If you're curious, check out our screenshots of the original NES Super Mario Brothers 2, only released in Japan on the Nintendo Disk System, then check out our reveiw of the title to see if we think Nintendo made a wise move to pull the plug on it.

Not true, my mom accidentally rented it for me when I asked her to get SMB3 during it's initial release. She came home with a box covered in anime characters, with a typewritten label that said 'SUPER MARIO III'. The third 'I' was drawn in with Sharpie pen.

Imagine my chagrin when I powered up the cartridge and got SMB1 graphics. Imagine my rage when I learned about the poison mushroom. At age six, there is no living that down.

  10. Google Video on PSP on Google Video Not Ready for Prime Time? · · Score: 2, Informative

The instructions given for downloading/transferring videos onto PSP are simple at best, and provide no instruction on where they should be placed. As a little background, there are separate locations for original PSP video as well as the AVC format that is allowed by the 2.0 firmware (Both are MP4 format). It's not specified that these are AVC videos, and as such need the new firmware. Furthermore, they must be renamed in a correct format in order to be played on the PSP.

    -----

Anyone looking for this information, get ready:

PSP videos downloaded from Google Video *are* AVC.

    That means:

    * you need firmware 2.0 or higher

    * files are put in /MP_ROOT/100ANV01/

    * name them to follow the MAQ#####.MP4 convention

    -----

Many people keep their firmware at 1.5 in order to play homebrew software, as well as use emulators, etc. Spare me the talk about piracy issues and the like, I have a 1.5 and don't expect to have my cake and eat it, too. I just wish they'd make it clearer what format the video is in, and where it has to go.

FYI, I'm going to post this over at the Google Video group.

The huge smokescreen is made of those media conglomerates, merged to the point where they're all saying the same exact things. We still have the "reputable" sources such as Reuters and AP, which have already begun to fall into the same system.

I agree that the media and corporations have no legal right to remove any of your freedoms, and it's foolish to think so. However, it's equally foolish to believe that these giant companies are innocent, and are only there for our good.

  25. Stop the Internet on The Empires Strike Back · · Score: 2, Insightful

The last thing that media/corporations/government want is an active medium that they don't have strict control over. Conspiracies aside, these sorts of things just aren't conducive to the way they do business.

-The media sells your eyes for advertising revenue.
-The Government ensures that the "public sphere" is in tune with what they want it to focus on.
-The corporations insist that their products and actions pose no danger to your environment and well-being.

As a result, having a medium that they can only try to control is unacceptable! Passive media ensures that their goals are achieved, while society just sits back and pushes the channel button.

We're free until their teamwork pays off to do something sinful to the internet.
