Get an alarm system from ADT. They have all kinds of monitoring as 'value added' services. Things like CO, basement water sensors, temp sensors, fire sensors, smoke sensors, and intruder alert sensors. I'm sure you could build an open source LINUX solution with USB, serial, parallel, and apt-get.
Or, have a neighbor pop over and check once a day.
Actually, part of the line between Boston and NYC is owned by Metro-North and when there is congestion on the line, Metro-North has priority. I sat on an Acela outside of Stamford, CT for 2 hours and watched Metro-North trains pass me by.
I remember a print ad from Apple the showed either an early Mac (128K) or an Apple ][* that had been through a fire and still worked. Can't find it now.
I don't think Amtrak was every profitable. And by "running very few passenger trains" you mean they don't have the schedule density of Germany or France, then I'd say you're correct.
Where the US could really use high speed trains is between Boston and Washington. I know we already have the Acela, but something faster would be ideal. Now if I only had a time machine, I'd go back to the early 1800's and secure myself a swatch of land 1 mile wide all the way from Boston, through Hartford, all the way to NYC. From NYC to Washington is fairly straight already.
Connecticut is the real problem. The current train line hugs the coast and makes a lot of turns. There aren't very many areas with long straight-aways. Taking CT coastal property with eminent domain would be ridiculously expensive.
Take a step back and look at other industries. Companies such as 3M and Dupont operate in this manner as well. Plenty of side projects by Chemists have be co-opted by their companies.
Aren't you confusing HD and Digital? All HD is digital, not all digital is HD.
If it's 480p, 720p, or 1080i, it's HD. If it's 480i, it's non-HD digital.
A HD Digital tuner is expensive these days, but a regular every-day non-HD digital tuner should cost a lot less, especially since there will be more made for the TV manufacturers and component costs will drop.

And that's the simple version, it gets very very messy very quickly when band swap labels, perform live or the song writer moves between publishers.

My girlfriend's family gathers around the TV and watches this every year when it is on around New Years--in Germany. I understand it's quite popular there. The whole piece is in English and her family speaks no English, yet they laugh and laugh and laugh!
Can anyone out there tell my why Apple would send a C&D to this company? All they're doing is buying old stock of Cubes, upgrading parts of them, and reselling them. They're not claiming that they're made by Apple. They're just being a VAR in the used market.
One of my co-workers came in to work last year and proclaimed that digital cable was no better than regular cable. Everyone who had DC at the time looked at him cockeyed and were like, "WTF?!?!?"
It turns out he had it hooked up to the tv with the COAX. I told him to go back home and hook it up with the composite cables.
(I would've told him S-VIDEO BUT THERE ISN'T A F***ING S-VIDEO JACK ON THE DIGITAL CABLE BOXES THAT AT&T DISTRIBUTED IN MY AREA!) WHY??? WHY??? WHY???
Anyway, he came back the next day and thanked us profusely for showing him the way.
I know there are a few of the Motorola Digital Cable boxes in the Boston Area that have the S-Video out and they're attached to old Black and White TVs that only have RF Modulation.
A lot of Macs used to NOT ship with keyboards. That was a big bitch point of PC users. (Jeez, your Mac doesn't come with a keyboard? Apple is sucking you dry!) Then Apple started shipping every Mac with a keyboard and the PC users started razzing Mac users that since their machine came with a keyboard, they didn't have as much choice as a PC user building his own box from Chernobyl debris.
It just goes to show you that there are no winners in the Mac/PC debate, just whiners. (On both sides).
I loved Shinobi. I could make it through on 1 guy. Great game. That was in high-school. In college, my fraternity got a Shinobi arcade and it was like riding a bike.
For the same price or less you can pick up a pair of PSB Alpha Minis that sound great! PSB is a Freedom^H^H^H^H^Hrench Canadian Company that makes some great stuff.

Boston to NYC in 1 hour would kick ass.

Don't you realize that when you signed that book in the President's office you gave full permission to the school to send your grades home?
Nice office, crappy building.
I beg to differ on one point:
Coax CAN handle the Macrovision crap. DVDs just look like crap with RF Modulation
Life is Beautiful was an Italian film by Roberto Benini (sp?) that took place in a concentration camp.

Then that is not a bonus, it is deferred compensation.

While they were doing this they also forgot about simple things like book keeping and burn rate and are now out of business.
Didn't the CEO or someone very important drive to work in an old fire engine?

What I really wanted to say in my above post is that Shinobi is a great game that stays playable over the years.

Never had to use Ninja magic, either.
What about an Intranet server? Or an Web-App server for a corporate Intranet? I dare say those applications could flood the server's NIC.

(Then again, if you had such an important server with only one NIC, you're asking for trouble.)

I picked a few songs out that were over 7 minutes and they almost all were available for download individually.
Nina Simone's Sinnerman 10+ mins.
Black Sabbath's IRON MAN (Live) >7mins
Black Sabbath's WAR PIGS (Live) >7mins
Public Enemy's Bring The Noise >7mins
However, some more popular artists' tracks that are over 7 mins are not available...
U2 has a couple.
