I'm waiting to see what IBM will do with Blue Linux. In the meantime I might go back to Mandrake. I keep getting into upgrade Hell. Mandrake 9.something worked fine until I got a new video card, which it didn't support. So I got the latest Mandrake, 9.somethingelse, which kept dying during installation. So I tried Slack, but it had problems. So I downloaded RH9 which DID work, but not on my other machine, but Mandrake did, so now I have two distros.
Get yerself born in the 1950's. Go to concerts(1) by the Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, etc. Buy headphones, get stoned, and listen to the headphones with the volume cranked up all the way. Head banging might help.
Nowadays, I don't hear my PC at all. I don't hear much of anything, come to think of it.
From the article: "We will rise to this challenge, and we will compete in a fair and responsible manner that puts our customers first. We will show that our approach offers better value, better security and better opportunity."
I'd say, unlike you and BJ Clinton, that a BJ is a form of real sex. I was thinking more like virtual reality, where you are wearing goggles and a body suit.
Of course, for most nerds, VR sex would be alot better than autoerotic stimulation.
I don't claim to be anywhere near Turing's stature, but it seems that his premise is bunk. What he's saying (if the poster correctly represents Turing's thesis) is that a simulation of consiousness is the same as the real thing.
Plus, in addition to your 8 step proof, you can add that if a person can be fully consious with either the left half or right half of the brain, then conciousness resides in neither side.
I guess I'm in the "there's gotta be more than just matter" involved in conciousness. If a computer can be built that is self-concious (and not just a good simulator), then at which point does it cross the line from just a pile of electronics into being alive? How many transistors or lines of code does it take?
I was referring to the distro, not the Media Player. What's to prevent someone from paying $150 for TurboLinux and setting up free downloading of it? I thought that's how Mandrake got their start, by repackaging RedHat with their own installer.

Yah, I've never had a problem with my post-its getting too wet to operate correctly.
But the thought of supporting 170 times my weight is interesting. Can I climb up the sides of tall buildings clutching a handful of post-its?
The goal: to enter what they believe to be a mammoth structure some 45 feet high, 75 feet wide and up to 450 feet long that was exposed in part by last summer's heat wave in Europe.
The cost of grid power has seen a steady increase of about 6%/year, and the cost of solar is coming down. With net metering and time-of-use metering (i.e. you sell your electricity to the power company), a residential solar system can start paying for itself on day 1.
Does anyone know if you can run a fuel cell backwards, i.e. put in water and electricity and get out hydrogen and oxygen? If so, is that any more or less efficient than simple electrolysis, which in this case I assume is just immersing two electrodes in the water?
Wanna buy this solar powered flashlight real cheap?

I've never tried it, but can't you use FreeBSD 'vinum' to implement RAID? Or maybe it does RAID on PODs (Plain Old Disks).
No, you are looking for a guy in a funny helmet with a deep voice, who answers to the name "Vader".
(1) I never went to a Blue Cheer concert, even though they were billed as the world's loudest band.
Here's my solution:
Get yerself born in the 1950's. Go to concerts(1) by the Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, etc. Buy headphones, get stoned, and listen to the headphones with the volume cranked up all the way. Head banging might help.

Actually, by definition, an autonomic nervous system doesn't involve conciousness. Can you control you heartbeat, sweating, serotonin level?
My cat feels pain, but does he know that, or just react to it? Even bacteria react to external stimuli, but do they "know" it?
I'd say, unlike you and BJ Clinton, that a BJ is a form of real sex. I was thinking more like virtual reality, where you are wearing goggles and a body suit.
Of course, for most nerds, VR sex would be alot better than autoerotic stimulation.
So you are saying, for yourself anyway, simulated sex is identical with the real thing.
Virtual reality anyone?

Or is that not a GPL requirement anymore?
Here's a clue.
The goal: to enter what they believe to be a mammoth structure some 45 feet high, 75 feet wide and up to 450 feet long that was exposed in part by last summer's heat wave in Europe.
Or you can see him here
No, the other formula is:
(cost of solar) (cost of grid power).
The cost of grid power has seen a steady increase of about 6%/year, and the cost of solar is coming down. With net metering and time-of-use metering (i.e. you sell your electricity to the power company), a residential solar system can start paying for itself on day 1.
You bring up alot of good points, but you left out one important alternative: ethanol fuel cells.
BTW, the story didn't mention if they still have to distill the final product.
Anyone know how much the first bit cost (assuming we can agree on what the first digital computer was)?
Seems like an 8051 with 16K and no OS would do just fine.
Are you referring to this dangerous substance?
Does anyone know if you can run a fuel cell backwards, i.e. put in water and electricity and get out hydrogen and oxygen? If so, is that any more or less efficient than simple electrolysis, which in this case I assume is just immersing two electrodes in the water?

In effect, the Hindenburg was coated with solid rocket fuel.
That's OK. DOD says they won't cut over to the new system until all the IPv6 addresses are used up.
Just put them on The Hurd and be done with it. You know we'll all end up there eventually.
I tried xwindows, which worked, and the 3rd item listed was www.xfree86.org.
