I know of a situation in which two cops started pulling over people leaving a certain bar near closing time and almost every car pulled over had a drunk driver. The cops were ordered to stop doing that as it cut down sales at the bar and the city wanted the taxes generated by that bar as it was the only bar in the town. The same is already being mentioned in the case of self driving cars. Cars that can not break traffic laws will bankrupt almost every police department in the nation as law enforcement makes its living over traffic fines. No violations = no police departments. That translates into the system must have violators and will do what it takes to make certain that people break laws.
In S. Florida being a rock star referred to girls who were rock cocaine addicts. They were the type who were so deluded and burned out that they thought they were something special rather than skanks. It also made note of the type of neural devastation in coke addicts that causes them to not be steady on their feet such that they dance around a bit while trying to stand still. That drug is such a horror story that my feeling is that an automatic death penalty should apply on the first offence of either using, possessing or dealing in that junk. Many of watched people die in the most humiliating ways due to the effects of coke upon users. The reason that cures do not work is that a coke addict will create more coke addicts before their addiction ends. One addict can easily create several new addicts and some will create dozens. The treat and release game simply is a failure.

That means sending the population to other states, shutting down businesses and industries and getting rid of the effects of human activity.
The real game is that the officials in California know that no good solution is in sight. Everybody hopes that new science and new technology will enable the madness to continue to exist. And sometimes that nick of time development actually does act to extend the status quo. However betting that science can stay one step ahead of catastrophe is a seriously stupid bet. Designing a society where everything is interwoven and interdependent assures catastrophic failure. Something as minor as a loss of the power grid could create mayhem and chaos and massive loss of life in a state like California. Since power grids are spread out it is all too easy for almost anything to knock out a grid and with bad luck the entire grid may be very heavily damaged, A solar flare, a large meteor, a sizable earthquake, or a band of terror lunatics could devolve California into total failure and chaos with an economic shock that might actually take down the world economy.
The chances of anyone doing anything positive about the situation approach zero.
Ok so we have had computer programs designed to evolve against a standard for well over a decade. So far these devices are like drones with human operators but we should see battle bots who have only automated control built in with no humans steering the devices. Perhaps automated battle bots would be a quite measurable method of advancing robotic abilities.
I have been employed in companies that had numerous employees who did not expect to put forth effort or thought in their work. Often they show some concern for the appearance of their task but could care less about the flow of work or have any expectations about thinking while working or trying to make things better for the employer. It seems that the greatest cause of attracting or keeping that kind of worker is either an unwillingness to pay well or an inability to give meaningful raises. The usual path of events is that the employer's greed eventually leads to the failure of the company.

In other words a Ph.d. from some foreign nations may mean far greater abilities are present than a student trained in the US. economic competition is such that employers not only want these workers as they have to pay them less but also because even though the credentials look the same the US educated students can not compete.
If businesses admit this the public will rage over it. But we may be a stronger and safer nation because we do employ these students with foreign credentials.

That should shrink his fees quite a bit as well. Obviously both technology as well as strict government oversight will be needed to reduce the cost of pharmaceuticals. In other words we can not start at the end point of the expense path and get costs down without brutal actions. But if we lower the price of the entire medical pathway we can have top notch medical care at a tiny cost compared to what we pay these days.

I wonder if we could ever afford to eliminate alcohol which is nothing more than dope in liquid form.
If cable wants my bucks they better put out more and better at a vastly reduced rate. They charge too much and provide too little and charge a fortune. On the other hand Net Flix gives quite a bit and some of it is great entertainment and they hardly charge at all. My cable costs me $226. a month. I do get numerous services but still it is only worth about $50. a month in my opinion.
Regardless of what was in the guy's mind it was a criminal act and he should be charged, jailed, and required to pay damages. The air is public space. That does not change because someone is paranoid.
Business needs to change its methods. Bombarding people with advertising is unreasonable and it doesn't matter whether it is by the net, the phone, or junk mail. I can not believe that we do not at least have a common phone system that prevents advertising, sales, and charity calls from ringing my phone without my explicit and very direct, written consent. At the very least auto dialers could be sensed and blocked as could robo calls. We may have an opportunity to stop 100% of all phone sales and so-called telemarketing dead in its tracks.
Poorly crafted laws create nightmares as they can easily be misused and sometimes are deliberately misused. The same is true for sloppy enforcement. for example cops often find it easier to write traffic tickets late at night. There is little if any traffic to deal with and pulling someone over is easier. Also it is easier to get back up so we often see two or three squad cars dedicated to a simple traffic stop. But here is the catch. The traffic stop is easy to abuse as it is really an attempt to catch people who are doing worse things than driving infractions. The end result is that a driver may get a ticket for no reason at all simply because the cops want to know who is out late and why they are out late. We see cops inserting themselves into situations when the real intention may be to investigate and the people being interfered with are not always a direct path to the target. It is sort of like a guy who wants to date a pretty girl who hits on her dumpy looking roomie in order to be around the pretty girl a bit more and have a chance at getting to know her. Another similar tactic is for a cop to get friendly with your mail man so he can find out what bills come your way and perhaps just how you pay those bills.
Why is it that authorities are so ignorant that they allow projects to be built when a traffic and parking issue is obvious. For example an apartment house might have to meet a basic legal requirement of having four parking spaces per rental unit if they are one or two bedroom units and six spaces for three bedroom units.
A theater that seats 1,000 should be required to provide parking for 1,500 cars. I am astounded that building and zoning commissions fail to demand adequate parking for every enterprise. Those parking spaces should also have a standard size for each car and none of the super tight parking allowed at all.
We now know that CS education is worse for minority students than for more fortunate students just like all other areas of education. Unreasonable distribution of wealth does cause social strife and ultimately things like revolutions and a lot of violent crime, drug and alcohol addiction etc.. So the real answer is that if we really want poor students to do well we have to redistribute wealth so that the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor are much closer together economically. Gosh and gee whiz, who would ever have thought that socialism had any serious advantages?
Just how could a hospital have enough machine time availability to 3d print medications? 3d printing is not a fast process and once a machine is set up they would need to make quite a few pills before cleaning up the unit and running a program to produce a different mediation. Imagine how slow it would be if the machine printed one tablet and then had to have a clean up and switch supplies to print a different tablet. Considering the large number of different pills used daily in a hospital we might be looking at more than one 3d printer needed for each patient in the hospital. And they would still need medications for instant use in the ER or for patients who crash while in their rooms.
Whistle blowers deserve every advantage in making things public. There is no sane reason to protect any business from wrong doing. The very people that pretend to be patriots and church goers are the very ones wanting to suppress free speech and hide wrong doing. It is disgusting that a state could ever pass such un American laws.
That which was seen in a public place or seen from public space while occurring on private property or is a matter of public record may not actually have anything at all to do with privacy laws. A rental car company accidentally gave me my ex-wife's address a couple of years ago. I did not want or need her address. But being that it is part of the records of a private business I somehow find it hard to understand how privacy applies at all. I do understand that many people like being secretive but I'm not convinced that the law or the courts should help them live that way.
Some prejudices are reality based. If you have a business which depends upon employees that are not easily replaced you may not want to hire a bunch of young fertile women as the time lost to pregnancies may well make your business a failure. I have worked in situations in which i did not get a day off for several months and put in seven days a week at twelve hours a day. How many women could do that for six months running?
Libertarian notions are pretty much a joke to me. The last thing i want is anybody driving with pot in their blood. And the sick part is we have no measurement mode that is portable and convenient to judge the degree to which a person is impaired. A person with one beer and a lack of sleep may well have the chemicals in pot in their system hours after they ingested the pot. So what objective measurement can a cop make to tell how impaired a driver is at the moment. What that will actually cause is subjective arrests in which the cops are free to arrest anyone and claim they appeared to be impaired. In nations where racial strife is common that quickly will translate into the minority races being arrested for next to no offence at all while certain other people can drive impaired all they want. That alone is so socially dangerous that it justifies harsh punishment for the use or possession of any pot at all.

Maybe a learning process can result in which the damaged nerve can improve the ability to communicate with the brain and tissues required for controlled movement. And if all else is of little value it might provide a good way to exercise the lower body to maintain strength and circulation in the tissues. I do wonder if some stem cell nerve tissue sort of thing could not be added in parallel with the existing nerve to enhance the neural pathway or why it is so difficult to do such things.

A nation survives based upon a certain type of morality among citizens. And it is not the type of morality that worries about who sleeps with whom or whether birth control is moral. But when a man's morals are ruled by his financial concerns we are in the deepest kind of emergency. So we now have every wretch who somehow earns money from the conventional auto and truck industry using the lie in the form of deliberate blindness and deliberate ignorance to keep gas and diesel powered vehicles in place when the simple truth is that electric vehicles are clearly and by a huge margin what is needed for 99% of the drivers in our nation. Now watch this filth try and try and buckle down even harder to try and ruin, stop, or hold back Tesla. It is not the cowering pervert hiding in dark corners waiting to molest a child or strangle a young woman that should draw our wrath and ire. It is the common business man.
