Well, it gets silly, because they are not circumventing in order to infringe your copyrighted works, but circumventing your protections in order to gather evidence against you in a court of law.
I think that makes it ok, as far as the law is concerned.
IANAL, but neither is anyone else who has posted to this thread:P
Don't think so. The DMCA is there to protect media rights holders, not the common man.
You can't, say, have a encrypted hard disk, then sue the MPAA for decrypting it when they arrest you for movie trading, based on the DMCA.
You might have a case with regards to privacy... oh, wait, all privacy laws have been stripped away from US citizens since 9/11, so I guess that won't work either.
no, but they might fund telescopes to help them identify asteroids with high levels of rare raw materials that command a high price here on earth and would be worth sending space-bourne mining after.
They might also fund a telescope that could be leased out, profitably, to astronomers around the globe. Depending on the quality of the telescope, astronomers can find budget for telescope time.
In other news, famous slashdot dilettante "delirium of disorder (701392)" was arrested by the BT SWAT team earlier today for attempting to hack the dec.org.uk website using a one line command from his Linux machine. Linux is well known in the computer industry as the operating system of hackers, and all people who use Linux are evil hackers. Especially those using KDE.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how much people on/. bag apple for suing leakers etc, for less than The Most Powerful 64-bit etc... everyone knows that deep down Apple's stuff is just better than Microsofts'.
Apple have embraced Open Source software throughout their product - every mac comes with apache installed for instance, UNIX, 64 bit computing... all the things that/.ers hold near and dear.
While everyone loves to bash Apple, especially considering their past, most people realise that the products they are putting out are pretty damn good.
I waited til 10.1 came out before I bought my first PB 15", and havn't looked back since. I can do pretty much anything I could do with a intel box running linux, plus much more - and it has a GUI that is well thought out and works well. You really need to try it.
A mate here at work was pleasantly surprised when I showed him how ANY application that makes use of the Aqua text entry boxes gets spell checking as you type as a standard feature. I think he realised there is a nice side to having an OS that is designed relatively cleaning from the bottom up.
Most of the geeks I know who never owned a mac before, are now considering a Mac Mini, because its cheap and can be used in a lot of ways - plus its like, not windows. I would hazard a guess that this is Apples evil plan, and before long all those geeks will be queuing up for iBooks and PowerBooks.
And in turn, the masses will follow. Because in the land of computing, the masses always follow the geeks.
In some countries, if there are clauses in a contract which are deemed to be unreasonable by a court, the whole contract can be made null and void.
Mostly, any clause which limits your ability to find work in a different company is termed unreasonable. Any company lawyer trying to use it for employee contracts should be careful, because those employees can turn around and sue the company in a lot of cases for unlawfully attempting to restrict that persons ability to work.
If my entire life I've learnt how to make widgets and I don't know how to do anything else, and I have to leave your company for whatever reason - should I have to be jobless for 2 YEARS? Of course not - and the law would be foolish to allow such a situation.
Popular British Science Fiction Magazine reported Enterprise set crew being fired in March.
According to SFX, supposed set spy "Trekspy" who works on Enterprise's set is due to be out of a job by March. "Trekspy" may be out of a job, but our sources confirm that this is NOT due to Enterprise being cancelled.
Our source say although UPN can pull the plug on the show anytime, the current plan on the set is to continue through the planned 22 episodes this season. The article is correct in that the last episode of the season (episode 22) will conclude principle photography in early March.
Manny Coto has also told TrekToday "It's another inane rumour. Right now, the crew is building the sets for episodes 20-21, which I'm writing. Rick [Berman] and Brannon [Braga] are writing episode 22, which is going to be fantastic!"
Well, someone had to say it. I mean, Firefox kicks it all ver, and I don't have any ads to deal with, though this isn't an issue with the 'free licenses for educational use'. Bah. I'm no student, why do I care?
Its just an opinion, but why bother with opera when you have firefox?
I have one of these keyboards. Actually using it to type this right now.
I love it. Its the best keyboard ever made. One of the keys sticks sometimes and its loud and clacky... and I love it. It feels like I'm actually typing something, not mushing my fingers on some sponges.

Have to agree with you here.
Got two dead shuttles littering my living room. I ended up ripping the CPU out of my A64 one and putting it into a normal mobo and its been working fine since then.
I like the form factor, but none of the manufacturers are making very reliable kit. If you want reliable, try Asus or Gigabyte mobos in a standard case.
The small form factor sure looks cute, but its not buying you anything in the way of reliability.

Nice troll.
I use a mac, and a two button mouse. Have done for years. So do most people.
There has been at least one story the last couple of weeks that analyses why the one button mouse was a good idea, and still is. Go read them.
1. Makes software developers not overload the context menu
2. Simpler for beginners.
I can't count how many times in my distant past I had to say "No, the RIGHT mouse button. The RIGHT ONE."
I was talking about the OP. :)

Face it America: You're screwed.
I think so. One of the inventors says in the video that it is detected as a standard USB keyboard and mouse.
...
I also assume it will work under Mac OS X.
I think I might get one. I think these things are going to be popular for some weird reason

genius. Pure genius.
Sounds like Peter Brock's
"Energy Polariser"
Magical device that makes stuff work better. Pah. Never worked back then, won't work now.
Yah buddy, right with ya.
I wish I had mod points.

Look! There is even an image of the NEXT powerbook, the G6!!

It would have been my fourth one! But I will wait until the G5. I'll also wait until after the bugs have been ironed out.
I have a 1st gen 17" and its a bit whiney.
I'm getting 100mbit by end of the month here in japan. I will want to see if I can get it slashdotted.
ee-yup. I think thats why most of them don't "get it".
I was 9, back then 8-bit was what it was all about. GEOS was about the best desktop UI you could get at the time on the commodore 64.
Macs were otherworldly, wholely different peices of engineering that were orders of magnitude more powerful than anything else at the time.

Anything over 32kbit is luxury for voice comms.
If your upload speed is hurting, maybe you should just down your gnutella client, use use a traffic shaper.
for over $400!
No, get some cheaper 2700DDR.
You can also hold down the mouse button as you power on to eject it if the OS doesn't see the disk as inserted already.
Ah, I'm a veritable storehouse of useless information.
I'll let you know when I pick one up. I hope they make it to Tokyo by the end of the month ..

Move along, nothing to see here, no news here.
OK, so there was a single server hosting macworld's site, and Apple have 1000 xserves behind some load balancers?
I mean come on people. How much *money* you spend on your net infrastructure dictates how well it will
survive.
Apple spent enough, Macworld didn't. Get over it. Why is this a story?
