    XMMS is a mediocre clone of Winamp 2. It gets the job done, sorta, but it's certainly not something I'd hold up as quality software.

    Define modern sound? Evolution of consumer soundcards essentially stoped with the SB Live, which runs find in BSD. I was not aware that running emacs required a 3D card. Getting stuff done != games.

    But that's really the point. FreeBSD is about getting it done and getting on with your life, not pie-in-the-sky stuff that's of no use to 99.9% of the users.

    I run Audion on my iBook. Majorly kick ass. Integrated ripping, kick ass playlist management, and really neato skinning. It's shareware but worth the $25.

    Nah, even assuming they're 250k a peice, that's 4,000 per GB, 3TB total. 3TB isn't that much. And, obviously, if they're smaller, that total only goes down.

    Yes, you are.

    My iBook was $969 + $70 Airport card + $43 256Mb SODIMM. It's a super laptop (4 hour battery life!) for under $1100.

    Not at all.

    There's a notice on one of their policy pages that they'll give a domain to anyone with a valid claim (Trademark, etc). I e-mailed the provided address, stating that A: I was the original registrant and B: It's my name. They got back to me in under 24 hours to arrange the transfer.

    Yes, it's semi-sleazy, but they don't cybersquat.

    Timeline:

    1997 or so: I registered tylereaves.com, mainly for use in e-mail

    2000: I let the domain lapse, not really using it, and tired of paying $40 a year or so for it (Hey, registering was expensive in '97!)

    200?: Netster becomes the owner of tylereaves.com

    2003: I nicely ask for it back.
    2003: I get my domain back. They didn't even charge me the trasnfer fees.

    Bullshit. Just have a central processor who offers prepaid credit. You buy in with your credit card in standard units ($5, $10, $20, etc) and then use that until it runs out, then you charge it up again.

    Linux already has a unified interface. It's called the command line. Besides, it's not like figuring out any of the mainstream WMs is hard.

    Most of the newb friendly distros through one of KDE/Gnome in as the default choice, which works fine for someone who doesn't know any better.

    Lately I've been playing Thomastik-Infeld's on my two basses. The powerbass (roundwound, great for slap, and plenty of bottom too, plus they last forever) on my P-Bass and Jazz Flats on my 6-string fretless. Those are amazing strings. Almost as bright as roundwounds, but again, last forever and don't chew up the fingerboard. They're made in Austria, and I doubt you'd find in 'em in stores in the US. I get mine from juststrings.com
