Maybe because they don't know the first thing about efficiency? You'd be surprised how much programmers don't know/care about efficiency. Once, incidentilly also on a crawler (student project), I improved the function reading a tree of URL's from 1 hour(!) to 0.1second! The guy tested it on an example with 10 URL's and it worked, but his implementation was O(n^2) and involved copying huge amounts of memory each step. Don't ask me how he thought this would be scalable.
The resolution of MRO is really simple to calculate: at 300km, you get 30cm/pixel. So at 100km, you'd get 10cm/pixel. I'm really looking forward to see that kind of image of MGS, but without contact, how long can they wait before the orbit becomes uncertain? Pointing would be really difficult IMO.
Oh, the same kind of crowd who remove the mudguards on their bicycles to save 200g, not realizing that the rain and mud splattered on their clothes will weigh more than that.
It's not a matter of weight, its a matter of air resistance. Those mudguards can really slow you down. Just take them off for a while to notice the difference.
The fact is that drugs *can* make a citizen less productive. Less productive citizens produce fewer goods. Fewer goods means less tax. Less tax means the State suffers.
When you do anything that harms yourself, you are, in effect, stealing from the State.
So, you are property of the state, and if you're not productive, you're a thief? Man that sucks. Could you please tell me where you live so I can avoid that dystopian place? Thanks.
Irrelevant. If you can smear out these "fact" in the media long enough, it will ruin your life. Even if you win the case in court, you will have lost a lot.
And don't forget that the support for Qt is superb. I have worked with them, and any time I had a question they responded quickly and to the point. Really a great company.
Yes, but now we can include our own messages. I've sent: "To whoever finds this note, I have been imprisoned by my father, who wishes me to marry against my will. Please, please, please come and rescue me. I am in the tall tower of Swamp Castle."
That should make it an interesting day when their invasion army warps into orbit.
How should I know wheither you should subscribe to a magazine or not? What's next? Ask Slashdot: should I wear my green T-shirt or my yellow one? Make up your own mind! We're all different!:)
It's positive to see we won't grow bored quickly once humanity gets tired of playing war. But if you compare the budget spent on war and compare that to space exploration, it's more of a depressing thought.
It does send out a great message saying "look what we can do with today's technology", but most people seem to lack a sense of imagination to see the possibilites if we really were determined to go out there. In fact, we should have been a lot further if you simply look at people were doing 40 years ago. Now we can start all over.
Personally I'm awaiting the arrival of the first melting pot on the moon. That would mean we're in business.
They show the first paragraph and a link to the article. That's just like the context google shows when you search for a term. Now about the court order, there was only one party at the hearing, google never got an invitation. This is one of those fast procedures, and being a belgian myself, I truely believe our courts are perfectly capable of messing up like this. This is not the last of it; google will want to defend itself.
I mean, before bashing on other people, they might just have looked at their own site.. The page contains 160 images (is that really neccesary?)), When I hit back I got a "malformed URL" message, and frankly, it's just an ugly and awkward site IMO.
I really, really doubt that the licence cost is an issue when talking about millions of dollars (even for those low-cost missions). Instead, the real advantage in using linux for robotics (IMO) is the network transparency. Remote access is no issue with Linux (or any other unixish OS for that matter). It has lots of network protocols too (AX25 comes to mind).
One issue might be the code size. Remember that the Mars Exploration Rovers had multiple software upgrades sent over during the mission. An embedded RTOS is usually smaller in size, so that's a real time saver. But then again, with linux you could simply include gcc in the rover, send over the diff's, and let the rover compile the flight software in situ, and compare the output with md5. That would be a first! And you could simply interrupt the make process if the power runs low, and restart later. A standard make will find out where it was and continue from there, right out of the box.
PS: One more reason not to use windoze: just imagine getting a message from the other side of the solar system saying "Your version of windows is not genuine. Please contact..."
How funny, in Orwell's 1984 the party did also "demand rectifications" of facts. They weren't falsifying historic records, noooo sir. The party had it's thruth, and the press had to follow. If the party changed it's mind, all records had to be changed too. In fact, it has always been that way.

You're missing something. Due to the gravity disturbances of the earth and the sun, the orbit decays naturally. So it was bound to end up crashing on the moon. They had used up all but a few grams of the xenon gas, and the last maneuvres were done using the hydrazine thrusters (used for pointing and gyro offloading). They just set a favorable time and place of impact. Hmm, the "just" is maybe a bit misplaced; they did a great job.

Better: So the only risk was that someone messed up and the disabling mechanism didn't work.
(Sorry, I've been a software engineer for too long, pessimism comes with the trade I guess)

Wikipedia has a nice collection of data structures. Maybe that's what you're looking for?

Or you could take a line scanner and the rotation will generate a 360 degree image. It will require some processing to align subsequent passes.

If blocking a non-phishing site doesn't cost points, I'm sure I can come up with a filter that performs even better!

Ok, that's the second person who thinks Mars Express is a NASA probe... unbelievable!

Indeed, only a few seconds from predicted impact time, from what I've read. Now I wonder how many meters/pixel the IR image has..

I did too, last week. Might I interest you in this way funny/depressing site?

I wouldn't trust a guy who speaks newspeak and has a camera-phone, uploading pictures automatically. IMO he's thought-police..
