  1. It's become slow... on Happy 5th Birthday To Firefox · · Score: 1

And I don't exactly know why. Launching can take up to one minute (bug in 3.5). Typing a single character in the address bar can freeze the whole browser for 30 seconds or more... etc... I switched to Chrome as my main browser last week.

  2. Re:You gotta be kidding me. on Mandriva Fires Founder Gael Duval, Who Plans to Sue · · Score: 2, Informative

"Mandriva has every right to terminate his employment for _nearly_ any reason."

Not in France, certainly not. You'll end up in court and having to prove that the person was doing something really wrong.

  3. Re:Huh? on SWT, Swing, or AWT - Which Is Right For You? · · Score: 1

AWT is not and can't be deprecated because Swing is built on it.

About the memory hungriness, Java is like that, whether you use SWT or Swing or anything else... I just opened Limewire (swing) and Azureus (SWT)... They both use about 45 Mb...

  4. Re:NewSQL on MySQL's Response to Oracle's Moves · · Score: 1

Well is Zope a full-blown RDBMS ? No. Does it integrate a Java Virtual Machine ? No. And how does it perform ? It's completely written in Python...

The only site I used that was built with Zope was discogs.com and it had to be rewritten in PHP to meet the load and functional requirements once it started to grow...

So maybe there are reasons why Zope never took off...

The thing is, they also have bought the product Jim Starkey has been working on for most of his time during the last 6 years. Netfrastructure is a revolutionary development platform for the web, integrating a database engine, a Java virtual machine, a full text search engine, and an HTML templating engine all into a single product.

  6. Warning: Install problem on Mozilla Thunderbird Reaches 1.0 · · Score: 1

Thunderbird 1.0 RC1 trashed my Outlook 98 (replaced MAPI32.DLL with an incompatible version) installation, so beware !

  7. Superwaba on No Java JRE on Pocket PC · · Score: 2, Informative

What about Superwaba ? It's a JVM for palm and pocketpc....

  8. Re:Get that product out now! on Developing Applications with Java and UML · · Score: 1

    >>And consumer software written in Java?

what about Limewire, a popular filesharing program ?

  9. Where is Jazz ? on Reborn 1.0 And The State of Linux Audio · · Score: 2, Interesting

    I can't see Jazz listed...

There's going to be a lot of work to catch up with software such as Cubase SX or Reaktor...

Especially I saw no standard for plug-ins, like VST, for example (which already is multiplatform so could probably be ported to Linux, after all it's just API specs). I didn't see any software that gives audio and midi multitrack integration either.

Another huge problem is going to be the drivers for the many professional audio cards (none of them has drivers for Linux, as far as I know)

  10. Re:Scratching isn't simply sped up audio on Digital DJ Turntable · · Score: 1

It's true that the best tracks are still released onm vinyl and vinyl only... So I buy vinyl, record them through my soundcard, convert them to mp3s and spin using PCDJ...

I must say it works great. I don't have to carry heavy vinyl crates anymore. My vinyls stay at home and don't wear or get scratched. Mixing is easier (beatmatching is nearly automatic).

No scratching though, but I personally don't scratch (as most techno/house etc. DJs)

  11. Re:Edirol UA-5 on The State of PC Audio · · Score: 1

The EMagic EMI 2|6 does 24/96 well... you can only use one stereo output in that mode

I knew we were in trouble with that damn egg commercial, that guy.

I knew that was the government's take on drugs, we're fucked, you know. "Here's your brain." I've seen a lot of weird shit on drugs, I have never ever ever ever ever looked at an egg and thought it was a fucking brain, not once, all right? I have seen UFO's split the sky like a sheet, but I have never ever ever looked at an egg and thought it was a fucking brain, not once. I have had seven balls of light come off of a UFO, lead me onto their ship, explain to me telepathically that we are all one and there is no such thing as death, but I have never ever ever ever ever looked at an egg, and thought it was a fucking brain. Now. Maybe I wasn't getting good shit. I admit it, I see that commercial, I feel cheated. Hey, where's the stuff that makes eggs look like brains? That sounds neat. Did I quit too soon? What is that, CIA stash? You see the guy in that commercial, that guy's got a beer gut- "All right, this is it. Look up, man. This is your brain. I ain't doing this again. That's your - " The guy's drunk and doing this fucking commercial. "Here's your brain." That's an egg! That's a frying pan, that's a stove, you're an alcoholic, dude, I'm tripping right now, and I still see that is a fucking egg, all right? I see the UFO's around it, but that is a goddamn egg in the middle. There's a hobbit eating it, but, goddamn it, that hobbit is eating a fucking egg. He's on a unicorn, but that dam-up-nup-oh-hop, that's a fucking egg, yeah. How dare you have a wino tell me not to do drugs.
