Yup, Zinc whiskers are a big problem as well. I worked in a company that had this problem, we had like 20 power supplies fail before IBM's forensics team could diagnose the problem.
Every time someone moved a floor tile, the whiskers would get broken off and thrown into the air (yeah, I was breathing this stuff) and some would go into the power supplies shorting everything out.
We didn't really notice until it was decided we neeted to run another loop of power and ALL the tiles were lifted along one row of cabinets.
Boom Boom Boom.
Yup, this is a problem people. If your company uses carpeted tiles, get them changed to non metallic, non carpet tiles, as soon as budget permits...
We use IBM X3xx machines, and some of the Dell stuff. Its all good.
If its a personal machine and the parts you need are fairly specific, or you have a budget, you can build your own, but you really can't beat $1500 for a IBM X306.
The reason I asked this, was that about 3-4 months ago I tried various flavours of linux on my machine.
None of them had a working nvidia driver for the video in my PB 17".
Yes, I DID spend a long time looking at google. I mean, for fucks sake, who doesn't? Except for complete idiots, and I KNOW you weren't condescending enough to be thinking I'm a complete idiot, right?
Don't assume that some bleeding newbie is behind every frustrated "Does it work on X" post. Maybe someone who has spent a week staring at console mode on his lovely PowerBook 17 because it just doesn't work is behind it.
You guys are all upset because you havn't filed such a bitchin patent yourselves. Jealousy!
Seriously, these stories are getting boring. Could we have a summary story once a week? The "there is a stupid patent out there and its getting used to hurt businesses" story just isn't news anymore.
I wouldn't suggest 'Spirited Away' as being something I'd consider having appeal that works outside of Japan as well as inside.
Nausicaa and Laputa, made by the same group as "Spirited Away" were much more universal in their appeal. I too didn't understand "Spirited Away" as it draw heavily on Japanese mythology, I think.
"Laputa" is a fun, broad movie that has a grandness of scale that I loved in TV shows like "The Mysterious Cities of Gold", circa 1980's.
Nausicaa is just cool, very alien in some ways but its not based on anything inherently J so I'm pretty sure most western audiences would get it.
I guess this is the kind of thing that I'm asking for when I want different stuff than what is coming out of Pixar these days. I want to see something more grand and provoking that a few goofball superheroes...
Don't get me wrong, I'll watch The Incredibles, and probably enjoy it. I just would like to see something more challenging, not mindless eyecandy for kids/adults with childlike appetites.
No doubt they're sitting on the best ideas for the movies that they'll be making under their own steam.
I don't know what it is about Disney, but I've liked them less and less over the years. Pretty much all they touch over the last few years has turned to crap.
Japanese Anime seems to have much more universal appeal these days. But then, I'm living in Japan, so I'm kinda biased;)
Read the reviews on there? There was one really long post by 'kzoofilm'.
He says, at the end: By the way, Voight's next project is called "The Karate Dog," in which he'll co-star with Simon Rex, Pat Morita and Chevy Chase, who'll provide "the voice of Cho-Cho," according to the Internet Movie Database. Do an Oscar winner a big favor and call him this weekend -- really, the guy must be willing to do just about anything for a couple bucks.
Hahahaha. LMAO.
Oh, I'm so sad that such money can be thrown away so uselessly...
Damn. I just posted, and then read your post. I would have modded you up.
Bang. Nail. On the head. Right there ladies and gentlemen. Wake up Pixar! This is what you need to be making! Not dumass movies about a hick car (I mean, come on, how cliched can you get) and his suave buddy the sports car.
I want to see HHGTG but in technicolour! I want to see the alternate dimensions of string theory space! I want to see a five headed alien father who loses his wife in a horrible accident leaving him to look after his lame son, all by himself, but then the son wanders off and is kidnapped by 9th dimensional beings and the father travels across the UNIVERSE looking for his son and finds him in a fish bowl in a Sydney... oh hang on, sounds familiar...
Its ok, I have my tin foil hat. It keeps the government microwaves from reading my brain patterns.
Seriously folks, what does the patriot act allow the US government to do that it wasn't able to do before, just illegally? I mean, sure, it means they can do this stuff more in the open, but that doesn't mean that they weren't doing it before anyway.
The US Government has been the biggest customer of high-end computing firms for the past fourty years. What do they do with all that computing power? They use a lot of it to churn through the data we create. Not to look for ciminals, or mass murderers, or whatever - no - to look for people that could challenge the status quo, that could expose the real people behind the governments of the last fifty years who control the American people.
Come on, you've seen the X-Files! Its all real! ALL of it! NON FICTION, I tell you!
I've been on slashdot for a VERY long time, and its just going steadily downhill. Its a bit like paying for an O:Line on an IRC network. You can do it, but nobody will admit to it.
Paying for a story on slashdot? You can probably do it, but nobody would ever admit to it.
Or even caring. Ha ha.

I say being on-topic is overrated. Mod it up!
Amen brother.

Well, only when it happens. Its not actually happened yet, and I can't remember the last time something like what you described happened.
Maybe my memory is fauly, or your argument. I don't know which.

haha yeah ;)
Like, you know, i didn't fucking TRY google aready.
Um, does it work on my Aluminium 17" yet? Last time I tried linux, the video support was horrible.
Also, if I can't do dual display, I'm not running it.
Haha
:/
its a great defense too.
"What?! I didn't know I had all this stuff on my machine! I MUST HAVE BEEN HACKED!?!?!?!!?"
It probably will come to this
Thats genius. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

The ideas were meant to be a cliche. But maybe I wasn't being cute enough for you to get the joke.
God, you assholes make me sick.
heh, I giggle at this too, because I was watching this episode on japanese TV JUST LAST NIGHT.

Oh, man, that movie is going to SUCK.
I mean, the thing is only going to appeal to pregnant women and George W Bush supporters
How is he going to send you an email, if you post as an AC?

Not really, I live in Japan ;)
...
But yeah, density has something to do with it
Japan has had FTTH (Fiber To The Home) for years. and they don't limit the speed. Its 100Mbit all the way baby.
Why is it that when the rest of the world catches up, its always limited?
give this man a +1 insightful!
Good advice here.
