FreeBSD binary packages are already on the KDE FTP, so you should get those. The port will probably take a couple of weeks, if the past is any indication.
2.2 works great on FreeBSD, the only problem I've found so far is that SSL is completely shot. So you'll have to do without https for a while in Konqueror. Too bad.
I agree, this is probably the beginning of the end for Java. The problem is people's lazyness... if you move in small enough steps, you can get them anywhere and they won't notice or care.
When did "ACLU" become a dirty word? How did defending the bill of rights come to be out of fashion? Did I miss the spaceship that took all the rational people away?
Seriously -- practices like this are becoming far too acceptable by the general public. Why? Does it start at home? Are we as a society raising drones who refuse to question authority or take an active role in something as running this city/county/country (i.e. voting)?
Ok. Stop the ride. I want to get off. It's finally starting to make me sick.
1. You assume people in China can't go home for unrestricted access. There are many ISPs in China, and the measure in question is only aimed at public cafes.<br>
2. You assume people get shot for trying to circumvent it. (?!!?!) That is just ridiculous.

The article only talks about porn and online gambling type activities which is what's being censored in public places in North America as well. But people tend to assume that the Chinese being evil communist scum must have something much more sinister planned. Try to use your head before jumping to the conclusions your government wants you to.
Amen, brother. The number of people who immediately jump on the "Ha! Damn communists! Sure glad I live in the Land of the Free!!" bandwagon only shows how successfully the media in the West, particularly the U.S., have instilled in their population a conditioned reflex for keywords like "china" and "communism". People should learn to use their heads.
It's shocking when then Chinese do it, yet it's been happening in North American libraries and schools for years, with any kind of censorware you can name.
No more international news, please

I think Slashdot should stop "reporting" about international science events, as these always stink of american fascism and chauvinism, especially in the case of Russia and other non-submissive countries. The posting in itself is disturbing, and more than half the comments show complete ignorance and an inexplicable deep-seated xenophobia, or at least anti-Russianness.
Slashdot and its mob isn't ready for the world. Stick to stories from Dunkwater, Alabama.
If the RIAA had its way, the only thing coming down the Internet pipe would be ads, and the only thing going up would be credit card numbers. It's good that people are looking for alternatives to Napster, but it would also be wise to develop some kind of activism against attempts to limit functionality of the Internet (which is what these rulings really are) before it's too late.
Unions are the only way for workers to organize and to have any power whatsoever in influencing what their conditions, pay, etc, will be. I don't understand the people here who talk about unions being useless and 'bad for the economy' and so on. I understand them if they're like venture capitalists, or big CEOs or whatever, because unions do prevent those people from squeezing the most of their workforce, but someone SHOULD prevent that.
A technology workers' union would be good for technology workers. That much is certain.

How do you figure it's not a mainstream film? It's starring a bunch of world-famous "stars" and it's playing in every theatre in north america. Never mind that I've had to see the commercial on tv at least a thousand times so far... and transit posters...
That's as mainstream as it gets, friend.
English accents are popular

You ever notice how every sitcom has to have a character who speaks with an english accent nowadays? Same with many movies. It's just the IN thing right now. This movie will definitely be a success then. It's packed with english accents and london slang, no doubt.
Just read the article. I take back that I think it's good, I didn't think techies would be going to military-type companies, for chrissakes. That's the last thing anyone needs.
This is good overall, I think, as most DotComs turned out to be vapour, which was semi-obvious from the start. Now all the skilled tech-types who were working for them can do something useful.

i guess their marketing people know what they're doing.
Does anyone else find it funny that Yahoo's CEO's family name is Koogle? It's just too good. You know?

Why do you say Osama Bin Laden is a bad man? Do you know him personally?
Why couldn't you rip off companies AND feel proud at the same time? I don't see a conflict of any sort there.

What does it mean to be "doing game pseudo code" exactly? That's what I'd like to know. Please.
Okay, I have a question for limpdawg.
Who is your greatest inspiration in life?
Now, what I'd really like is a leather s&m outfit for my mouse.

this is about an mp3 cd standard. not about whether such devices exist.
If the software is release quality, package binaries too, by all means. But keep source available.
High end imagery? Don't you mean imaging?
Geez.
