  1. Yep if my job was playing Go or Chess all day, I'd be pretty darn worried.

Not your point, I know, but there's still an active worldwide chess community, and the best players make a quite comfortable living. Even a cell phone can easily beat them, but that hasn't mattered.

I enjoy his channel - he works hard at it and does a good job, but he's not a great analyst.

All this proves is that he's champion at this other version of the game. What a scam.

Many contests in many sports are determined by some other means than to keep playing the same rules over and over again. Penalty kicks, shootouts, tiebreakers in tennis. Even baseball is talking about doing something to avoid long extra-inning games.
Chess is still chess. The longer time control they were originally playing is not built into the game and is not even constant from championship to championship. Nor is the number of games they play.

  4. Agadmator will surpass them all in the end.

And he'll do it by reading out the moves.

    What's wrong with curry?

  7. the guy doesnt even play chess.

Yes he does. Why do you think he doesn't?

  8. Someone please tell Woody Harrelson that chess is not like bowling.

He's about 1400 strength, so he's better at chess than the vast majority of slashdotters.

  9. If we're talking about complete sentences, they ALWAYS contain a verb.

I wish I had mod points so that everyone would get the concept clearly.

I don't think that mod points are quite as powerful as you imagine.

Only because you're focusing on "barn" instead of "building with metal walls". The headline is bad but the actual question, as written, is a reasonable request for advice.

Nobody's claiming perfection. That would be silly. But lives will be saved. In what way is this a "sorry" gimmick?

  19. heating in academics is indeed part of Indian culture as my Indian friends explain to me.

People gladly believe anything somebody from another country tells them about that place, as if they have complete knowledge. Do you believe any American(or person from your country) who tells you "the truth" about America(or your country)? Depending on the person you'll get wildly different "truths".

Give it at least 20 years between competent self-driving cars being available, and for the feature to be included in the lowest-priced economy cars. Then another 15-25 years for the bulk

Maybe so. It's very difficult to really see how long it will take. Insurance will be a driving (heh) force. I think it will happen slowly for years, then seemingly all at once.

Once self-driving cars become a proven technology it won't be very long before you're not allowed to drive your own car. Without human drivers there's little need for traffic signals, stop signs, etc, as it will all be negotiated between the cars.
