Embrace, extend and extinguish, is only a symptom of the real issue. The real issue is that Microsoft fails to subscribe the culture that most geeks subscribe to which is simply: Technical freedom. We want to be able to do whatever we want with technology, and we dont want anyone getting in our way. Microsoft is constantly getting in the the way of technical freedom as it tries to bully its way into being important instead of innovating its way into importance... Microsoft refuses to be in a support role and wants to be the center of the technical world regardless of technical merit. That getting in the way and self centered attitude is the reason everyone *I* know hates Microsoft.
Sir after reading your post, I have to say that that was either an extremely elaborate troll, or you have some bizarre vendetta against Dr. Buzzard. Not only did you offer several very strange non-sequiters (James Randi???), but I can find no other references which cast Dr. Buzzard in this manner.
This is stupid. Rather than go through all of that, why not just focus on getting the basics done and done right? Leave "verified" voting until after we've managed to identify who can vote and that their votes are actually counted.
You are so right... how stupid for those cryptographers to be doing research that might improve voting verification when we haven't even cured cancer yet.
Well, if the working conditions of a blue collar worker in one of the poorer countries in the world are intolerable to a blue collar worker in the richest country in the world, well then you know they must be bad.
Kind of reminds me of "The Princess and the Pea"
If you want to talk about uninformed, then lets discuss the Industrial Revolution of the USA and working conditions then.
Not every country is on the same time line. Comparing them now with us then might give you a new appreciation for work conditions in China. Somehow, though, I dont think this argument is really about work conditions in China. IMHO the China argument is shallow red herring in the labor debate.
I imagine from a certain fanboy point of view, yes - it could be considered a compliment. But from a realistic point of view, Wikipedia's coverage (outside of episode guides for The Simpsons and Star Trek) is spotty to say the least.
I think from this statment you must not have spent much time on wikipedia. While I have no idea of the coverage and quality of wikipedia's articles on Simpsons and Star Trek are, I do know that I have widened and deepened my knoledge of history, science and technology despite the holes and flaws present on wikipedia. While Wikipedia is not a primary source it does a pretty damn good job with many topics. Considering that it isnt a primary source, its pretty poor to complain about it not being a good primary source.
If you really care to complain about knowledge sources existing in subsets, open a printed encycolpedia you will find lots to complain about. If you want to complain about editing wars, well, yeah, I empathasize.
Was that supposed to be a slight ?...because to me it sounded like an immense compliment. "No entire planet 3D map" vs. "Wikipedia quality entire planet 3D map"
Why yes, I do think I will chose the latter.
Perfection will never happen because it is too expensive. Wikipedia is accurate and reliable enough to be extremely useful, and just as importantly, free. For that I am thankful.

Why would Mark Shuttleworth sponsor RedHat when he has Ubuntu to worry about? IMO the *biggest* problem with the OSS community is *lack* of focus... not too much focus.
It sounds like a great idea, but it might be easy to subvert. All I have to do is overwhelm the signal and get the target to use my (or null) one time pad, and I will be able to decrypt. Hell I can even make my one time pad *look* random, and they'd likely never notice. While I'm at it I can do it from a satellite and not have to get near their antenna.
Oh and bugs != programming errors or design flaws. Even if you elimenate all the bugs you could still have a program that blows up your cat when you try to save a file. It will just do it without any bugs getting in the way. W(h)ich is a good thing. Unless you('re) the cat.
I had a professor who used to say "There is no such thing as a bug. Take responsibility for your errors". All "bugs" *are* programming errors or design flaws unless you are actually talking about a moth that shorted out your powersupply. Im not sure how it works on your planet but on this planet saving a file which then has some unintended side effect would classify as a bug/programming-error/design flaw.
Not only is that far beyond geosync, but thats over 15% of the way to the moon... its a strange coincidence its 1000 times 62 miles which is considered the "edge" of space. Perhaps this is an error even though 62 miles whould not generally be considered "far enough"?
I for one welcome our new General (over)Lord.
You *never* know if someone has permission to distribute code, even if they sell it to you.
Its innovative...
...because its horizontal.
No.

Ok, but I read "The future of Telecom is in Whales"...
In that red/orange color and with those ears/horns, it kina makes me think it should be running bsd.
The argument is not simplistic, it just has freedom from complexity! : )

Wheat and chaff, but still wheat.

Yes.... ...of course... ...makse you "in balance" with the universe...
Are you high right now ?

As soon as someone posts the link we will : )

Yeah! Isnt is obvious, just look at the gems we find at the very top of Slashdot stories : )
Does he/she live in Europe? Its a good question.
Serious questions not meant as flamebait:
In which country do you now live?
Why does your family no longer live in China?
Sometimes that is the same thing. People who love what they do often do it best.

How about this ?
But I guess that would just time out...
