  1. A Moral Issue on Family Sues Apple For Not Making Thing It Patented (nymag.com) · · Score: 1

From my point of view the evil doer must be punished more than those who have lesser involvements in the crime. Apple should make it impossible to use these products in a running car. However the driver who chose to use the product while driving is the major culprit. So let's say we put him in prison for 20 years. How much income will he lose? In fact, if he is well invested he might have substantial earning while in prison. How much must the world bend to compensate for the idiots among us?

  2. Many people in white collar jobs or professions do not yet realize that automation may actually replace them faster than manual trades are reduced to near zero human employees. Those that are aware generally think this massive displacement is decades away. Meanwhile real solutions are not put into conversation as politicians dare not admit the massive changes that must take place and therefore we are not preparing and the suffering will be amplified.

  3. How About Just Growing Organs on Self-Driving Cars Will Make Organ Shortages Even Worse (slate.com) · · Score: 1

Apparently there is some progress in growing new organs in the test tube so to speak. Or perhaps we could cause animals to grow organs that are suited for humans. I have a cow valve that replaced the aortic valve in my heart. It works great and requires no anti-rejection or other medications. The limit on how long these valves will last is not established but i am seven years into mine and it is still perfect. The heart doctors seem to speculate that these valves might last for twenty years.

If the guy just wanted sex I suppose all is fair. After all the girls that go for this want to be sexually very liberal anyway. The money part, to me, is where the fraud can take place. If the guy had simply set up shop and told the girls that he wants to interview them and snap pics and send them out in hope of getting work and not charged money he could have still had a lot of sex. But taking money while claiming to be connected to studios puts an opening for the law to punish him. After all, sex is normally about deception. That is why lipstick, cosmetics, pop up bras and the like exist. The clear intention is for a girl to look more sexy than she actually is and that is every bit as deceptive as the guy saying he could get girls expensive modeling work.

  5. It is beyond my capacity to grasp that anyone can be such a coward or married to an idiotic philosophy that they simply can not face truth. We are, right now, in huge trouble due to the global warming that has already occurred and we know full well that it is going to get much worse. Our weather is destroying our ability to raise crops and livestock, our oceans are almost lifeless and we are being contaminated with all kinds of poisons that wreck health and rob people of their lives. Many of these nay sayers can accept the fact that termites have a big influence on environment and that algae also is a big player, yet somehow they fail to be able to face off against the fact that humans are having massive impacts on every facet of nature including temperatures in our air and in our waters. People fear that they, or their lifestyle, will be lessened, displaced or eliminated. Somehow that fear causes them to become a mob of brain dead fools. That in turn assures that their lives and lifestyles will fall even faster and deeper.

  6. The wealth gap is to large and no matter how one sees it it is dangerous. I once lived in an area that was well off but bordered a ghetto. I warned people that between 12/15 and Christmas day they had best not be out and about. A certain pre Christmas rage would build up in the poor area and armed robberies and the like would jump up too much in that two week period. Simply shopping or sitting in a restaurant or bar, or even being tied up in traffic became an opportunity for being a crime victim. Sometimes some horrible racist incident would occur and people would fear riots. If it happened on a Monday or Tuesday one could predict that the troubles would break out on Friday or Saturday as pay checks would enable alcohol to be purchased and the weekend would be the time to riot. Certain things are predictable and when the rich are too rich and the poor are too poor violence tends to break out.

  7. Legal Nightmare on Qualcomm Fined $865 Million By South Korean Antitrust Regulator (zdnet.com) · · Score: 2

This case will open up all kinds of issues. Can a business set prices according to what a potential customer can pay? Car mechanics have often charges more for working on expensive cars than for working on more common cars. Even cops often let working stiffs slide a bit on traffic tickets and are harsher on flashy cars. A young, single man in a shiny new Corvette is far more likely to get tickets than a mom and pop with a station wagon and two kids in the back seat. So how is it that we can disallow a business from charging a higher price from another business, selling an unusually expensive cell phone?

  8. I made note of the notion that a person should receive legal mercy due to being drunk or on drugs. Really a teen is thus confessing to two crimes rather than one. I was stoned when i killed that guy means you have a drug crime as well as the murder. Too me that means the penalty should be more severe than if the person had not been on dope or alcohol.

  9. It Is a real Issue on How Social Isolation Is Killing Us (nymag.com) · · Score: 1

One reason that country folk attend church so regularly is that they are too isolated when they own larger plots of land than people do in the cities. Their instincts tell them the importance of associating with others. Can you imagine a dolphin or a chimp that did not socialize with others of its species?

  10. An Old Parable on NIST Asks Public For Help With Quantum-Proof Cryptography (securityledger.com) · · Score: 1

Can God create a rock so heavy that He can not lift it? OK so quantum computers can solve problems that appear to us to be of infinite complexity. So could a quantum computer be programmed to create a password of an even more complex infinity ? I still like the idea of a ladder of passwords being created such that every rung of the ladder need be answered in frequent, quick steps. That way even a quantum computer could not solve the password fast enough and the first rung of the ladder would change every time it was addressed. Think of it like the spokes on a bicycle wheel that is in fast rotation and you have to enter on the moment that a certain spoke comes to a mark and then rapidly supply the passwords before the next spoke arrives in position. Only when each spoke is decoded at the proper, small instant, can the site be opened. Making it even more complex, each spoke may have a code that defines which of the other spokes is opened such as every fifth spoke. But after landing on the fifth spoke three times it lands on another spoke that now demands every twelth spoke be opened in order of appearance. I think such a complex system could work to a degree that no quantum computer could run long enough to solve the password. Keep in mind that that bicycle wheel could have a very large number of spokes.

I do understand that very high speed transport can be created in tubes. I'm not so certain that it is such a great idea. I do have hope that autonomous cars can actually eliminate a great deal of traffic congestion. For example, imagine a driverless, grocery delivery vehicle that carries groceries to four homes. Normally we would see four cars making round trips to the store. But the store can deliver to four homes with only one vehicle. A drug store could deliver to quite a few homes with one autonomous vehicle. Pizza delivery is an issue as the cost of the driver is a factor. But with an electric, autonomous pizza delivery system the cost of the driver vanishes and the need to buy gasoline also vanishes. I suppose one could even have a pizza cooking system on board as well. The idea being that the vehicle could deliver to several homes in one run rather than having numerous people driving to pick up their dinner. It does seem to me that machinery that could get the poisonous materials out of rivers and streams would be a better way to go than just putting more tubes in the earth. Many states have big trouble with toxins in the river bottoms and so far there is no efficient or reasonable way to fix that issue.

  14. Love Killer Robots on The UN Will Consider Banning Killer Robots (hrw.org) · · Score: 1

The US would be at too great a disadvantage if we do not lead the world in combat robots. The US has a tiny population compared to nations such as China or India. That means that in an all out war we would have to use nuclear weapons to survive. We simply can not field anywhere near enough human soldiers. And we also can not afford masses of human soldiers. Deaths and disabilities cost us for many decades after a war ends. We already have drones fighting for us and getting the human out of the link will soon make robotic aircraft far superior to human pilots. I see no reason why a well designed robot warrior would harm more innocents than traditional modes of combat. Our Navy is building automated war ships. We will not be putting as many sailors, airmen or ground forces in harms way. And there are some legitimate uses for automated weapons in civilian life as well. The drive by shooting problem is quite severe in some cities. Imagine a robotic warrior in a tower that would open fire on any car that has bullets being fired out the window. Police departments could also drop by air or from vehicles warriors that would pin down a wooded area and prevent any human movement or escape, thus making surrender the only choice for criminals. Also breaching barricaded positions held by criminals is a legitimate use of automated force. How many lives would be saved if that system was quickly available in ever large town and city?

Almost all of our serious issues are simply due to excessive reproduction. And again, forced birth control is not a topic that any politician dare mention. Further, the way our economic systems work if population does not grow poverty increases.

  16. Fast Food At First on Robots Are Already Replacing Fast-Food Workers (recode.net) · · Score: 1

Yes the fast food industry will automate rather quickly eliminating millions of jobs. Fancier joints will be slower to automate and have to hide a great deal of their automation from patrons who pay big bucks for food. And please understand that it can not be stopped. Why would we want to pay more for fast food than other nations who automate sooner will charge? This is rather like Trump claiming he would put a 35% tax on American companies that move to Mexico and want to sell their products in the US. The buyers would be the ones paying that extra 35%. And domestic factories would jack up their car prices as the buyers would have less options. The hourly wage for human workers is now not a factor. If American robots can produce better and faster than Chinese robots we will make a lot of money exporting goods. But if their robots are better than ours then we will suffer badly. The real problem is funding for our colleges and school systems. If we do not produce superior students we are lost. And right now we simply do not produce superior students. Budget cutting has likely killed America.

  17. There are many people who have been let down by government so severely that they have no trust or sense of community with anyone felt to represent government. lifting up the most deprived citizens would go a long way towards government being accepted by the people. We now know that many innocent people have been and are now locked in jails and prisons. Other people are beaten down or gunned down for little or no reason. Making friends after such things occur is not likely to ever occur. I have seen cops who abused and baited people trying to get them to commit an incident in which they could make an arrest. I am aware that in some cases the cops feel that they will be called back to the scene again and make an arrest according to that prophecy. But showing hate and rudeness to a person rarely will accomplish anything but creating a criminal.

As simply stated almost any medical procedure, or even sanitation and inoculation all have an effect of weakening the species by allowing those with negative tendencies to survive.
