I'll be glad when Disney relinquishes their rights to Studio Ghibli's material. I remember the uproar it caused among fans back when Disney first got their grubby hands on Studio Ghibli... I remember that even Miyazaki himself was opposed to the idea. He only went through with it as a favour to his long-time, publisher friend who was in financial trouble and was looking for a way out by selling out to the Mouse.
What an insult it was to Studio Ghibli to be subjugated under the Disney banner when their artistry was nothing like Disney's. Work coming out of Studio Ghibli has such tremendous quality. It has the power to change lives; this is no joke. I remember watching Porco Rosso for the first time, and damn -- I just felt good about Life after that. It was so fscking beautiful in so many ways. The characters and the interplay between them, the subtlety, the life-like ambiance throughout... their work is so tight. Disney (at least their new stuff)[0] is contrived and formulaic by comparison.
In the long run, it will be much better this way. The fansubs will become available again, and Miyazaki's work will be more widely available as a result.
We in the Free Software / Open Source communities should understand better than anyone that wide distribution of information doesn't require big corporations and advertisement. Just let the quality speak for itself.
[0] As much as I've been coming down on Disney, I have to give props to them for their older work -- that was good stuff.
A lot of people have already mentioned This American Life which is quite good. Another show that is really deep is The Other Side by Joe Frank. I don't know if any other station besides KCRW in Santa Monica, CA broadcasts this, though.
It is Good Shit(tm), though. Not only do you get these deep (and often dark) stories, but some of these shows have some of the best fscking beats. The soundtracks behind this show are really beautiful to this perl hacker's ears.
I don't personally know this guy, but this guy shows up everywhere (usenet, mailing-lists, even slashdot), and he always has something insightful to say. He's so eloquent, too.
I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet. Next to Ballard, I'd go with cbbrowne.
I second that. He could use the funds, too. According to an interview I read, he's developing Window Maker on a 100mhz Pentium. Can't VA hook him up with some hardware? He deserves it.
If you like ncftp, you might want to give lftp a look. It has a lot of the same capabilites ncftp has, but it a bit more lightweight. It's coded w/ the intent of making the user experience as responsive as possible. That means it aggressively caches directory listings (so you can ls all day w/ impunity). Stuff like that....
In Japan, there was a book that was recently published called Hop, Skip, Linux (I think) that was
written by a woman and
written for women...trying to tell them why they might want to use Linux
I recall that the cover even taunted Bill Gates (although I don't remember exactly how). If you live in Orange County, SoCal...you can drop by the Kinokuniya Bookstore in the Costa Mesa Yaohan to see if they still have it in stock.
I noticed a few people using split() instead of/[01]+/g. That's pretty cool. I'm really impressed by the guys who used dc to do it. In my younger misguided days, I would have tried to do it w/ C like some of you guys did. I was intrigued by the Visual Basic contribution -- hopefully, he has been convinced of the power of Perl and will be on his way toward rehabilitation.
All in all, this was a nice hacking exercise for everyone involved. This kind of stuff should happen more often.

I in agreement with you on the minimal thing. I too would love a copyleft shirt with just the copyleft logo on it. It's more subtle that way -- spelling out the whole GPL is just too blunt for me (not that I have anything against the GPL).
The last time something re:Copyleft was posted on Slashdot, someone from their crew said that they'd be making such a shirt, so my hopes are high on this.

It's funny that you mention the Clio, because I've been looking at that wince machine for a few weeks now, and I am in love with the hardware. It is a thing of fscking beauty--I want Linux to be ported to this thing badly.
Quite frankly, the recent proliferation of wince devices worries me. There is a lot of nice hardware being made for wince, and I feel they're potential is being wasted, because they don't have a free operating system to run. I love the StrongARM powered Jornadas and the above-mentioned Vadem Clio w/ its 64-bit? MIPS processor. Why do they have to run wince, though.
I would love for Linux (or another GPL'd OS) to keep MS in check by providing an alternative OS for these subnotebooks and PDAs that currently only run wince.
In my dreams, I see a Linux distro called Subculture Linux which specifically targets the needs of these little devices. (I don't think it would be wise to run X on these machines, and Flash ROM is extremely limited, so installations will have to be seriously optimized for size). My life would be (almost) complete if I had a Vadem Clio that ran Linux.

That's just like Utah.
The scheme version is correct. This one doesn't compute fibonacci numbers correctly.

Coy.pm would be a good start. Damian Conway is my Perl hero.
I'm surprised no one brought these up yet.
In order to configure w3m, type 'o'. There's a place to specify your editor of choice in there (among other things).
w3m does support vi-styled movement
w3m has gpm support (you can click on links). People who like to copy/paste strings may be annoyed by this, however.

Sun doesn't provide compilers (until you shell out more $$$).

I was really disturbed that it took this long for someone to take note of the cruelty and post something about it.
Poor kitty.

There are some people who want to liberate WinCE devices. Check them out at: LinuxCE.org
Fuck. I came out as Darth Vader. I don't want
want to fall to the dark side. I want to use
the light side of the Source. This is troubling.
...but at least I get Natalie Portman?

I appreciate it.

That's a good idea. Hmmmm...
