Cut a backroom deal? He's the fucking President, dipshit. He literally has the power to pardon anyone, for any reason.
That's the backroom deal. He gets the pardon. He's not going to pardon himself. And why the insult? Obviously I was referring to the presidential pardoning power, so why would you think you had to both tell me about it and insult me while doing so?
I don't know if Trump will complete his term, but if I could bet I would easily go with yes.
You're nuts if you think Trump is going to prison. If and when the jig is up he will cut a backroom deal that includes a full pardon "for the good of the nation".
But clearly we're just picking nits at this point. It's a good joke. It's the kind of joke where, once heard, everybody thinks they could have and should have thought of it first.
the question is what are the odds of them being HERE. And that's a far, far smaller number.
Pretty close to zero, I'd say, for organic life. Unless there's something "magical" about thinking then clearly the computers will eventually be the dominant existence here on Earth and everywhere else, so it's the computers that will be doing any exploring. Even if they've detected us they won't be revealing themselves - they're waiting for our computers. They don't want to talk to the meat.
"Access Denied. Please verify username and password are both correct."
You are simply rephrasing the current state of things. What this author is suggesting is that if the username is not valid, tell them. Otherwise either log them in or tell them the password is incorrect.
The message should say "that password is not correct for the account [whatever you typed]." That's certainly better than "at least one of those two is wrong and I'm not telling you which."
They wouldn't have to notify every time, just once in a while, perhaps with a short summary of what's happened since the last one. If they did that people would be able to decide if they want to replace the battery. If not they could also choose to disable the notification.
Exactly. What you're going to have is worthless iOS crap "apps"
Sure, 90% of them will be crap, just like it is with 90% of everything else. But the developers who really know what they're doing will get it right. Omni, Panic, the Pixelmator brothers, etc.

You have to admit that those two spellings are very close indeed.
Nobody else says anything the same way you do in Ireland.
Do you mean like 1,3,5?
But clearly we're just picking nits at this point. It's a good joke. It's the kind of joke where, once heard, everybody thinks they could have and should have thought of it first.
I don't think it means that half the people are dumber than the mean though. Presumably there's a bunch of people on the mean.
Perhaps then he should have said that in the first place, instead of talking about Carlin's understanding of it.
Or, ya know, he was making a joke. Not all jokes are scientifically accurate.
Amen-salism is where you say a little prayer before you kill it and eat it.
Isn't that also true of orange juice?

The [whatever you typed] part is not literal. It would actually be what the user entered for the account.
Are you somehow thinking I just claimed it was perfectly safe? That's not what I said.
You are simply rephrasing the current state of things. What this author is suggesting is that if the username is not valid, tell them. Otherwise either log them in or tell them the password is incorrect.
Yes, the two things you typed mean essentially the same thing. I said something different.
No, that's not a possible state. If the user name is not valid, tell them that. Otherwise, either log them in or tell them password is incorrect.
<eyeroll>Yes, that's exactly what I was suggesting.</eyeroll>
The message should say "that password is not correct for the account [whatever you typed]." That's certainly better than "at least one of those two is wrong and I'm not telling you which."
Well, yeah. That's the point. Just tell them if the username doesn't exist. If the name is valid, tell them the password is wrong.
They wouldn't have to notify every time, just once in a while, perhaps with a short summary of what's happened since the last one. If they did that people would be able to decide if they want to replace the battery. If not they could also choose to disable the notification.
No we haven't. That's a ridiculous statement.
Sure, 90% of them will be crap, just like it is with 90% of everything else. But the developers who really know what they're doing will get it right. Omni, Panic, the Pixelmator brothers, etc.
Don't turn on the light and sit down when you pee. You'll stay closer to your sleep state.
You should read the thread again.
