This is not an issue of freedom of speech. None of this companies filed any legal suit against the creators of this website. They simply have said they didn't want to be the soapbox this person stands on to say things.
If I own a soapbox, and I tell you to get off, you need to get off. I'm not telling you that you can't say those things, just telling you not to say them on my particular soapbox.
He's being charged with the crime of driving a car into a group of people. Nazi or not that's still a crime.
If he's guilty of killing someone, it doesn't matter much what his beliefs are.
I read somewhere that 106.5 days of the year London has rain. That means that approximately 29% of the year Brits in London are staring at rain.
This adds two useless and pointless facts about Brits on slashdot today.
Does this title really claim that Microsoft is showing loyalty to Linux?
Microsoft is battling for cloud dominance just like every cloud vendor. They are joining because it makes business sense, not to show any loyalty to anything Linux related. It's quite a jump to assume that Microsoft is pledging loyalty to a competing product simply by making a business move.
The cake is a lie.
This is merely massaging statistics to get useful information. It's not just economists that do this. Everyone does this. Corporate Execs, Advertisers, Publishers. The entire business world is based on numbers that attempt to predict patterns and show what needs more focus and what doesn't. It doesn't constitute a lie.
It would be fun if it could handle BASIC programming like the 2600 did. Even in it's limited form it was fun to play with as a kid. Might give it that truly nostalgic feel.
Notice the title says "Blame". I think that is the perfect word. Rather than accepting responsibility, they are blaming technology. If an escape happens it's the people securing the facilities fault, whether they use a pitchfork or a drone.
That assumes that there are only two variables in the equation, but the reality is that the equation is infinitely complex.
And that is what you learn in introductory economics course also. Create every equation with two variables, Supply and Demand, and it makes for a much easier study.
All this negative information about Linux is totally going to kill it as the desktop choice for a majority of users. There goes 2017 as a year of the Linux desktop.
So a large company, which has relied on Windows is now using the most up to date version.
I'm sure there are many small companies out there that are 100% on Windows 10. 100% of a company on Windows 10 is a stat too. It also is a useless stat.
A vulnerability is found, update your system.
How is that news? That should just be common practice. When security updates are released for your OS, update it. This is not news. Vulnerabilities are found often in all OSes. And updates are released.
Seems to me like the article is attempting to call out Ubuntu rather that actually inform and educate.
I don't believe that you can blame Linux or Windows when updating and patching your systems avoids this type of thing. Again, this was an attack on systems that were not updated properly.
If known vulnerabilities are out there and you are not updating your system. The OS developer has done their job and patched the security hole. You have not done your job in updating your systems. There is no excuse for a web hosting company not updating systems when they have huge amounts of public facing IP addresses.
I don't believe either of these articles do a great job at providing the facts we need. Obviously structural integrity is a major concern here, but where is the information on the testing? In a scarier question, has any testing been done?
We have two sides of this issue. One is the industry properly testing and validating that these parts of safe and effective to use. The other is regulation and is it going to lag behind. If proper testing is done and regulation keeps this from coming to the market then we are in a bit of a fear mongering mode by articles like these.
Please do not take this post for any sort of affirmation of my like or dislike of the airline industry . You will never see me on a place under my own free will any time soon, with or without 3d printer parts.
It is quite clear that The Pirate Bay is violating copyright laws. The debate should be whether or not the laws are correct or not. I take neither side in this battle publicly. I don't think the fact they are providing copyright software is up for debate though.
Why doesn't Hollywood focus on putting out a better product then worrying about it's distribution methods. While big movies still make a large amount of money the quality of most films is just not there.
I will happily spend money on entertainment I find enjoyable, whether it be music, movies or TV. I would go to the theater or rent a movie for $50 that sucks anyway.
What makes it Essential? Edge to Edge screen, already been done. No Logo? Is that really a feature. Hmm..O It's "cool" and it cost a lot! That's it. Sorry, too late. "Cool and Expensive" market is already completely ruled by Apple.
So now laptops are just as bad as mobile phones. No removable battery for easy reset/replacement, no upgradable parts.
We now use devices for a year so and toss them.
This might sound like a "get off my lawn" comment, but please leave my hardware alone. Let me decide how much memory I need or what parts can be replaced or upgraded rather than buying a new device.

Wasn't there something called Slashdot Beta with a very bad UI also? I
still don't care today.

AMD: The Quality Goes In Before the Name Goes On.
See earlier comment about how AMD has a very similar bug.
Maybe I'm missing it, but has Tesla perfected it's auto business? Should it be branching out already?

This is what happens when a bunch of smart chess players pretend to be mathematicians and programmers

I'll be impressed when a computer wins Hungry Hippos, that game is obviously rigged towards anyone younger than 7. My kid beats me in it all the time.
