But hey, maybe they could take in one point from this here, echochamber...
I have good karma on slashdot, and because of this, I have the choice to disable ads. Maybe twitter could employ some sort of "karma" like slashdot did, and use it to enable or disable certain aspects of twitter.
Zuckerberg comes from a world where all is fair, as long as you have millions of people giving you free info about their lives that others will pay you for. Being that there are millions of those people on this planet, I think we were bound to produce a Zuckerberg eventually.
Sometimes I even think that his name is a hoax, "Zuckerberg". 'Zucker' as in 'sucker' and 'berg' as in mountain. As in 'A Mountain of Suckers" - which is what he must view The People as.
US Bonds are literally the basis for our fiat currency. You may want to invest a little bit of time learning about how the monetary system works, it's actually interesting. Here is a good video that explains it in just over 21 minutes.
In 2016, state and local governments spent $175 billion, or 6 percent of direct general spending, on highways and roads. Just because our government spends a lot of money on things other than roads, doesn't mean that they don't spend a lot on roads.
Hacking people over the phone is a lot easier than it should be. Every time I call an ISP for one of my clients, they ask me my name. then, "Oh sorry sir, your name is not in our records. I'd need to speak with the person listed as their manager. Then I just ask if the manager's name is whoever the manager really is. They tell me yes. Then I put them on the phone (I hand them the phone that's got the ISP on it already). The manager tells the ISP, "Yes, put BringsApples on the list of admins." Then I'm an admin. But I always wonder wtf this illusion of security means for all of the real people out there.
If you want your employees to live at the office, I guess so. But if you want to hire people that have their own house elsewhere, then you'll need a road from their house to the office.
If you want electricity and water/sewer to your office, then you'll need pipes under ground delivering such.
Sure, you could build a huge water-tower and generators at the office, but then you just changed your business model pretty drastically, and now you have all sorts of internal issues that were previously dealt with externally.
You can't take credit for reading an article that applies to a discussion here, and applying what you read in that article to this discussion? Well, I'm still glad that it happened, whoever did it.;)
Closest I've been to Seattle is Puyallup. But even there, I felt like there was no expectation that the city would ever cut the grass, there were a shit-ton of homeless people that all looked strung out on heroin. This was back in like 2006. I'm from Alabama and I thought the place looked like a shit-hole of losers.
But then I met the clients that I'd gone out to work for, and they showed me a much nicer side to things. I wanna say they took me to eat at a place named The Rock Dock? It overlooked the water where big ships came in, and across the waterway, were all of the houses of the super-duper rich folks, most of whom started Microsoft. So odd that in most all societies, surrounding a very rich area, is a very poor area.
I mean, they simply tested "Big Brother is Watching" and "The Masons were here". Don't ask why they were testing some shit like that, just know that it was a test.
They fucked it up when they called it "Dread Pirate Roberts II". It was supposed to stay Dread Pirate Roberts, from person to person.
Also, people can still buy drugs, despite the fact that there are thousands of drug dealers in prison already. There are drugs that people can legally purchase, made by drug dealers that know how to bribe, I mean lobby, the government. In states where marijuana has been made legal for recreational use, no one selling marijuana is considered a drug dealer.
The drug dealers are all made up. The drugs are all made up. The whole thing is a sham. ARRRRRG!
Not forgetting, but that comes later, after he's been handed over. He is accused of terrorism after all (the statute of limitations on the CFAA has already run out, but apparently terrorism accusations can extend that)
You're good at reading between the lines. Thank you.
Do you have any evidence -- at all -- that these devices scan for something other than the configured hotword?
Note that since the companies that make them are publicly-traded, there's a legally-enforceable expectation that when those companies say that the devices don't search for any other phrases, they're telling the truth. If anyone could prove that they weren't it would get the companies in significant trouble with the FTC and SEC. This is especially true for Google, which is operating under the terms of an FTC consent decree put into effect after the Google Buzz incident.
Have you not seen this? In today's world, just because The Big Company doesn't tell you about a thing that their product does, doesn't mean that they told you that it doesn't do that. And that's the logic that we're dealing with. The mentality that you perceive from Silicon Valley seems outdated.
"thdead"
With the ultimate prize being the ability to disable Twitter completely?
You're good at reading between the lines. Thank you.
Damn I wish I had posted that as AC, so I could now mod you up.

We disagree on this, my friend, but I respect your views.
However, about the war-driving by google, you're correct, people shouldn't be broadcasting their SSID.

Ahhh, I guess it's a 'hive-mentality' that doesn't seem to play much of a role in the modern world. ...which is why it's so successful.
Yeah, I have no idea how that got modded 'Funny'. It's exactly not funny.

So many people are probably thinking this same thing right now...
If 'The Dread Pirate Roberts' was caught, then why does his mischief continue? ...Do you understand the point?

...People all over the world are continuously giving their data away to FaceBook for free.
Meh. That was clearly a simple mistake. They added the mic because they intended to use it later, then failed to include it in the spec sheet.
You sound sure of that. Any reason why? Maybe you could show me another example of this same sort of thing happening.
I have another example to share why it is that I think this way. Maybe their activity doesn't alarm you, and that's fine.
It's basically impossible to live an ethical life these days because the world is too integrated and interconnected.
Ethics is, as ethics does. Seems to me like being integrated and connected would be good for ethics.
me boycotting KFC and TacoBell, and any other Pepsi owned chains over this won't help
No, that won't help, because Pepsi no longer owns any of that. So no need! :D
However, the whole illegal uploading part seems, well...... extraordinarily draconian.
