  1. bit off topic on SCO Releases Linux OS for Itanium 2 · · Score: 1

Anyone know where I can download a free, full linux system for itanium?

Can't find anything on the red hat and suse sites, and the debian distribution I found was only text mode, no X etc. Yet, it took so long just to install such a simple system.

Ok, enough complaining. To regurgitate: does anyone know where I can download a good linux itanium dist for free =) ?? Where? URL's?

I simply think they should improve mozilla rather than starting from scratch, and losing much of it's wonderful functionality. If you want a no-frills-lean browser, use galeon, and leave my mozilla alone to grow.

Mozilla is the best browser available, why lose that momentum for a year? Just because it is free software doesn't mean it can keep surviving bad decisions.

Read the link I posted that explains why, more elegantly than I can.

Ok, you have some good points.

This speed thing is dubious though. I just installed both on an extra 1ghz machine. I can't tell any difference except on app load time.

Seeing as I load mozilla about once a week after warcraft crashes, I don't see how this makes much difference.

Phoenix doesnt seem to have lots of functionality that moz has either. For instance, most of the managers, and instead of my slick keyword bookmark, "g enter keywords" in the location bar, there is some stupid google bar I can't get rid of. Most of the advantages I see people mention about phoenix were included in moz in 1.2 or 1.3. Oh, and it has better standard defaults, but I just made a user.js file and havent looked back.

It certainly doesn't make it worth while to lose all this funtionality just to improve load time.

Work flow improvements are fine, but moz should be refactored to add this functionality, not restarted from almost scratch.

I do agree with it. You say in the next sentence you don't really use the original Mac OS, and that's the problem. The gui's you mention are all just poor copies of each other. Maybe you used it a few times and didn't see what the fuss is about.

Really, until you sit down in front of an old mac for 6 months, without anything else available, you wont understand. About 10 years ago this was what happened to me at a job, until they coughed up a PC for me to use as well. Once you learn how things should work, it just sucks to go back.

Imagine a computer where you almost always know where your shit is, because you recognize it by sight, as well as name. If you don't like an application in this folder..... move it to that folder, and it still works!! Try such a simple thing on dos or unix and watch it crash and burn, bitching and complaining about its libraries, as if I care.

They solved that problem 20 years ago for crying out loud.

Of course this simplicity is also saddled by piss poor multitasking and Windows 95 level stability. It is an imperfect world =(.

OS X still hasn't reached the goal of a mac gui on a modern kernel, although it is arguably the closest.

Acutally I prefer the fonts and feel of the gui on windows xp (de-fischer-priced, of course), although it still doesn't have the elegance of the finder a decade ago. YMMV.

Quake 3 has lots of blocky square guys running around at 300 fps on modern machine. Makes about as much sense as benchmarking it with the original wolfenstein.

This isn't what the card is designed for and it isn't probably going to perform as well as a card several hundred $ cheaper that is.

Why cant mozilla be refactored? Instead of thrown out? http://joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000069.h tml

Rewrite again and mozilla is as good as dead as a mainstream browser. Winamp also is pulling this crap too, maybe they share the same idiot management.

If you cant keep the technical lead over microsoft, you are doomed. Take a step back in features, and delay 6 months or a year and watch IE7 crush whatever feeble beachhead they made in the browser wars.

If you don't want one of the other components, don't #@$#%ing install them! (And quit yer whining.)

Why would I want to go back to another half finished browser?? I think this decision is a mistake, and just serves to lose momentum.

I think a better idea would be to work on making mozilla more modular and making other performance tweaks. Why reinvent the wheel again?

The cylinder spun so fast the smoke particles were trapped against the insides of the walls. It was then collected and pressed into bricks or something, I forget....
