  1. I think it depends. on Lyrics.ch and NMPA reach agreement · · Score: 1
If lyrics.ch uses banner ads, like they used to, I will have no problem with it. If, however, they start charging users a per-song fee just to look at lyrics (which is stupid, and which is *exactly* what the music industry would do), I will never, ever use it. Even Microsoft found out that charging people for online content just doesn't work (c.f.: Slate is once again free.)

  6. What sound card and, more importantly, driver? on Netscape Causes MP3s to Skip? · · Score: 1
I've found that, for example, the stock OSS Lite driver that comes with the kernel sources works fine with my Gravis Ultrasound Ace (piece of shit card, I know), but, on the other hand, the Ultra drivers (there's a website somewhere for them, I forget where it is) tend to skip a lot when I mess around in netscape. I think it's a driver/buffer size issue. I've noticed this with Windows machines too.

  14. Shitty remedy. on DOJ considering source-licensing punishment · · Score: 1
It seems to me that the only thing forcing Microsoft to license its source would do would be to give them the green light to "embrace and extend" as many "features" (read: products) into their operating systems as they wanted, as long as they showed others the final product. How does this preserve competition, even before you consider that a source license would probably cost quite a bit?

I'm all for punishing Microsoft, believe me, but I think this isn't really much of a punishment.

To believe otherwise, when all the info I've ever seen, both online and in trade journals and through anecdotal reports from coworkers supports my claim, would be absolutely retarded.
