    Forget the article writeup, my first thought was California. All of the illegals working on the fields have no place to "go". Some farms might provide facilities but when the need is there they are too far away. Currently, the field becomes a toilet - be sure to wash that broccoli!!

    They have porta potties these days. I assume credit for that goes to the UFW.

    It could never happen to me while waiting at lights because I use these things called neutral gear and a handbrake, so I don't warp my brake discs or blind the driver behind with my lights.

    What planet are you living on where brake lights blind people?

    I dipped the clutch after I realised it was still accelerating after I'd moved my foot off, put it in neutral, and turned the key to 'aux' position to kill the engine without engaging the steering lock, then I steered it off the road.

    The car was already in neutral. Why bother shutting the engine off, a risky thing to do in traffic, before getting off the road?

    Actually, that payroll deduction represents only approximately 20% to 40% of the true cost.

    Depends on where you work. I've seen it be 10% of the true cost. At the company I'm working for now, it's 100%.

    I have taught myself the newer languages, but employers are looking for recent experience.

    When it was time to leave my long-time C programming job in 1999, I wanted to hop on the dot-com bubble. I had taught myself Perl but since I didn't have any on-the-job experience with it, employers didn't want me. I finally found a company that would hire me but it didn't work out and two months later I was back on the market. This time I had on-the-job Perl experience, albeit only two months' worth, and employers were falling over themselves trying to interview me. Weird but true. Get that foot in the door somehow.

    the other kind of older programmer has just given up. they know better, but they understand that bitching isn't going to solve anything and they need the health insurance. they look alot less capable then they are because they just agree with everything and try to get out the door by 5.
