And with the exception of Lumines those PSP games are all ports of games that are better on the PS2.
All 4 of the listed DS games are UNIQUE.
Also take a look at what is out in Japan and soon to be out in US and that'll add another few games in the DS favor and then on top of that look at the list of games coming out in the next year on the DS
I'll tell you why. Because there are only like 2 games worth buying for the PSP so if you want to enjoy your beautiful new $250 toy you have to watch UMD movies on it or surf the web with the new 2.0 upgrade. Otherwise it'll just sit there collecting dust like the one at my house.
I disagree. Wipeout does suck. I mean it looks great and plays ok, but its nothing new. I got bored of it pretty fast as did most everybody else I know.
The base system costs $299 and has not way to save games.
The smallest and cheapest memory card I see for saving games costs $40. You pretty much have to have that.
I suppose you could get that and 1 game for the price of the standard(*cough* delux *cough* yeah we all know it's not delux it's the fucking standard system. MS marketing at its best) system, but why not just spend the extra $60 for the full package?
Bah nevermind. You're right. Parents will probably still go for the stripped down systeme especially if the standard one sells out during the hollidays.
Perhaps. My try was as good as yours. You picked one of the more expensive options for your example. You can get an 80 gig for $93 bucks. That's almost $1/gig. Thats a much better deal and I'm sure it's not the best deal out there. Also the xbox used full sized hard drives. I haven't read anything about the type of hard drive they will use in the 360. I suppose notebook drives would make sense to keep the size down so I wouldn't be too surprised. Got any links/proof that they're using notebook drives?
Sure. I didn't deny that, but that doesn't prove or disprove the fact that the games might still require new executables in order to be backwards compatible.
Although I had forgot about their deal with nVidea (replied to my orig. comment about it) but I still haven't seen any quotes from microsoft saying they are not going to need new executables. I HAVE seen quotes from microsoft saying they will need new executables. Until I see otherwise I'll just assume the harddrive is going to come packed with updated executables for xbox backwards compatibility.
Unless that nVidia deal kept them from having to do all that, that is. I would still expect them to have to do some work on the executable to get it working but I could be wrong.
Uhhhh yeah dude. $100 for 100 megs in the 90's? Early 90's maybe. That was 15 freaking years ago dude. Would you be happy spending $2,000 on a 15 year old TV also? Because that's pretty much what you're saying.
$100 for a 20 gig harddrive is INSANE!
You can buy a 300 gig drive for nearly the same price!
No. Actually you're completely wrong. (well you could also be right about old xbox games expecting a harddrive. I don't know for sure. It just depends)
"(Microsoft has) implemented compatibility purely through emulation (at the CPU level). It looks like emulation profiles for each game are going to be stored on the hard drive, and I imagine that a certain number will ship with the system. They already have the infrastructure to distribute more profiles via Live, and more and more can be made available online periodically."
Bullshit. Nice anonymous post and nice to see you can pull numbers out of your ass.
Sure a lot of the components might be purchased over seas on a lot of things, but not everything. I have friends who work for some of these companies in my local fucking town making things people use every day so don't give me that crap.
I'm sure when Intel designs a chip they're like "hmm lets just buy the core cpu from china because it'll be cheaper"
Oh yeah and I'm sure that's 90% of the reason those companies buy things from other countries (price) see I can pull numbers out of my ass too.
If they did what he was talking about I'd be the first person in line to try to open up my own hotel. Fuck it. As much as I dislike it you can't argue with cold hard cash.
Except for the fact that the delux package is actually the standard package and the standard package is actually a stripped down version of the regular 360.
Microsoft told us about the 360 and all the cool features and stuff.
Then they told us it would cost $300.
Then they tell us they'll be releasing updated versions over the years so we'll have to re-buy if we want those new features (even though games probably won't support them).
Then they tell us the 360 is really going to cost $400 for what we thought we were getting for $300, but we can get a stripped down version for $300.
Except they're turning it all around to make it look like you're actually getting extra features for that $400 when you're not. You're getting the standard console as it was meant to be.
I'm sure the bad news is just going to keep rolling in.
What about the fact that developing for all these differences is going to cost money and in turn raise the prices of games??
People have been saying that $60/game was probably for the high end games or that the price would eventually drop.
I don't think so(meaning this is my opinion). I think $60 will be the standard price of games with $80 being the high end and the only games costing less than $60 will be the smaller games or games with less budget. (games that didn't sell well, etc etc)
People who don't have $400 up front for a new console plus money for games and maybe an extra controller or two are going to be screwed in the long run if we actually want those features that are in the "delux" package. It's going to cost a lot more than $100 to upgrade it later on.
Also don't forget that if you buy the cheaper version you still have to buy memory carts if you want to save games.
Sigh. This is retarded. I was hoping to get either a PS3 or XBox 360 along with a Revolution (which I'm getting for sure) but now it looks like they're both going to be too expensive for what I want.
So people who want a working PS3 for a decent price are going to have to wait another 3 years and people who want a 360 with all the standard features and a decent price are going to have to do the exact same thing.
Not to mention the fact that the style of games for the XBox are pretty much the same crap you've already been playing on your PC for the past 7 years.
What gets me is that they're trying to impress people with killer graphics on amazing hardware yet none of it seems any better than current gen games on my PC which is (using made up fanyboy numbers) about 10-15x slower than the 360 and PS3?? HAH what a joke!
The pre-rendered CRAP that Sony showed looks only slightly better (if even that) than Battlefield 2 running on my 3ghz machine with a gig of ram and the PS3 is suppose to be what? 10x faster than that or so? (using those made up fanboy numbers again)
I think I'd rather spend $400 bucks upgrading my PC.
One of my main complaints about the PS and PS2 was their lack of 4 controller ports which in turn meant very few games that supported up to 4 players (with out going online of course).
Nobody buys those damn aftermarket controller port things.
I like to play games with people who are actually in the same room. It's more fun that way.
I read it. Sounds about right, I think? I saw that it got modded up! That's a plus. Good god, what am I doing reading slashdot at 4 PM? Will this day ever end? Ahhhhhh work sucks I want to go home!
I agree with most of what you said but I don't agree that selling well in all markets is a must.
I don't see how Microsoft selling well in Japan could have possibly helped their situation much.
If they were #1 in Japan and everywhere else I could see it.
I could see Nintendo doing ok even if it's only selling good in 1 or 2 markets. (Profit on the systems, profit on the games and smart with their money)
I don't know much about the Saturn. Did Sega sell them at a loss? Did the games sell well in Japan? If they sold the system at a loss and didn't make up for it in game sales then of course they're not going to do well regardless of how well the system sells in other markets.
hahaha thats pretty funny

I also remember reading other Microsoft quotes about this in various other places but I don't feel like finding them all right this very second.
I don't remember ever hearing that, but regardless it's still not the same thing.

why don't they just trademakr A E I O U and sometimes Y

And miss potential buyers during the holliday season?
Go tell that to IBM, Motorolla, TI, Intel, AMD
Still a pretty huge jump between the Coleco and NES.
I use to love that Ladybug game. Kinda like pac-man. I miss my old Coleco
"after March 31, 2006" is pretty vague.
I'm sure the Revolution won't come out until later in the year, and Z:TP hopefully earlier (April, May?).
Not that this is proof of anything, somebody else posted it earlier: http://www.miyamotoshrine.com/theman/quotes/index. shtml

You get what you pay for.
I try to buy quality stuff most of the time, but when I need something cheap cheap I like to have that option available to me you know what I mean?
