When will people stop asking about when Dell will start using AMD CPUs?
If you want a machine with an AMD CPU, go to someone else. Dell is hardly the end-all-be-all of desktop computers. Yes, they're huge. No, that doesn't mean they're the best, are the least-expensive or have the best service. They're merely the most-popular.
Short of that, think about what kind of career you want, and what companies hire people that do what you want to do. Call said companies (or e-mail, whatever), and ask the people there what would be most useful.
that a "National ID" won't make anything or anyone more secure. You should all be freaking _terrified_ if the digitized file containing your biometric data is ever stolen - then you're screwed for life, no matter what. Well, unless you get eye & fingerprint transplants.
Warlords was a lotta fun - a multiplayer breakout, very cool.
The problem here is that once you collect all these joysticks, then you've got a big collection of joysticks to hook & unhook, depending on which games you want to play. They should figure out a way around that, like have one joystick, with, I dunno, a cartridge system or something.
Perhaps that's why there are razor thin margins in the memory space - there are few producers of memory chips, and some of those producers dump memory in certain markets, which increases the pricing competition. Punishment for dumping on other markets, when it happens, only happens after the fact, so it doesn't really change pricing.
What you don't realize is that there are very few actual makers of memory chips (modules are different). There have also been numerous proven cases of dumping over the years. It happens. The margins on RAM _are_ razorthin, though. Only harddrives have similar margins these days. I'm still seeing GeForce 4mx (MX!) cards going for over $100, while others sell for under $50. Some computer cases go for under $50 (WITH PSU), while others go over over $200 (withOUT PSU). That's the way the industry has evolved.
Probably because toasters & automobiles don't have razor-thin margins like memory does. And let's not forget - the memory manufacturers get away with it because they CAN.

Hey, that sounds like a handy feature for checking for black ice & whatnot. Also for checking on altitude without relying on the instruments. VFR rulez!
To Fark or Slashdot? The answer is 'yes' for both.
For Fark ('TotalFark'), you get access to all the submissions, not just the ones they decide to accept. What this means is you get access to a lotta boobies links before they get, well, farked.
Same deal with Slashdot - stories are accessible before the general populace can see them, so you have a chance to check out a site before it gets pounded into oblivion. Plus you can choose not to see ads. And, even cooler for those like me, you can access ALL of your previous posts (I've got over 1600 posts going back years). One of these weekends when I'm feeling really bored, I intend to go back through them all and save the ones I wish I had saved in the first place. I crack myself up, you see.:)
It's really _not_ worth it, plus the focus of Slashdot is way different than that of Fark. Plus there are some really weird people behind the scenes at Fark that will ban you for practically nothing. I let my TotalFark sub lapse.
There are plugins for MT to prevent comment spam & to provide other features, though I don't know of a polling plugin. (registered users & polling are my most-wanted features. MT 3 will have registered users, but I haven't heard if it'll have polling.)
You'll note I said the announcer did that, not me. I didn't live long enough to continue using a 4-digit UID by insulting people with dark helmets. I do not lack faith, so do not be disturbed.:)
Yeah, and the name he _was_ going to use was 'Dark Helmet,' but the announcer guy changed it at the last second because he thought it sounded silly or something.
Yo. Nerd. You're on Slashdot. That should be, "Last gas 1,024 miles!"
Or kilometers, depending on if you're non-American.
They should make a vehicle that runs on snow for down there. Some kind of "snowmobile." Yeah, that'd be good. Either that or penguin-powered. Too bad it's the wrong pole for polar bears - they'd be fun to ride. You know, except for the mauling and eating bit.

Move to the country, and eat you a lotta peaches.

But trust me on the peaches.

Oh, wait...
All of a sudden, that commercial comes to mind, "The _stapler's_ down! The _stapler's_ DOWN!"
They'd best make sure they have a support contract for their staplers. And for their pens & pencils, etc. Critical items, all.
Maybe this explains why it's so expensive to do business here, and jobs have to be shifted overseas. Then we can get our stapler support from India!
Symmetry. I like it.

Nah, we'll just make use of all that ridiculous harddrive space available nowadays and swap to disk, w00t!

Yes you can, but then you're hurting Slashdot financially when you do that. Why would you want to hurt Slashdot? You're naughty.

Yeah, and the neuralizer doesn't hurt, either, cuz, you know, "damn." :)

Yeah, I sent a note to the editor about that before the posting went live, but no correction on it as yet. *shrug* Welcome to Slashdot.

Yikes.

emacs isn't a TUI; it's a way of life! :)
Hey, they _finally_ found the Achilles Heel of Linux - that's a pretty major story, no? And it took them _how long_? :)
:)
Seriously, though, Linux's Achilles Heel as far as hardware support goes is hardly sound cards - it's accelerated 3D drivers for current video cards.
Hey, think they'll show what Achilles' real Achilles Heel was in the upcoming movie TROY? I bet it's Jennifer Anniston.
I'm sure the Highlander will invent a shield to protect us when the time comes.
Still better than South Dakota!
:)
So the next step is, what, condos? Sure, the commute to the Vally is a killer, but look at those prices!
