  1. "Incentivize" means giving Apple subsidies by tax breaks, direct payment, or other perks. Seriously? Apple has so much cash that they need entire departments to figure out where to stuff it. So even if Apple builds a plant somewhere in the US, where will it be? Somewhere in a place where talent is located and that typically is in short supply of skilled workers? Or in those places where we have economic wasteland and people need to be trained for a long time before they can work in such a plant? And what does he consider 'big' other than his ego? In order to make a reasonable impact that plant needs to employ 10,000+ long term. And even then the question is why? Why go through all this effort to get what would be low paying jobs? I rather see engineering and R&D centers crop up and keep the Chinese gluing the iPhones together. What we need is not factories that operate like it is the 50s. We need future proof options, such as turning old coal mines into hydro power plants, steel factories switching away from making beams towards specialized materials that are stronger and lighter. A throwback to the 80s with trickle down Reagonomics won't work, because it never did.

Coal from China or South Africa is also much cheaper than US coal. Rather than bank on dirty energy the coal mines should be refurbished to be used as hydro power stations. When there is excess power from wind and solar pump water from tanks in the depth of the mines to storage reservoirs at the top. When there is high demand or both wind and solar do not produce enough use the stored energy to generate power. This is not only the most effective means of storing energy that we have available today, it will also require the skills and expertise of miners to build and operate. I guess this is just too communist for the US.

Not only that, nobody gets fired for buying Microsoft...more likely when buying into Zorin. As iggymanz already pointed out, if it doesn't run a wide variety of Windows software reliably well then it surely is not the "ideal choice for large deployments in businesses, governments, schools and organisations". Unless maybe it comes with a client that supports all features of Exchange. Linux in general lacks an office package that comes with a decent email client that has a calendaring feature built in. Thunderbird & Lightning is not bad, but Mozilla kicked TB to the curb and Lightning is a pain in the rear for sharing calendars. The FOSS gurus of the world need to fix that. I think it is more likely that we get yet another fork of yet another dysfunctional app that already has 2342423 forks of which 2342420 are abandoned.

Because it is cheap for the power companies. The biggest expense is safe long term storage and that is covered by tax payers. Same applies to any fallout from accidents. The better option for power generation is renewables because they are safer, but not necessarily better for the environment. As for energy storage, use the old coal mines as pumped storage hydro power station. That not only is highly efficient, but also requires the skills and know how of current mine workers to operate the plant. What is often ignored is the dire need of curbing consumption regardless of how power is generated. A lot can be saved when implementing intelligent technology and better designs...such as a power mains switch on every and all electric devices.

Hispanics are the group of people originating from Central and South America as well as Mexico (around here Mexico is considered North America, other places consider it Central). The point is that the two groups are of quite different origin and different cultural background. It really is not that difficult to understand.

Yes, it was economic, because keeping the vast empire together required excessive military spending and took up most of the resources so that for the the general public not much was left. Even the military was grossly underfunded. But that was only part of the issue, one huge aspect was that those in charge had no real clue on how to manage such a large operation. Those before them who did made sure that whatever area they occupied had its needs met and kept its cultural identity. That way much less military force was needed because there was almost no reason for rebellion. As far as entitled foreigners goes...they were not foreigners, but citizens of the Roman empire. Likewise, many of the Romans were sent into the provinces as governors.

  12. SSDs are now cheap and easy to install....means Apple would be losing money because customers buy the already ridiculously overpriced model with the smallest SSD and then spend a few bucks extra to upgrade with a 3rd party module. That's a no go for Apple. They rather charge 200-400 Dollars more for an upgrade that cost 100 Dollars or less. The only option here is to stop buying the excessively overpriced Apple stuff. Almost 3k$ for a 15" and you do not even get a lousy USB port. The real kicker is 4-5 weeks shipping time. You'd think with the piles of cash that Apple has they could finally fix their massive production bottleneck. A Windows laptop for 1000 bucks is surely a nice device with all the bells and whistles....and you get three of them for the price of a 15" MacBook.

  19. Nobody gets fired for buying Microsoft. As far as cost goes, in some cases there are both closed source and open source alternatives that are drastically less expensive than what Microsoft has to offer. The support needs for Windows are lower because the world today grew up with Windows. I do not know how LiMux looks and behaves like, but if it would be a spitting image of Windows support expenses will go down. Also, with switching to Linux each and every IT issue in the Munich administration got blamed on Linux, although a good chunk of issues had absolutely nothing to do with that. I do agree that the Linux world as a whole is mediocre to craptastic on the desktop and especially with interoperating with other systems. About half a year ago I wanted to build a system that made use of excess hard drives so that I can use that system as always on backup storage. I tried various Linux distros and attempted to create network shares that can be easily access from a number of Windows boxes. I don't say it is not possible, but the GUI tools suck, setting permissions was an unmitigated disaster, and after accessing a share on one box I could not access that same share on a different box providing the exact same credentials. I eventually gave up and obtained another Windows license. Similar issues with my TV card, network printer, and other hardware. Yes, there is documentation out there, but aside from a few we users do not want to compile stuff from source, do not want to type in five yard long command line parameters, and spend significant amount of time to get permissions just right for stuff to work. I admit, I want it to be easy and I want a decent GUI tool. I don't think that is too much to ask in 2016. While there is some benefit to having different distros, the sheer number is mindboggling. There is a ton of duplicated effort that could be saved when the FOSS world would focus on two or three distros and make those as great as possible in their targeted area. I have no hope that this will ever happen because it would require FOSS developers and project leads to compromise and cut their egos down a notch.
