It seems to me that if we can engineer the DNA nessesary to create these bacterium, ( using computers I am sure ), and if "more complex plants and animals" are not such a stretch from creating the bacterium, then we should be able to model these life forms entirely on a computer.
I read an article that the web is "19 clicks wide" on average. ( I may have seen it here on Slashdot ) However if you could get sued for linking to an mp3 directly and they decided to sue for linking to a page that was linked to an mp3 then everybody on the net could get sued.

I say fsck high tech digital filmaking. It is not art. It is crap.
One of my favorite films is 'Natural Born Killers' and that movie would have sucked had Hollywood and George Lucas or the other hi-tech assholes had got a hold of it. That film was made in 8mm, 16mm, a couple kinds of video, animation ( ala "The Wall" ). You can't convince me that making it "Digital" would have been better.
I also liked Pulp Fiction. Same idea here.
I will do my part for the big high tech films. I will wait for the VHS Video or watch it on TV.
Even if Microsoft eventually wins, years from now as long as they are under pressure from the government it allows the OEM's to have a little freedom and offer other operating systems with 'less' fear of Microsoft retaliation.
I am sure all this news frenzy around Linux and Open Source would not have been as intense had MS been able to FUD back even harder that it is.
You would not have seen all the investment by OEM's and others in Redhat.
You probably would only have seen Corel's support and Microsoft would have found a way to put the nail in the Corel's coffin. Now they are restrained from banging nails into coffins and if it drags on and on it will become a moot point if Microsoft wins or loses.
Is Jed-Eye Gates going to breath heavy and wear a black costume as his evil empire takes over in the coming episode: Internet II?
Or is Linus ( along with Jed-Eye master Eric Raymond ) going to defeat the M$Dark-Side with a small rebel force of fanatic cute little stuffed penguin-like-creatures that live in the woods, and free us from the M$-Menace?

While we are at it lets replace oil paints and water color and grease pencils. Make everyone use the gimp and a nice HP printer.
Instead of teaching brush stroke technique and the mixing of paints for different colors, we will just move the mouse with the proper paint brush style and click on a color we like.
Do you think maybe we can get the graffiti taggers to give up spray paint for a mouse as well?
Who needs to learn about under exposing ectachrome 64 slide film by a half step to make the color saturation richer? Or the cool effects of indoor film under mercury vapor lamps at night?
Hell, why worry about color at all? You can click it in later with your mouse.
I feel sorry for all the digital idiots who will never see a photo appear magically on a blank white sheet of paper when dipped in the finishing solution.
The digital camera is a tool. It will have its place. I seriously doubt it will take its place along what is considered art photography.

These transfer rates are perfect for multitrack digital recording. AND the size of hard drives these days are big enough for entire multitrack projects to be done without constant CDR archiving. Instead you could do tape back-ups..
The stability of linux and the true multitasking would actually make it a better OS for these applications than MacOS 8.5. We have lost entire weeks of work due to OS failure followed by some disk failure.
Digi Design has an NT port but I still have no heard of ANY recording studio opting for that solution.
