You're blaming Apple for your publisher raising prices even though you admit it's the publisher setting the price?
However, it seems...To my understanding...
It seems like maybe you're hearing things kinda third-hand and sorta don't have direct knowledge of what might be going on between Apple and your publisher, doncha think?
According to this article, he was merely asked to write a paper. That hardly sounds like it was a full-time position as an advisor to the administration.
Seeing as how all you have to do to get out of jury duty is to simply ignore the summons to jury duty, then claim you never received it, not being smart enough to avoid it does not speak well for them.
Perhaps where you live. Not all court systems are as backwards as that.
Actually, you're missing experiencing the whole trial from the jury box. All we've been given here on/. is soundbites of the trial. We don't know all the evidence presented by the prosecution. We don't know all the evidence provided by the defense. All we know are little bits of info given to us by biased sources. Unless one sat in on the whole trial, slandering the jury is inappropriate.
... or you are likely to be charged with perjury for answering a question incorrectly because you forgot (or someone else remembers the situation differently. Look what happened to "Scooter" Libby
Is he starting an underfunded, ill conceived war while cutting taxes for the wealthy and destroying a budget surplus?
A quick glance at the Constitution will show you that Congress controls funding.
Ah, the old Reagan passing of the deficit buck trick. Look, it's simple: Reagan and a Democratic congress -> deficit. Bush 41 and a Democratic congress -> deficit. Clinton and Republican congress -> surplus. Bush 43 and a Republican congress -> deficit. You can try and pass the buck to congress all you want but the fact is that the last two Presidents to preside over balanced budgets were both Democrats. The last Republican to preside over a balanced budget? Ike.
Explain to me how this is a "leftist extremist" point of view.
It's simple: the poster is not an ideologue. He/she holds mostly leftist views but finds some views on the other side of the fence not so bad. It's a benefit of having an open mind.
How hard is it to program a computerized timekeeping and payroll system when the fundamental requirements change on a monthly basis...
I bet it's even worse than that. When you replace a big legacy system like this, the problem is that there are no accurate requirements. Sure, there is a requirements doc but the only real source of requirements is in the legacy code itself. The legacy system has decades of changes made to it to handle all the crazy payroll situations that crop up. Of course, those changes never made it into any kind of documentation so they never made it into the new requirements. The same thing happened when the L.A. Unified School District replaced their payroll system a few years ago. I hear they have worked out most of the bugs by now.
The sad fact is that five programmers at Lawrence Livermore Labs could have gotten this done in a year for $500k.
I liked your post except for this part. It turns out that payroll is hard (I work at a payroll company). Really hard. Really, really hard. Not $722M hard, of course, but it's much harder than people think it is.
Add to that the vinyl produced today is higher quality than back in the day because the volume being produced is so low and people are now willing to pay a premium. The crap that used to be present on an LP for a million-selling act right after you brought it home from a record store was amazing. I, for one, don't miss vinyl at all. Been there, done that, moved on to something better.
You're so indie that you don't even know that UMG is a major label group and that major labels sign commercial acts? And you just had to let everybody know, right? I guess you've scored your smug points for the day.
Not FOX. BEAVER!! Didn't you RTFA?!? Jesus Fu.... Oh, wait...
As I recall it was Al Gore who first politicized this area of science.
How? Oh, right, by being Al Gore.

I stand by my original post.

That's because, unlike the former two, the latter one is not a problem affecting anyone (sane).
You hafta tell her to make you a sammich? Sheeeit, man. My wife better have my sammich waiting for me when I get home!

"...one count of obstruction of justice; two counts of perjury; and one count of making false statements to federal investigators." Yes, a simple "I forgot". That must have been why he was convicted.
Personally, I think we should have a "holiday" from government, just as an experiment.
Experiment on yourself by taking a three-month trip to Somalia. Let us know how it turned out for you.

It's probably no coincidence that when the airbags go off lots of expensive and difficult-to-replace interior parts are destroyed.
That's because when the airbags go off, the car has been in a collision. Collisions break difficult-to-replace parts. Idiot.
The people in the van?
We had to use nukes. Once the Japanese landed their zombie marines on the beach, it was the only way to stop them.
No, without government regulation you'd be able to string your own wires and reach your customers regardless of what AT&T is doing.
And where would you be stringing your wires?
By questioning anything that happens in Iraq or Afghanistan, you are being an unpatriotic traitor to the US and should be hanged!
There's a Democrat in the White House so it's now okay to do those things.
There's a great one near San Francisco.

Claiming that the NYT is taking on the unions because they toed the White House rhetorical line is not really that strong of an argument.
So they're damned if they do, damned if they don't, as far as you're concerned. Talk about empty rhetoric...
Oh no! He's getting input from more than one side of an issue! That actually sounds fair and balanced.
