    racked by delays and mismanagement

    40 years of code could mean 2-3 years of development, and then fixing a bug here and there and updating this or that every now and then. Just because some of the code is 40 years old does not equate to 40 years of development time.

    5 years is a pretty long time to focus on straight dev time. Sounds like the mismanagement part had more of an impact than just using the excuse of it being a "legacy system". I realize that management always portays the timeline as 1/3 of what it will actually take to develop something, but wasting 5 years and $300 million... It's hard for me to think of a justification for that!

    Why do many people with STEM degrees not work in STEM jobs? They apparently count management and education as non-STEM, even if these people are managing STEM projects or teaching STEM courses. That already accounts for the two biggest groups.

    Precisely, agree 100%. At my college, they had a Mathematics degree inside of an education program. Obviously everyone with that type of a degree are going into the education field. And a degree in IT Management... Although it has IT in the name, is not a STEM degree! A "STEM degree" does not always equate to a "STEM job".

    I guess the person who did this study's statistics did not have a STEM degree.

    A spokesman for CNN said the company had a fix ready and was working with Apple to have it approved and released to the iTunes AppStore.

    How many people are going to read this and take advantage of the flaw before Apple approves the release to the AppStore? That's one argument for Android. Not having to wait for releases of App updates.

    40' RV? That's like when the trashiest of white trash wins the lottery.

    That's hilarious. Measuring your son's success by the length of his RV. I bet all the MS exec's are drowning in envy. Maybe the company is doing X number of millions in sales or has a workforce of thousands of employees. That would be an impressive success quota.

    Normally threatening to cancel always results in a lower bill, but man, after hearing that, I should be able to really get a low rate! All the reps probably have a quota per day of how many people they can turn around from wanting to cancel. We can use that to our advantage!

    Instead of finding a job that is future proof, or learning a set of skills that will get her a job, why not recommend to her to do something that she enjoys doing? No one can predict the future, and settling for a future proof job because the job that she would want to do may possibly go away sometime in the future sounds like setting her up for a miserable life. The best advice is to follow a path that she enjoys. A job will always be just a job, but a career is doing something that you love.
