Ordered a 75GXP (whoo, 40 gigs ATA-100!!!) in July from mwave.com for my 1.2 ghz Athlon machine, performed real nicely, especially compareed to the 3.8 gig Maxtor from my 4.5 yr old Gateway that I'd been running (no problems with it, though). Grinding, UnrecoverableErrors and massive failure and such 3 weeks later. I checked IBM's website and used their diagnostic tools.. I had to sacrifice data on the drive but it reported all errors on the drive were fixed and there seemed to be no problems. One week later, BOOMfail. Lost my entire 17 gig/home partition. This got me REALLY pissed off.
I seached through some sites, discovered what a piece of fucking shit the 75GXPs are, called multiwave, described the problem, and they said the best they could do was replace the drive since it had been over a month. I AM UNABLE TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER ITEM, said the customer service whore over and over in a scarily Android-like voice when I explained it would be in both our best interests if they didn't force a never ending chain of failures and returns on us. Had to run Mandrake on an almost 5 year old shitdrive with a 1.2 ghz Athlon and 256 megs ram for 3 weeks waiting for the replacement.
I was initially convinced to buy the drive because a friend insisted IBM made the most solid drives in the industry, but feh. I figure I could use a set of hard drive bay fans, but until then I'm gonna keep the AC vents aimed towards my box while the weather remains warm and fucking hate IBM.
