I'd say that PDA's and phones have quite a large overlap.

My list of phone numbers is in my PDA. If I want to call someone, I have to copy it to a phone.

Whilst on the call, I might want to book an appointment, so my diary application is needed. If the remote end could send a set of DTMF's or 1200 baud modem tones, and offer me the appointment, that would be great.

Finally, internet access over the phone would be very useful. Connect to a website to find out what's playing at the movies tonight.

Obviously entering or viewing data while using a voice phone isn't terribly easy, but with a decent design, it's not required.

The ratings have been falling in direct coorelation to the increase of inclusion of "sports" such as syncronized swimming, where there is no objective standard, and instead a judge has to decide if they like what the performers are doing. Of course, the American judge never likes what the Russians are doing, and the Russian judge never likes what the Americans are doing. It's become a big game of politics, and it stinks.

Now obviously a coorelation is not a cause, but it's just one example of how the modern Olympics is no longer about how well people can run, jump throw things etc, and instead it's become a huge commerical jingoistic bribrary ridden folly.

Go back to the focus being on the athletes. Limit it to real sports that the winner can be objectivly measured. Make them the best adults in their fields. No more 14 year old kids with eating disorders too scared of their coaches to quit. Get rid of the national anthems in the medals, the national team coloured tracksuits and the country names in the scoreboards. If Michael Johnson or Alexei Nemov win it's not because they're American or Russian, it's because they are Michael Johnson or Alexei Nemov.

The biggest section of the CD buying public is teenage girls, who don't have credit cards, so you cannot limit purchasers to those who have credit cards.

    The Offical findings include

    • No single ignition source of the fire was conclusively identified.
    • The Command Module contained many types and classes of combustible material in areas contiguous to possible ignition sources.
    • Coolant leakage at solder joints has been a chronic problem.
    • The coolant is both corrosive and combustible.
    • Deficiencies in design, manufacture, installation, rework and quality control existed in the electrical wiring.
    • These deficiencies created an unnecessarily hazardous condition and their continuation would imperil any future Apollo operations.
    • The Command Module Environmental Control System design provides a pure oxygen atmosphere.
    • This atmosphere presents severe fire hazards if the amount and location of combustibles in the Command Module are not restricted and controlled.

The only mention I can find of velcro in the whole report is when velcro straps burn, but this is some 15 seconds after the start of the fire, so they're obviously not the cause.

when you look at a piece of code you either know from a set of very simple rules what it does,

The simple rule for perl is that a sub without an argument operates on $_ unless otherwise specified. Therefore, as given in the example, "chomp" operates on $_, while "chomp $thing" operates on $thing. Some subs do not operate on scalars, and others require more than one argument, so these subs must be called with the appropriate paramaters, however is is very natural in programming. You know that 'rename' requires two paramaters, so you have to supply them both.

At least, if you don't like this behaviour, you can get C like required paramters by simply adding in the parameter on each sub call, "chomp $_" is identical to "chomp". My least favourite disfeature of python, it's syntaxly important indentation is impossible to avoid.
