Twenty percent of U.S. homicides occur in four cities with just 6% of the populationâ"New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Washington, D.C.â"and each has or, in the cases of Detroit (until 2001) and D.C. (2008) had, a requirement for a license on private handguns or an effective outright ban (in the case of Chicago) - Wikipedia
Horseshit! Most people who own (hand)guns own them for "home protection", presumably burglary & home invasion. The problem with that is that most people never experience a home invasion, unless they're involved in the distribution or manufacture of illegal drugs. And burglars typically don't come armed, since if they're caught doing a burglary while armed the penalties are much harsher.
So these people who own guns for "home protection" are not typically carrying them when they are assaulted or robbed on the street.
On top of all that is the actual usefulness of guns in the first place. Unless you're well trained and practicing regularly, handguns are pretty useless for actually shooting a person who doesn't want to be shot. Ever go to a gun range? If you do, look at how ridiculously close most handgun shooters have their targets. At that range, you're better off running up to your foe and punching them. Shotguns and rifles are far better firearms for shooting under pressure of threat. But most citizens can't walk around their city armed with a rifle or shotgun.
Most of the arguments for handgun ownership are specious at best. And the most ardent gun advocates live in areas with very little threat from "the bad guys".
And for what it's worth, yes, I am a handgun owner.
And this, I think, is one of the most asinine things to come out of Redmond. If you must split your OS, then split it between desktop and server, not all these ridiculous fragments MS has done starting with Vista.
It's stupid, and confusing for consumers.
The truth is, I'm surprised people take Microsoft seriously anymore as an OS vendor. I would never recommend Windows for a consumer user. I wouldn't recommend Linux for a non-technical consumer user either.
"Most books"? Are you sure? Do you know what the ratio is for fiction to non-fiction, or non-fiction history/biography/etc. to instruction/handbook/reference?
I don't know those ratios, but you sound like you do. What are they?
Seriously. I don't see the problem with iTunes. It's a media portal. It's not bloated, it's integrated. And it does what it does better than any other apps that do what it does. On macs & Windows machines.
I don't know about Linux iTunes clones or alternatives, 'cause all my Linux machines are servers.
A hundred years?! Goddammit, I'll be dead by then! Unless some pretty amazing advances in medicine happen in the next decade. Besides, I was promised a flying car by now, it is the 21st Century.
Can I at least get a flying car? How about ubiquitous electric cars? Aliens? Sexbots? Anything? *crickets*
Whatever, Eeyore. Images that lend themselves to the kind of interpolated guesswork that this uses are blurry ones. Y'know, the kind you get in the real world?
BZZZZZT! Use the term "Obamacare" and poof, thinking people write you off as a wingnut. Because linking the black democratic president's name with something you think is bad or evil, marks you as being a) partisan, and b) racist.
And if you have "some notions", then put 'em out there. Don't allude to them like you've got the super secret answer, but "Heheheheh", you're not going to reveal it.
Bastards! I just e-mailed my congressman. But he's a Republican, so he'll probably just give a sinister laugh and use a $100 bill to light a Cuban cigar.
But seriously, these right-wingers are starting to act like cartoon villains. "Heh heh heh, how can I fuck over my constituents today? Ah hah! Schools! I know, I'll say teachers make too much money, and say we can't afford them. Muahahahaha! Keep 'em stupid, I say. Then they won't know I'm fucking them over! Ha! And I'll blame it all on someone else..."
'It's pretty obvious at this point that voluntary guidelines aren't solving this problem,' says Rockefeller. 'It's time for us to take a new look at this problem and find a way to solve it once and for all.'"
Wait. What? You mean if you don't regulate an industry they won't just do the right thing and regulate themselves, especially when they can profit by not self-regulating? Shocking! I'm shocked!
But deregulation leads to innovation, right? So these "landline" phone companies are producing amazing innovative products, right? Yeah, innovative ways of ripping off consumers.
"XP is 10 years old. Why compare a 10 year old OS with the latest version of MacOS X?"
Why? Because vast swaths of Windows users haven't upgraded because:
a) Vista was a fucking train wreck, and most users down-graded back to XP if they could find a way to.
b) Users are wary of Windows 7 because of Vista and continue to use XP because it works well enough on their current hardware, which was probably "Designed for Windows Vista".
Pffft! Jackhole! Scornful of union supporters and anti-Apple. Wow. Are you always angry too? Really. Really. Angry.

Hey, no fair! You Lost writers are not allowed to comment. You had years to make sense, and you didn't. No do-overs.
But seriously...
"Yes like any good book, questions were left unanswered." BZZZZT!!!
No, actually, a good book tells a coherent story.

Amen to that, brutha! People are reading a lot more into it than what's really there because we can't believe that anyone would intentionally do such bad storytelling. The truth about Lost is the actors were so compelling that they carried the series long after the storytelling had foundered. It's a Ferrari on the outside, but a lawnmower engine on the inside. It's a goat in a thoroughbred suit.
I'm definitely going to boycott Abrams' work from now on.

That doesn't leave you with a lot of choices.

So... you're saying light gives you cancer? Do you also fear light bulbs? Fluorescent tubes? Halogen? LEDs?
I'm pretty sure our light sources, short of the actual sun, are not giving us cancer.

SHE'S A HUMAN! (ah! ooh!) What you don't realize is that Gaga is making you all this money and all you do is write a bunch of crap about her.
LEAVE HER ALONE! You are lucky she even performed for you BASTARDS!
LEAVE LADY GAGA ALONE! ...Please.

d) Vista.

At work I worry about our Dells running Windows. But not our Red Hat server.
But hey, we use AV on our machines.
At home I don't worry about my Mac.
Much ado about one malware kit. Overblown.

Against my will.
