That "faster than C sometimes" statement is pure Sun marketer drivel. Think about it this way, if Java can be faster, why does when anyone want a highly optimized Java VM they write it in C?
I'm probably going to get modded down but anyway: the big deal is that Microsoft champions C#, while Open Source champions C++. Therefore, nothing can POSSIBLY be wrong with C++. At least C# doesn't have some awful templating system. (Watch me get replies from people claiming to enjoy templates).
How long did it take to write this review? Isn't this book a little too narrow in scope for a book review? This is probably more of a leaflet. I've seen longer articles in phrack.
I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but Romero has recently announced at E3 that Daikatana's source code will be released in 3 weeks. As you can imagine, everyone is very excited, because we can bring the advanced AI "buddy bots" from Daikatana to our favorite games, like Half Life, or maybe even the upcoming Doom3. Nothing will be better than having Superfly Johnson behind you helping you frag a cyberdemon.
Could it be the fact that/. is having to splash more and more advertising over what used to be an awesome, up to date, (mostly) spellllled correctly site? I bet by swiping the referral, they are making more money than they have with the MICROSOFT(!) ads that I can see at the top of my screen. Slashdot is all about personal freedoms and geek ethics until the latest Matrix comes out on DVD or there is a quick buck to be made.
Item! Did you know that Spiderman was almost fired from the set of his movie? Tune in to Geeks in Spacetonight to find out more about this juicy gossip.
What did you expect? Microsoft gets a lose/lose situation on Slashdot. If they did NOT add these features OS X has, Linux zealots would be spouting how inferior Windows is. However, since they DID add the features that everyone seems to want, the plan is just to belittle the fact that Windows 2003 will probably be an improvement on Windows 2000/XP because of features "lifted" from OS X.
you know, this may be a bit of a stretch, but why don't you make one alias that takes you to your "my documents" folder and then enable the tab completion in the shell? wouldn't that be easier than piddling away hours and hours writing batch files? Still, Windows rocks in this regard.
how much longer until we are taxed on the air we breathe?

Today: ESR proclaims that Seth Finklestein, as a famous cybersecurity expert, "gets it".
actually, if a debian user wants the shiny new version of kde, he waits 3 years first for it to hit stable.
(a debian user)
I knew someone would end up buying Segways, but I had no idea it would be the CIA.

This isn't really any different from C/Perl. (At least until Palladium comes out.)

best *BSD dying post EVAR
I'm surprised no one has seen your pathetic attempt to score some $ from a referral link.

now one standard no one seems to like can use a standard that no one likes to use!

I can tell you are a real Pearl programmer just by how you type it.
well, too bad they'd spend all $450 paying Red Hat to support their obtuse desktop. (not to say that Microsoft support calls are free either)
alas, i am from the time when slashdot sigs could be longer than however many characters they limit us to.
What has happened to anonymous coward? Also, why am I being nagged about a subscription at the top of all the stories?
who says you have to run VMS on a VAX?
what if your vendor is linux?!?! HAHA then you are screwed!
"Kazaaa" is not a java application
By definition, if you're running OS/2 you ARE a moron.
