  2. Mathematics, physics and chemistry all involve learning a formal language which is far removed from normal languages . However for English language users a knowledge of French, German and Spanish as well as Latin do have great value as it helps the user have a better grasp of the English language. Most Americans have a poor grasp of their own language and we need to push to make that less of a problem.

It is not remotely possible that any other nation can do anything better than we do. Get a clue folks. We have squirrels in the White House and a super corrupt right wing that is brought and paid for by coal and oil industries. So just give them that idiotic grin when they declare "Well, I'm not a climate scientist.".

There is wonderful progress on generating energy with less climate disruption yet we are still going to sink ever lower as every single person we add to our national or world population amplifies global warming and all forms of pollution. Every new home and new road and new farm is a blow struck against nature. Yet our politicians are unable to talk about restricting births or rolling back developed areas into natural areas.

  9. Any person on US soil or in custody of the US has full constitutional protections and if CHUMP can't live with that maybe he should consider hanging himself.

His support by the republican party is dwindling. Further the courts do have the power to order arrests for such things as contempt of court. Therefore any agent of the government could be arrested for failure to follow a court order. Border guards who decide to ignore court orders could be jailed. As to a supreme court nomination if CHUMP gets one in the chief justice might just assign him to clerical duties rather than let him sit on any cases at all. The court can also refuse to hear any cases it does not like. The effect could easily be to reject hearing any case that might benefit the right wing loonies. The people in our nation are now in limited rebellion as are people all over the world when it comes to CHUMP. Do not think for a second that people in public positions can not protest in their own unique ways. One way or another CHUMP will be removed from office. People can pretty much hold to the law and still turn his fanny upside down and boot him out the door.

Can the public trust the government at all would be the right question to ask. Frankly we can not. And with the hair bag we now have as president we can have no trust at all. The man lies constantly and is so dumb that he gets caught in his own lies. The Molester In Chief adds a whole new dimension to government lies and corruption. The first thing to be done is to release all materials concerning the JFK, Bobby Kennedy and MLK murders. Very few Americans feel that those murders were simply caused by the fickle finger of fate.

  16. Chowder Headed Scientists on Elite Scientists Have Told the Pentagon That AI Won't Threaten Humanity (vice.com) · · Score: 1

There simply is no branch of science that deals with this type of question. For example if almost all human employment ends due to computers and automation the social upheaval could be a huge threat to human existence as it would likely cause wars that would get out of hand. It is not as if the only way AI can hurt us is by deliberately turning upon us. The incidental effects could be quite deadly. I am all for AI but I think that almost all people do not quite get what the probable potential really is. Imagine a small nation building a million drones that each carry and deploy one grenade. A tiny and backward nation could suddenly be a real threat to a much stronger nation. Imagine what N. Korea could do with a horde of such drones attacking S. Korea or an angry Arab nation targeting Israel with the same mode of attack. The government of Israel could see the wisdom of stock piles of such drones kept ready to deploy in large numbers. The economies of nations could easily be altered just by the need to have more drones than a potential enemy. And that is only one area that AI could touch.

  18. Yet we know that the best students normally come from the most costly homes. The children of the rich are exposed to far more advantageous items and experiences from toys to tutors to travel and there is also an expectation that a child from rich parents will be driven to compete with his family's income history. At the very least that means that children from normal families will have to be unusually diligent and dedicated to achieving academic superiority. That is fairly rare. Although I do maintain that a true scholar is almost unstoppable. From time to time we see geniuses blooming from wretched schools and miserable backgrounds. Einstein was sort of like that. Imagine the attitude in Germany that he had to live with before he immigrated to the US. Jews were hated and mistrusted in his era.

Drones that were a bit larger could drop tiny devices that would put a bit of something like cobra venom on any enemy below. Since a tear drop will do one drone could drop many thousands of such weapons. It would not matter if it hit a hand, a foot or a shoulder. That soldier would be dead meat.

Ideally safety glass would become granular and harmless when shattered.
