It's a great school, with incredible opportunities and a good support system, I loved it there.

Besides, in the long run it doesn't matter... once I got my first job, not a single person (other than CMU grads) has cared that I'm an alum. Some of my smartest colleagues have degrees from 'lesser' institutions, and some of the dumbest people I've ever met have degrees from 'better' institutions. It's just a name on a piece of paper once you're gone.

College is what you make of it. You can go to the best school in the country and get nothing out of it if you put nothing into it. Likewise, you can go to anywhere on earth and get a great education if you're willing to work for it.

  9. Re:Credit baffles me as well on The Tightening Net: Part One · · Score: 1

The score is a bit of voodoo they play with your credit report that not only checks your payment history, but your credit use history as well.
Perhaps you never carry a balance on any of your cards; fine, but you may end up with a higher interest rate, or reduced credit limit, because by not paying interest you don't generate enough profit for the lender.
Maybe you have a few cards hanging around with zero balances; fine, but that could be seen as a risk that you might decide to run them all up at once, then default.
Only have 1 credit card that you use? Looks like you don't really know how to manage credit all that well.

These are all things that could possibly impact your credit score negatively... only you'll never know, because the FICO Score is a proprietary algorithm, and the number itself is a secret only given to lenders. (who are then discouraged for giving it out to borrowers)
Luckily for us, unless I am mistaken, that should be changing soon, as the Fair, Isaac Co. is saying that it will release the scores, and what goes into them soon.

    Feh. Bloody credit bandits.

From the text of the patent:

Audio programming is stored digitally on a non-volatile medium, such as a hard drive, or in a flash EPROM, or other solid state non-volatile memory. The device includes a hard drive, a modem for connection to a data base via an on-line service, a keyboard, a display, and an audio system.

Since they previously state a few different forms of storage media, I doubt they'll have a major problem with just saying "hard drive" in the rest of the text.
What I *do* suspect they'll have problems with is the connection... their patent seems to access an on-line database directly, not through a seperate computer or other storage device. We all know that Rio, Empeg, etc. grab the music from your home PC.
