Honestly I feel like Linux users already have dealt with shit for so many years that we're all quite thick-skinned when it comes to things not working smoothly. And when there's some shit situation where things don't work, a typical Linux user will simply carry on in another way.
You're 100% correct, all of it. But so what? What can you do about people making a list of qualities that they conclude that you have? Like you said, browser fingerprints exist, and despite the fact that I don't facebook, I do see ads based on what I browsed earlier. But so what? I only see ads at work, where I'm forced to use chrome. At home I use firefox, and I literally never see any ads at all, not even within youtube, or it's videos. So unless I'm at work, I don't see ads - I can't understand why I should care about that at all though.
The thing that I don't want, would be a situation where a con-artist got a hold of my data. But any situation like this would be extremely rare, and it's extremely hard to con someone like me, who's got very little. If you have a lot to lose to a con-artist, then yeah, this whole tracker thing is worrisome.
If you don't do social media, then how is it that you can't escape them? I understand that you're probably referenced somewhere on FB, I know I am too (I also don't use it), but so what? If I'm not wrapped up in it, how does it affect me?
The whole thing that Facebook is doing is simply collecting money from people that want your data. These companies that want said data, have no way to confirm that it's legit. Facebook slides by, on the fact that no one knows what they have, or how they get it. If Facebook approached me and said "We suspect that a guy named Tim Kroft wants to kill you, judging by his posts. It's important that you seek protection. We can provide you with protection for a small fee." What are my choices for confirming any of that, even that Tim Kroft is a real person?
I run only Linux at home. I have an iPhone. I don't go to appleid.apple.com. I manage my apple ID on my phone. I think a lot of folks do this. I said 25 users will be affected, but maybe it's actually less.
It's my understanding that the person that manages the channel can moderate comments. Is this not the case? If not, I know that comments can be disabled.
Whether or not Nazism is good or bad (for the record, I'm against it) isn't my point. My point is that FaceBook builds a narrative on it's users, and then sells that narrative to anyone that'll pay. For all I know, FaceBook has multiple narratives for each user, and sells that user's data to multiple ad companies, based on what they're willing to buy.
Sorta like how a used car saleman will (try to) sell you an El Camino. "You need a truck? Oh boy do I have the El Camino for you." Or, "You need a car? Oh boy do I have the El Camino for you."
I should have asked, "Who determines what a "clear hateful idea or narrative" is? Thank you for correcting me.
But the point is still the same: Facebook builds a narrative (no matter what sort of ideas stated by the user) on it's user(s), then sells that narrative to anyone that will pay.
Every time I see "this guy" post, I feel like it's not a single person, but rather an assumed personality that is commonly taken, here on slashdot, by those with pent up anger.
Of course, if I'm wrong, and it is a guy, then I'll probably get shouted at too, about how I'm a lying nazi faggot plastic-eating pedophile satan-worshiping {trump-supporter|obama-supporter} conspiracy-theorist that plays the trumpet to loud at night.
But I'll just have that guy know: His hosts file kicks ass.
...what percentage of French people are happy, or even care, about this. Or is this just another of the strange things that get to happen in today's world?
Who knows. But here's a list of other odd sports that exist.
I think America needs a dome. Fuck other countries. Fuck Nature (and it's global warming lies). All we need is that dome, and 99.99% of the people working hard to keep it running normal for the elite 0.01%. Then things will be perfect.
I didn't read that part. Yes, you're correct. Thank you!
So with this in mind, I don't see how this company will be successful. People will certainly go in on tickets together (if your guy isn't there, I'll go, if my guy isn't there, you'll go), thus causing less people to buy tickets.
Because I think that if AI chose the winner, it'd choose AI as the winner, and if humans choose the winner, then they'll choose the human as the winner. Not because of preference, but because humans will understand humans clearly, and AI will understand AI clearly.
There's no way that pill costs $500 to manufacture. The problem is that capitalism shouldn't be able to creep into life-support systems.
Ha, great idea. ok, 1. Anyone others?

In the end, this will probably affect 25 people. Making sure things work with Linux is probably a job given to interns.

And here we will be, soon.

a clear hateful idea or narrative can be amplified to reach more people, is exactly what they said they don't want to do
Who determines what a "clear hateful idea" is? Oh, I see what they did there.

Dear slashdot, please include the mod option "Right. Fucking. On." please. It applies here. Thanks.
We're almost forced to ask, "What language is the humans' cerebral cortex written in?"
Man, these guys at Goldman Sachs are really stuck between a rock and a hard place.
On one hand, they have their investors to consider.
But on the other hand, they have their investors to consider.
I've read this a few times, and I can only conclude that you're explaining my joke to me.

Gambling = betting on yourself to win and get extra money
Insurance = betting on yourself to lose, and not have to pay extra money.
Rich = important.
This guy could tell you all about it.
I guess you're a woman. Most women aren't good at sensing humor. The men around here say, "WOOOSH!" a lot.
Men have been using Tinder to showcase their meat for years now.
I never understood the fascination with numbers. They're just measurements from zero.
