    i would like to get an internet-connected thermostat that I could monitor from work. I live in a hot area, and I worry about the apt getting to hot for the cats. If I could watch the temp online and turn the unit on or off I would like that.

    that was old. we're talking about the imessage platform that has always been in use on iphone, and two years ago came to mac as well. see the chart in the link for more info.

    there's a couple exceptions. One, every iphone comes with imessage and facetime, so if gramps and granny have an iphone then they are using these. Another option is cell calls and SMS, which also are on every phone but are horribly insecure.

    The Supreme Court has the final say here. The only option is for a later Supreme Court to change the opinion.

    The civil rights acts from the sixties extend equal protection to individuals. The regulation of businesses in this was ruled constitutional by Supreme Court due to commerce clause.

    I don't know the constitutional details, but generally speaking homosexuals are considered a protected class. Gun owners are not considered a protected class for civil rights purposes.

    with the inevitable result that your internet browsing history will be used against people trying to resist demands during divorce.

    why would my internet history be used against others in divorce court? I don't see how that kind of evidence would be relevant.

  18. i don't know what it means to "worship the invisible hand" - this sounds like a vague masturbation reference. But I do believe that if we are to mitigate the impact of global warming we need to provide solutions that work in a free market. put it another way, we need to help clean technology companies make a buttload of money and help people save money by using clean energy. (disclosure: I work for a clean technology company)

    a pet peeve of mine is that when people quote a time like "1pm pacific time" but want to feel fancy they say "1pm PDT". about half the time they are wrong and should have said 1pm PST! When they're wrong I'm always tempted to show up an hour early or late and feign innocence, saying that I was just doing what they said.

    i looked really hard for a matrix of all their promised features showing which ones worked on which systems. What we saw with finfisher was that non-jailbroken could not be directly penetrated. they could do roundabout means like compromising third-party apps or infecting the computers you use if you connect the phone to a computer (there's no need to do that anymore btw).

    on the other hand if you're jailbroken then they basically own you (note the ios7/ios8 jealbreaks were released by a mysterious chinese hacker group, and the hong kong protesters were hacked on their jailbroken phones). which is why the biggest security risk for iphones is they can be jailbroken. this needs to be fixed ASAP and prevented in future versions.
