 (don't know about the S100 yet), if you want to do some advanced hacking (like writing scripts!)
I could see a case where someone's life may be in jeopardy if there was a searchable index of SSID names that automatically zooms into a location on a map. Someone being stalked by an aggressive ex, for instance, who doesn't realize their SSID is tied to a map location that is easily searchable. Let's say said aggro ex set up the WAP in first place and so knows the SSID but lost it in the divorce/breakup, or even willingly gave it up knowing they'd eventually be able to search for it via google maps.
All careers in Hollywood are based on lies. Having myself attempted to break into commercial voice acting, it was often a question as to whether you (as a voice actor) should include your mugshot. The specialty of the woman who taught my classes was the "teenage girl" part. Why not use an actual teenage girl? Because she was a much better actor in her 40's and 50's, yet can still sound like a teenager. Is it a lie for her to audition for teenager parts? Would she have gotten the audition (just the chance to tryout for the part) if she included a picture of herself as a 40-year-old? Keep in mind that Bart Simpson wouldn't have the voice he does if Nancy Cartwright hadn't come in to audition for Lisa's part. Does that make Bart's voice a lie?
This is the first 'official' statement that came out on Sept. 29th:
This was unanimously voted on by all members of Occupy Wall Street last night, around 8pm, Sept 29. It is our first official document for release. We have three more underway, that will likely be released in the upcoming days: 1) A declaration of demands. 2) Principles of Solidarity 3) Documentation on how to form your own Direct Democracy Occupation Group. This is a living document. you can receive an official press copy of the latest version by emailing c2anycga@gmail.com.
Declaration of the Occupation of New York City
As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.
As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.
They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

This is exactly it. Megaupload's entire business model was advertising views and click through for any file that generated traffic.
Most of the other "cloudbox" providers charge you for space, which to me is more like a self-storage unit.
