It's retards like the previous loser that will be the *nix community's own downfall.
Obviously, the "social circles" that most anyone who has a PC in their home or in use for their business don't nearly approach your elitist clique of uber-nerds and college students who are forced to use *nix because their professors are shills and lackeys for "RMS" and his half-baked philosophy of what "open source" and "free software" are.
Whenever I think of the term "free software" I think of the 60's, Haight-Ashbury and the social decline that the word "free" brought upon the world since then:
"Free Love" gave us AIDS
"Peaceniks" gave us the SLA, the "Weather Underground" and the "Weathermen", The Black Panthers, Angela Davis, riots in Berkeley and a host of other social ills
"Tune-in, turn-on & drop-out" gave us crack-addicted babies, gang wars, corporate scandals due to drug use/abuse and pot-smoking Presidents.
With that kind of "free", who needs any enemies? We'll just exterminate ourselves, just like the *nix world will fall on it's own sword.
The more likely reason is that some of the DARPA funding was going to non-US Citizens, and not because of some twit's half-baked "armchair politician" commentary.
DARPA has *every* right to pull funding for *any* projects that they fund, especially when the funding is not directly benefiting the USA - which is what happens when the money leaves the USA and goes to a "foreign national" or a citizen of another nation.
Since when does revealing such information about a flawed product that would allow anyone to exploit that flawed product to engage in illegal activities equate to "rights"?
One could easily equate such "information" and tools to the sale and use of lockpicks. With that given, answer the following questions:
1) Do you have the right to steal, or to gain access to someone's personal space without their expressed approval?
2) Does someone have the right to steal from you, or to gain access to your personal space without your expressed approval?
3) Do you have the right to obtain products/items/services that could be used to steal things (use the example of "lockpicks")?
4) Do you have the right to reveal such information on products/items/services that could be used to steal things (again, "lockpicks")?
5) Does anyone have the right to use any of the aformentioned things against you?
If you answered "no" to all of the questions, then you should be praised for your moral integrity.
If you answered "Yes" to #1 and "No" to #2, you are a psychopath. Go seek help from a psychiactric professional IMMEDIATELY
If you answered "Yes" to #3 and/or #4 and/or #5, your morals and sense of societal norms are screwed-up, and have probably been so because of exposure to liberal, left-wing "The-world-owes-me-a-living" mentality and will probably be arrested due to your own stupidity.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the world has lost it's "moral center". It lost it in the 1960's, thanks to eastern philosophy, hippies, "flower-power", "free-love/free sex", the "drug culture", and the whole "do no harm" mentality that sprang-up from the 60's.
Anarchy? It came and went, and we are only swimming in it's foul backwater.
1) There is no "drug" that will cure AIDS/HIV. Some drugs offer a modicum of relief from the symptoms or only a slight reduction in the ravages of AIDS/HIV.
2) A large portion of the money spent by the AIDS/HIV Patient on drug therapy is to supplement R&D budgets of Pharmaceutical companies. Yes, the Fed gives these companies bunches of money for AIDS/HIV research, but even now there is still no "silver bullet" to halt and/or reverse the effects of HIV. Consequently, those that can afford the "drug cocktail" that most HIV patients must take are far and few between, and only a handfull of medical insurance plans assist with such treatment programs.
3) Drugs for AIDS/HIV are not a commodity yet. You can't go to the local drugstore/chemist (for our British readers) and buy AZT or some other variant like you can buy Bayer Asprin, because there is no sure candidate in the current collection of drugs being developed for AIDS/HIV - and in some cases, the side-effects of these drugs are worse than the disease itself.
Now, to get the topic back on track:
1) Hydrogen is fairly plentiful - it just takes a bit of work to extract it from the environment.
2) Major infrastructure changes must be made to make Hydrogen a clear and CONVENIENT replacement for petrolium-based fuels. You can put good money down on the fact that the current collection of Oil companies are going to want to be deeply involved in the delivery of hydrogen to the populace on the core assumption that if hydrogen *does* supplant petrolium-derrived fuels the Oil companies will collapse, causing hundreds of thousands of people to be out-of-work - from Gas Station attendants to secretaries, accounting staff and sysadmins.
3) You can expect any major infrastructure change such as the switch from petrolium-based propulsion & energy-creation systems to hydrogen-based systems will take approximately the same amount of time it took for the Automobile to become the dominant form of locomotion. It will take a leap like that of Henry Ford's innovation to cause this to happen, and I don't see any major car manufacturer making any bold statement that their 2007/2008 line of cars will be totally Hydrogen-powered.
Things change - but not as quickly as we would want them to.
So, I can label Linux, OpenBSD & FreeBSD as "Legacy" systems based on System V because they can also produce a "%" prompt, or that they all can run C source code? Brilliant deduction!!
Go tell that to their respecitve camps and I bet you'll find yourself stuck on a spit by a cuddly penguin with a devilish-looking tyke slowly turning the spit as you roast over hot coals.

Unfortunately, all of this "dark fiber" that is so frequently spoken of is *not* FTHoP (Fiber To Home or Premises), but over-ordered and unlit fiber between MANs (Metropolitan Area Networks). A backbone provider worth their salt will always over-order fiber strands due to fiber-breaks, additional fiber pathway protection and redundancy-on-top-of-redundancy. SONET BLSR (Bi-Directional Line-Switch Ring) takes x2 of the needed fiber strands because you must have an alternate fiber path to provide circuit/ring redundancy to cover fiber breaks/cuts, where as UPSR (Unidirectional Path-Switched Rings) only needs 1 strand per fiber ring because fiber breaks/cuts or failures will cause the equipment to switch-out and "wrap" the ring to try to keep some sort of integrity on the ring and to try to minimize the number of nodes switched-out of the ring.
FTHoP won't be a reality in most neighborhoods for some time to come because of the exorberantly-high prices - unless the city has been forward-thinking enough to include fiber networks pre-built into the city's infrastructure. "Dark Fiber" is a misonmner and does not include FTHoP facilities.
It's not ironic at all. France, Germany, Russia and China are only in the UN to protect their own self-serving interests:

4) Russia made an "Oil Deal" with Iraq IN VIOLATION OF UN RESOLUTIONS AND SANCTIONS.

It's sad how the world forgets 60 years of history so quickly. If it wasn't for the US envolement in both World Wars, France, Russia & most of Africa would be speaking Deutche, half of China and the rest of Asia would be writing in Kanji and speaking Japanese under an Imperial Japan.

Here's a wonderful plan for the rest of the world:
1) US Permanently closes all borders and arms Border Patrol with Military Hardware to enforce our Soverign Territory (defense of our borders, especially against snooty Canadians and smelly Mexicans)
2) US Permanently cancels all "mutual defense" treaties, recalls ALL US Military forces from foreign soil and lets the other, so-called "Democratic" Societies beat the hell out of each other (Isolationist policy)
3) US Permanently expells and deports all Illegal Immigrants and arrests all foreigners with expired Visas under gunpoint. (defence against foreign insurgents)
4) US calls all Foreign Aid Debt given to other nations as "Immediately Due and Payabe" (Financial Independence - which would cause the financial collapse of the rest of the World)
5) US Withdraws from the UN, takes-over the UN Plaza and expells all foreign diplomats and embassy officials. (UN has become a support-system for Socialist & neo-Communist forces.)
Let's see how long the world will last without the support and aid of the USA!!!!!!!
As a member of that class-action suit, I can tell you this:
1) The case ended-up in the Supreme Court, where a "writ of certorari" was requested by two of the original litigants - they didn't agree in the attorney's fee distribution of 25% (and that was very generous of the lawyers, considering the enormity of the case), and ended-up taking that to the 9th Circuit Court - who supported the original decree. The "writ of certorari" was requested of the Supreme Court - to request the Supreme Court to either acknowledge or overrule the 9th Circuit Court's decision on legal fee distribution.
2) The US Supreme Court chose not to respond to the writ request - in which, if they chose not to respond, the writ would be defaulted and denied. This was the latest legal proceeding on the case, which ended in November, 2002
3) Microsoft was fined US$98,667,000.00, to be paid-out to those persons that qualify as class-members of the class action suit
4) Microsoft deposited all of that in an ESCROW account to be managed by a subsidiary of Key Bank - including interest.
5) A consulting firm was retained to manage the database of potential class-members, and they are ready to send-out claim forms to potential class-members
6) Microsoft is blocking the distribution of the claim forms for reasons unknown.
So, contrary to what everyone else thinks about me here, I do *not* love everything that comes from or happens at 1 Microsoft Way in Redmond, WA.
A Seattle-based lawfirm took many pains and risks in launching this class-action suit, which is the first of it's kind in protecting the rights of contract and temporary employees.
I'm not going to give-out the URL for the lawfirm's website, as class-members use this site to regularly check on the status. Some of us may be winning awards of US$2,357.00 (which is on the low-end) upwards to hundreds of thousands of dollars, so in this current economy you'll forgive us if we're eagerly awaiting our portions of the settlement and don't want the site to feel the effects of the dreaded "/." effect.
We were managed as if we were actual MS "headcount", and denied any of the other benefits that MS Employees *and* Interns received. Personally, I'm glad this has come so far.
I've been using a Roland GP-16 for years now, and their "Lineout Filter" - which was the precursor to COSM - works pretty well. With the COSM implementation on Rolangs VG-8, you can even control mic placement (including on-axis/off-axis, mic distance, height, aiming) and even cabinet design (open-back, closed-back, baffled, folded) and brand of mic (SM57, Sennheiser, etc).
COSM is also used extensively in Rolands VDrums System.
Remember - "modeling" is "Simulation", and it will never be an *exact* copy no matter how wide the DSP bandwidth or processing power.
(If anyone here is still using the GP-16, email me for a cool tip/trick with that box).
The conclusions drawn were reactionary. I don't see any reason why there would be any problem with getting bondable & insurable people to transport these "mostly harmless" Estes engines. What to gunsmiths and black-powder enthusiasts do? So, UPS *might not* ship them? No where does it say that UPS will STOP shipping.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but doesn't the GPL define anything licenced under the GPL as virtually being "public domain" (i.e. free for use by anyone)?
With that being the case, doesn't "public domain" superceed *any* copyright claims? As long as they include a copy (including hardcopy) of the source, they're not in violation of the GPL.
This is exactly what I've been waiting to happen to the GNU GPL and it's viral clones.
One could now say: "The GNU GPL means 'Free Software' - unless we want to define the GPL to fit our particular situation"
1) The original North American/Rockwell design and spec for the Shuttle included a super-hardened flight deck "module" with enough seating for all the crew on the flight deck level - no crew seating in lower deck(s)
2) The original design and spec for the Shuttle included multiple solid-fuel rocket motors attached to the flight deck "module" and was designed to blast that "module" free from the Shuttle fuselage in case of an emergency - similar to the crew capsule/cockpit of the F-111.
A similar system was designed in the original spec for the B-1A - which was also designed by North American/Rockwell. Both systems were scrapped because of "budgetary considerations" hampered by a Democratic-led Congress.
The Shuttle is the ONLY American Manned Space Vehicle that did NOT have an Emergency Egress or Emergency Escape System at the time of construction. Only after the Challenger disaster did NASA design some sort of Emergency Egress System - a system that would take an Astronaut approximately 5 minutes to egress the Shuttle.
Did the Challenger crew have 5 minutes? No.
Did the Colombia crew have 5 minutes? No.
Unfortunatley, this is what happens when you take a working Government Agency like NASA and strip it's budget, change it's focus, hog-tie it's management all for the sake of saving a few green-backs.
If Congress back then would have been more concerned about the safety of our Astronauts and devoted to the vision of men like Goddard & Von Braun, we'd already been to Mars, have a HUGE Space Station and a base on the Moon by now, with the Moon providing 90% of the material resources to build a FLEET of dozens of spacecraft to BUILD our way out of Earth Orbit instead of taking "baby-steps".
Do us all a favor and stop contemplating your own navel or practicing your daily onanism ritual.
Things wouldn't be so crappy if the money-grubbing, left-leaning Internet Business Scam-business-owners hadn't artificially pumped-up the economy with falsified financial reports and cooked accounting books. Things fell apart when these schysters tried to cash themselves out because they knew that a Republican Administration would investigate them and throw all of them in the slammer before they could catch the next plane to Jammaica or Sierra-Leone or Zurich. Thankfully, The Rigas's and other Morally-corrupt CEOs are being rounded-up and arrested for their financial shenanigans.
Crime *is* up because a good number of corrupt left-wing democrats are now out of work because "their boy" is no longer President and they have to survive. Why do you think that Clinton has is personal office in Harlem?
The Democratic Party is being run by all of the high-powered (and mostly corrupt) Lawyers in Washington, DC. They hide behind the edifices of their Lawfirms, orchestrating the breakdown of American Society. That's who to blame, you PUTZ!
I'd much rather have a President that was concerned about National Security, AIDS & the Economy than one who was thinking about the next time he could have a meeting with that "aide" or how he was going to hide that little windfall from that Condo deal - not to mention the deal with the Chinese where we sold them Top Secret missile design info. Nothing like selling-out your country when you're the (supposed) leader of that country - but since he was the left-wing/Liberal/Democraticn Party's "man", they'll look the other way just to get into power and do to the country what Monica did to "Slick Willie".
If you'd take a moment to review the technical information on the M400, you'll see that it's equipped with a rocket-launched parachute system - the same ones that are available for all light aircraft - in case of a catastrophic failure.
If SOME of you people would take the few brain-cells you have left and do some studying on this, you wouldn't come-off sounding like totall morons who are more interested in making "a funny".

What to gunsmiths and black-powder enthusiasts do? So, UPS *might not* ship them? No where does it say that UPS will STOP shipping.
This is nothing but pure "churn"

Correct me if I'm wrong - but doesn't the GPL define anything licenced under the GPL as virtually being "public domain" (i.e. free for use by anyone)?
With that being the case, doesn't "public domain" superceed *any* copyright claims? As long as they include a copy (including hardcopy) of the source, they're not in violation of the GPL.
This is exactly what I've been waiting to happen to the GNU GPL and it's viral clones.
One could now say: "The GNU GPL means 'Free Software' - unless we want to define the GPL to fit our particular situation"
Three cheers for RMS? FAH!!!!

Some Interesting factoids:

Idiot.

Get some perspective, people!!!

Slashdot - where the merrits of a particular topic or object are totally decided by the posters on Slashdot, regardless of any other information exists, either "pro" or "con" to the subject, outside of Slashdot.
Yes, it is just you.
Now, go finish watching "Cartoon Network" - your grilled-cheese sandwich will be ready in a little bit.
Hmmmm - sounds like someone is in a crabby mood.
What's wrong - not enough "Microsoft Flames" posted here this weekend?
Someone steal your idea for the "Nekkid ch|xors with Rubber Duckies" web site???
Go take a nap - I'm giving you your 10-day "Time-out"
