FreeBSD license is superior to Linux License, so disagree with it all you want. But when you learn to code, Try and make a living doing open source project.
I am sorry, but it is not going to make software portable across Linux or BSD. These simply depend on the coders. I detest any sort of new packages, so.deb and dkpg can go to hell. If you have used FreeBSD ports, you will understand what I mean, nothing can beat it. I don't like this idea at all, I have always had one version of FreeBSD that always worked. Now, I am going to have a version that is totally different. I hate this, I think Debian should just stick with freaking Linux and leave BSD alone.
This is great, I hope the greatness of it doesn't end in slashdot tho. Hopefully people will be able to make time and contribute a few lines of code. The worst thing that can happen to an open source project is when people take the pain to open up, and no one contributes nothing. HOpe this will not be the case.
This is a little bit complicated, but not that complicated that a 5 years old cannot get the gist of it. Software are tools, and like all tools, they sometimes can be used for good or evil. For example, lets look at a gun? Who is responsible the maker or the one who used it to commit a crime? It depends, If the maker of the gun allowed the gun to be obtained by anyone, as far as ethics go he is partially responsible. The same applies with softwares.
In the software world, take a look at BackOrifce. The guys who developed are partially responsible for all the wrong things that is done with it. I am not against them for releasing it or sharing the information, so please don't attack me. Likewise, the users who used backorfice are responsbile.
Now, lets take a look at the latest bind overflow exploit that was released not so long ago. The developers of this code are not responsbile, The exploit was crippled that anyone who has not written or read about bufferoverflows could not use it. Now, if I was to take this exploit and uncripple it, then use it. Then I am to be blamed, not the developers.
So, as you can see, It depends on why/how the software was released and deployed.
I think it is stupid and a waste of time and money to restore this. Regardless of if it runs or not, its purpose is simply to be a muesum piece. The vast majority of the people out there, just want to see the beast, and not in action. If people will like to see it in action, an emulator will be better. Besides, I doubt you get to see on the console and play with it, So why waste the time and money? When I see the Altair, I just like to see it, I don't care if it runs, I don't have time to fiddle with those buttons, I have real work to do, not play with an antique that is taking me no where. But then again, I digress, I just restored a sun/30, heh, but at least it runs Unix! (NetBSD/OpenBSD), and is still useable.:-)

Is this bad? Yes. I do not care what anyone say, people can say that forking is not bad and so on, but it is very easy to learn from history. Look at the BSD's. Imagine if there was just only one BSD instead of 1000 of them... If Turbo Linux forks, chances are that other companies that want money will add a thing or two to the kernel, and fork off a new Linux based set. Then they will proceed to tell you that their own is better. Before you know, Linux is fighting Linux. The Linux community needs to stick together, the various distrubtion sets is alarming already. I mean, if TurboLinux forks off a new kernel base, will other vendors take turbolinux modify it and soon, have various distribtutions of Turbo Linux. Hrm, so what if this happens, and in a few years we have 5 different Linux bases, each with 10 different distribtution. Will redhat then have, redhat linux, redhat turbolinux, and such? Another reason this is horrible is because SCO is involved, everyone here should remember how SCO has been spreading FUD about Linux. Is this a company we can trust? I think not! This is bad
For those wondering if digital cameras have such powers, yes they do. How do you think they save your image, and compress them? with a 1mhz cpu?, How do you think the process sounds, and the colour images on the display? 1mhz cpu? Another thing to notice is that the author of this emulator has his account on AOL. Cool eh? Hope those of you who judge people because of the accounts they use learn a lesson.
Yes this is cool. But with doom, this can pose a problem. Will the world accept it? Tomorrow when a psycho goes out and shoots people, They will blame it on intese training of killing processes with their computer. Now, we will have kids learning to use guns and such. No, don't get me wrong. I have no problem with that, but that is what the media, and parents will be saying. Nevertheless this is only a step to 3d interface.

I have friends all over the world, thanks to the internet, and I must agree with his remark about these third world countries being more advanced than us. You may disagree, but what do I care of what you think? when I know what I know? In USA today, in classrooms we get to use PIII500mhz with 256mb of ram, and 20inch montior with windows. In third world countries we are broke, and get to use 386dx 40mhz with 16mb ram and 100mb drive. Because of the low quality of the machines, we try to make up for what we don't have, when we code, we don't use visual basic because it will be bloated, we run other better OS to utilize the hardware best, ie bsd/linux not windows. In USA, everyone gets spoiled with fine hardware and crap. I have had the pleasure of talking to many youngsters, (11-13) in third world europe countries who code in assembly languages and run unix os. I should transfer to a finland for school, I will get a better education and for cheaper money, when I am done with my BS, just come back to the states, spend a year get a Master, and I am ready to roll.
If you do not know who he is, then you should grab a huge hammer and slam your computer into tiny bits. I would prefer that, but if you don't like that idea, go ask altavista. Next you will be asking who is Hemos or Commandertaco.

If you need a DVORAK keyboard, simply remap. It is very true what they save about dvorak. I use to type 82wpm when I used qwerty, but now my speed is at 147wpm with Dvorak, the only problem is that it is not standard. It is easy to build a device that you plug a keyboard to, this will convert qwerty input to dvorak input, this is useful in environments where you cannot remap the keyboard, I am too lazy to look for the link where I found the device, search the web.
