Launching from space is different from doing from here. The people still must get up there, but once there, they could eventually do several trips, apart from the automated ones, and good part of the complexity/cost of getting to the moon/asteroids is mostly getting in orbit. And things could get interesting if asteroids can be mined to build new ships from materials from up there.
At some point technology will be so advanced that couldn't be distinguished from magic... or miracles, at least for the people that don't understand it. The solution is not to complain, to hide, or to ban technology, is to make people to understand it.
Could be ontopic... was worried about how it will handle refrigeration, and air circulation in its current shape, and if the place in August is hot maybe could be a problem there.
Large screen + cpu chewing apps is no good for something that meant to work unplugged at least close to a work day. In the N900 with the game gripper you already have a not so bad gaming console/smart phone, where you can play playstation/n64/mame/native games, but battery life wiill be pretty bad.
In a sense, is far, is more than 3 whole earths side to side of distance. No, you will not hear a "zing!" when it passes over.
In the other hand, was discovered just 2 days ago. If a bigger one coming with a bit more accuracy is discovered now won't be anything that could be done, the plans that are actually to deal with possible impacts implies maybe years,
These are the voyages of the glorified airplane SpaceShipTwo. Its fifty-minute mission: to explore strange heights; to seek out new life and new sensations; to boldly go where only a few man and women has gone before.
Lets give a twist to that. If in the (recent) past US government captured a lot of "suspects" of terrorism, imprisioned and tortured them without even proving that were guilty, even some of them were minors, and maybe some died in the process, how different would be from North Korea, regarding an hypotetical international law? And who will inflict punishment for that if is in fact a superpower the one doing it?
Is no reason to "misbehave" because others do, but still don't complain about someone else when you are doing mostly the same.
Add the ability to actually answer the phone or read/send SMS. In fact, as all of that is in phones that could run Android, integration there could be interesting.
To be criminal mean i.e. to go against the laws of your country. If you define the laws, and go according to them, then you aren't a criminal, whatever the laws of another countries say. In fact, under the laws of another country, you or your government could be criminals (think how far from that was Bush last period). Not so much defending North Korea, just attacking that way of reasoning.
You should add foreing languages and availability to that problem. Even if editorials publish a translation, will it be available everywhere? Sometimes translations are done by particulars and distributed in electronic form as they are not available. Also something that editorials don't think it will be massively popular won't be in all brick and mortar stores.
There are different kinds of "IP rights". The ones that say essentially that you can't think or imagine something are definately against freedom. One thing is verbatim copies of your work, no creative process involved, and another thinking in the same or even reaching the same conclusions.
No matter how safe is the OS they are using, or what antivirus they have to run there, the biggest risk is on the other side of the keyboard. Show them the Good Times "virus", a bit of social engineering is easier to be seen than abstract code.
Do not try to rotate the monitor — that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth: there is no monitor. Then you'll see, that it is not the monitor that rotates, it is only yourself.
Such kind of patent harms internet and advancement in general. Why not patent things in a way that would lead everyone to go forward? I..e. if someone patent posting duplicate news would be a boom for slashdot and other similar communities
Not for not supporting HTML5, but for setting the precendent where a lot of developers made their site for the "de facto standard" of it. Implementing right now HTML5 is making the same kind of mistake, should not be future proof.
In the other hand, the main browser that have no clue on what HTML5 is is precisely IE, so now they are getting a bit of their own medicine.
Somewhat make me remember irc bots (or more recently, google wave bots), where some where spammers, some don't. Putting them all into the same bag darkens a bit that gray area. Somewhat a rightful use of automated tools became quicksand because spammers can use it too.
Make me remember Game Gripper. Take a powerful enough cellphone, put there a bunch of games and console emulators (playstation, n64, mame, etc), and with this layer over the keyboard you have a portable gaming console (and a cellphone, gps, camera, media player and so on).

Things are not so bad yet. But add humans, and you have the perfect recipe for a disaster.

you should check how much should be getting the lawyers with all the smartphone companies suing each other for patents.
.... nah, lets have fun.

If several have the same idea at roughly the same time by their own means, it makes the patent system to look even more unfair.

Probably they are just a few seconds apart. Should take a lot of years in orbit to get to minutes of difference.

The problem is if global culture makes that sligthly different, like taking them from your 457F dead hands.

is that a stainless steel RAT?

Maybe could save IPv4... but will kill internet.
