is closer to Photoshop 3. The text tool is a dog, among other things.
Just a note... with the newer gimps (1.1.x) there is a "Dynatext" (or something like that) tool. It basically allows you to add text and then re-edit it later, change it's properties and what have you. This is a much better way of doing things IMHO.
I don't know if it's my gtk theme or not (satinblack) but the menus don't show up properly, they just make painting errors and then if I click them again they show up. Weird. Anyone else experience this?
It seems to indicate that they'll be picking from the pool of applicants for the civ:ctp beta. I'm guessing that if you didn't sign up for civ:ctp you won't get on:(
ObUPSBull - they came to my building on thursday, it's now almost a week later... WTF is my Civ:ctp??? Darn you to heck UPS! To Phil with you!
I've seen some of the maps they've worked on, and some of the stuff that zoid is doing for the new CTF and the 2 maps included with q3test are NOTHING compared to the stuff that they have coming. The arcitecture (sp?), special effects, etc are absolutely amazing... the engine is awsome.
I think that id did good in sticking with what works. TF/TF2 is a different kind of multiplayer; q3 is straight deathmatch, and nothing more. And IMHO, q3 will (or has) raise the standard once again for 3d engines.
ObJobPlacement: Perhaps he's going to Valve? Anyone thought of that?
Much music says they'll be airing the Dual of the Fates video at 8:30 EST, so everyone out here better set their vcrs to record at 5:30 (well, actually I'm recording from 5:20 to 6, but I digress....)
No way, just untar the.tar.gz into/usr/local/games/ (or your directory of choice). No other software is installed, everything stays nice and neat in./q3test
Sometimes you do need a.deb, and sometimes you don't:)
I read them, and while some of them hit it right on the head, others were just so far out of there that it made me angry. Really, Really angry. The above quoted one about taking an inventory test (I assume this means have your locker/clothes searched or something) seems to be written by someone who is way *WAY* out of reality. A knee jerk reaction it looks like.
People how make threats should get searched, period.
What a joke.
I'd agree with the tone of the letters that katz got, the people makeing the threats are being taunted into it by the jocks and cheerleaders and the other groups that feel the need to taunt and pick on those that are not as "cool" or as "in" as them.
I can't agree more. High school for me sucked incrediably, I have the same story as hundreds reading this, outcast, picked on, doing my best to hide from any and all attention and just make it through another day without being embarassed publicly again.
Toward the end though, things got better. I started working out in the gym, started rock climbing and found I was *good* at it. After high school I hooked up with some new people in college, and was so so so incrediably happy to meet people who were mature, and who didn't find joy in making fun of my shoes/jacketc/shirt for no reason other than to make me feel bad.
Finding good people is the key I think you can thrive off of each other, and if your environment is comfortable and happy life is so much better.
But that said, I really feel for the kids in HS today, because at least when I was there (6 years ago or so) we didn't have nearly the drug/weapon and gang problems that are more and more apparent these days:(
Good luck guys, and just remember that there *are* people out here who feel as you do, and this "evil internet culture" can (and is) used for support and communication.
I don't know the details of what they were trying to teach in the class, but if were a CS100 'this is the control panel' type class, and you failed, you deserve what you get, and whining (and suing) about it is useless. Now if they promoted a 3rd year database course as 'point and click', this could be a problem.
Aren't there prereq's to the hard classes? I know when I took my 3rd year database class I had to have 2nd year db and a host of other classes that showed that I was not an idiot and had the basis of knowledge needed for the class.
Now did this school not have this set up? Maybe it *was* a first year class that didn't need pre-reqs? Even so, suing is not an option IMHO.
Run 'dox' and there should be (there was before anyway) some info on hotkeys. I agree though, one of the things I love about WM is the alt+1,2 etc, it makes SO much difference while I'm working. I hope E+gnome brings the same level of efficiency as well as nice looks.
I've been looking for gnome 1.0 debs and they don't seem to exist. Can anyone help? I'm assuming that when it said in the article that gnome was available I'm assuming they meant 1.0...
Lets go with "deeply disturbing". May 21 isn't that far away is it? HUH? HUH?
This reminds me of waiting for quake1... except instead of running through doom levels with the moniter off or such things I'll just read the trailer info a few thousand times...
Yeap, we got/.ed BIG TIME. Loads up to 78 on my little p133 server.... I reconfigged apache and it seems to be going better now (after a reboot and a bit of kill(1)ing of processes.
Until I get my new server, peer2peer is running on an ADSL connection, on a p133 with 32 meg ram. Please be gentle:)
Agreed... except I'd substitute coke, and since my 'puter already has linux installed, I have no need for a CD. Add a nice fast ADSL to that and I have all I want.
Course I'd rather not be single, but hey, since I am I might as well make the most of it eh?
My mistake... when I posted the story to Rob I forgot that the CDs were not SuSE, but in fact Caldara. Sorry if I didn't give credit where credit was due.
Who gave what aside, Linux is Linux, and Linux was a hit:)
Nope, 21. The text on the regestration card you get when you have registered clearly says 'no one under the age of 21 will be allowed in'. It used to 16, and before that (when I started going at age 12 or so) there was no age limit.
While I can understand that they want to keep the show professional and all, how many of the greatest programmers/computer people started being interested in computers only after they were 21.
Course, it's no big deal IMHO, the show last year was basically a contest of who could have the loudest booth, and how much of the floor could be taken up by Microsoft and it's minions
The only reason I'm not getting this book (yet) is that the 1.1 features (and I guess 1.2 when everything is 'stable') aren't in the book (or I assume not, as 1.1 was only non-cvs 10 days ago). I know there are not huge amount of new stuff in 1.1, but enough that a bigger book could be made.
I'd be interested in a review of this when people read it, because there is a LOT of the non 1.1 stuff in gimp I just have no clue about:)
I disagree. This is an article showing linux in a positive light in the news. If/. never posted anything that 'we' hadn't heard before about linux, there would hardly be any linux news at all!
Don't forget that not all/. readers are seasoned linux hackers. Some maybe be newbies, or people looking to run their business on linux, or people looking for something to invest in.

You get to use copy con?? I have to do all my serious coding with "echo"! Really sucks when writing those device drivers....
:)
Arcterex, waiting for 'had to magnatize the HD using the moon's orbit' comments...

Well, if you have multiple resolutions set up in your XF86Config file, you can use CTRL+ALT+numpad+/numpad- to switch resolutions on the fly.

I'm 23 too, and I think that everyone deserves to be the same age as Alan :-)
Have a good one, and keep those pants on!
