  1. Re:Doubtful on MIT's Ted Postol Presents More Evidence On Iron Dome Failures · · Score: 1

Or perhaps your parents are deluded by Israeli propaganda designed to make Iron Dome seem effective. Skewing the numbers is, unfortunately, common courtesy when evaluating missile defense systems. Perhaps the military are not including those missiles that landed but hit nothing but the ground in the counts.

When the conflict just started there were some numbers released that Iron Dome had shot down 80% of Palestinian rockets. A day later they released the number of rockets fired and those destroyed at that time: 160 fired, 2 destroyed. That's no 80% of the rockets, instead it amounts to 1.25%...so someone screwed with the numbers there, and I bet it's Israel.

You could swap "Israel" and "Hamas" in your list, and have the exact same list of arguments.

Meanwhile, Israel is isolating itself internationally, committing war crimes right and left, and showing to Muslims worldwide that they are assholes. I'm not denying that Hamas are assholes too, but seeing Israel's excessive use of force (and mass-punishment) Israel will be the loser of this conflict (just like last time...).

Personally, I believe Hamas or any other terrorist organisation will not destroy Israel. Israel will destroy itself instead.

In other news, the most likely hiding place for that battery of BUK missiles is Vladimir's eminent and firm behind.

If you buy an old box and plan to upgrade the RAM, it might be worthwhile to update the BIOS to the latest version to get more memory options. I had a vintage PC that would work with double-sided SDRAM modules but not with single-sided ones, until I upgraded the BIOS. After that the machine went from 64Mb to 320 Mb RAM quite easily, using one double-sided 64 Mb 100 MHz module and two single-sided 128 Mb 133 MHz modules.

Another source for compatible hardware (harddisks, memory, and DVD-players) are Macs up to about 2005. The 'specialised' Apple hardware used in these are just rebranded off-the-shelf components that will work fine in a Pentium II/III PC.

It's not 1995, when playing with jumpers using shitty manuals and solving IRQ conflicts was a major part of hardware installation that could be a total pain in the arse.

Pick up an old Pentium 2 or Pentium 3 box from a reputable manufacturer, maybe update to the latest BIOS, install a good OS, and off you go. Besides, some people like tinkering with hardware...

It's only the 2dRank list that's screwed up, the PageRank list is a lot more reasonable. I don't know why they even included that 2dRank list, it ruins their credibility. The methodology doesn't even make sense. PageRank works based on determining how influential you are based on how much things link to you. Makes sense, right? Well, 2dRank uses that *plus* how much you link to other people. Why should how much you link to other people have any significance on how influential you are? Perhaps how influenced you are, but certainly not how influential you are.

Making stupid claims makes people stop listening to what you have to say. It's like you're sitting on a bus and you see the following sign: "1. This is a space ship. 2. No smoking". The demonstrable falsity of the first part undermines the credibility of the second part.

The first list also has its problems. It is not objective at all, as how many things link to you is unfortunately time-frame-dependent. What this list actually measures is the popularity of historic figures in the current time-frame (2014). To give a more objective view, it would have to take into account all the literature from all times...

...and that would not preclude the list from changing in the future.
