Ubuntu and OS X will both be getting even nicer. Nothing like a 2 or 3 year lead-time for your competition. Really, MS is giving Canonical and Apple a *gift*!
Now, let's hope the Excel 2007 team can learn basic multiplication in time for the next release cycle. I won't hold my breath - I found a very similar problem with Excel while testing it back in 1998. *shrug*
Lots of them available on eBay these days, though they're not cheap. There's the upgraded version of the 11 (I think it's the 14, but I can't remember right now) that I'm thinking about getting, and keeping my 11 around as a spare.
They have the new version out now for financial use, I think, with that nasty goldish colour; I'm hoping they come out with a new 11/14c version some day. These things obviously don't last forever. Perhaps a nice new solar powered version?
I must admit, I found Serendipity especially irritating when I was trying to hack it a bit earlier this year. I think if I were to use anything other than WP, it would have to be Drupal.
Wikipedia has an article on the subject, and suggests mapping Craiglist listings on a Google Maps map as an example of a mashup.
So does Wikipedia also link to HousingMaps.com, or just talk about it as if it didn't already exist? (No, I'm not gonna bother finding the article to see; this is a good excuse to get the link out there to the peeps.)
If you want to make a 'fair' comparison to fossil fuel sources, okay, great, but don't forget the total cost - include the environmental cleanup costs of each. The environmental costs of making the panels and what to do with them after their useful life is over, and the environmental cleanup costs of coal (production, transportation, processing, burning, the cost of the plants, etc.). I bet your calculations will come out differently then.:)
It depends on a few things. If Google really *has* already got the phone OS & UI done or mostly done, then choosing a phone platform that already exists, and negotiating a service contract might not take that long. I still very much doubt that it'll happen this year, but it's not impossible, depending on the work that's already been done. I just wouldn't count on a unique new hardware platform for the phone with that kind of schedule. Making a high-tech phone doesn't require any new technology these days. 3G has been around for a while, as has GUIs for phones, java, etc. It's all there in existing handset designs (HTC, most likely). Pick GSM or CDMA, negotiate a contract (T-Mobile or Verizon, please! (if in the US)), and roll.
That kind of talk is traitorous! We need to take the fight to the enemy. We should fight them there so we don't have to fight them here. The only good bug is a dead bug! We'll be greeted as liberators, I'm sure. Never forget beautiful Cusco, Navel of the World!
Now that it's got WiFi. (Plus there's some sort of deal for free access to the iTunes store if you're at a Starbucks).
It can surf the web, not just the iTunes store or YouTube, which is the killer part for me. Basically, a phone-less iPhone that's thinner and with 2x the storage.
Also note the $200 price drop on the 8GB iPhone (now the same price as the 16GB iPod touch).
The only real question is - is the battery user-replaceable, or will we have to go through the class action lawsuit with every portable device Apple puts out?
Interesting. It kinda reminds me a bit of the original idea being the 'Commodore One' project (which has since moved to an FPGA design which loads hardware/OS personalities, as I understand it). Too bad the//x didn't happen. I doubt it would have given the Amiga much competition technically (though I'm sure Apple could've competed very well via marketing), due to the lack of all the special co-processors the Amiga used, plus the very advanced (for its time) OS, but it sure sounds like it would've blown away the//gs.
The IIgs may have rocked compared to the Apple//e (which I had at the time), but it was a joke compared to the already-released Amiga 1000. I waited for the IIgs to come out to see how it would compare to the Amiga 1000, and was sorely disappointed. My next computer was an Amiga 500 (it took me awhile to save up the money:)
If I could get ONE wish fulfilled would be for OS scheduling to focus on processes, and not threads, for scheduling.
One wish, and THAT'S what he'd choose? That's effed-up. Evangelize a new set of priorities! Infinite wishes, dumb-ass!
You never know how long the 21st Century is going to last.
I'm pretty sure I know how long it's going to last.

I had hoped that when new nuclear reactors showed up in the U.S., they would be of more sensible designs, like pebble-bed or thorium. *sigh*
Uh, did you change the batteries? :)

Reconize!
Cheers. If I'm lucky it'll soon be available on this side of the pond at the usual 1 USD = 1 GBP exchange rate for 'digital content'...
:)
Shipping costs, ya know.

Hey, maybe you could make a mashup of Quicktime and Linux!

the company has yet to finalize the handset's specifications, OS, production contractor and operating partners
Hmm...that sounds just like my plan to take over the world! I just haven't figured out how, yet, that's all. But just you wait! *shakes fist*

This is *clearly* the work of bugs from the planet Klendathu. Somebody call the Sky Marshall - it's time to kick some bug butt!
I'm not sure how useful a touch screen would be with a screen as small as the iPod classic has...maybe if you used a stylus or something...

Is there equivalent functionality for Xubuntu? (or the other *ubuntu?)
"Must have used Budge; I don't know why they keep reprinting his books."
> I happen to be an expert at COBOL.
:)
Wow, not only that, but you're a dinosaur that can *TYPE*! Awesome.
I'm just glad I finally forgot all that Fortran 77 I was force-fed in college. *shudder*
...you're getting a desktop.
(as a replacement)
Right?

the BogoMIP!
I never heard of the IIx project, and haven't been able to find anything via Google - do you know of anything online where I could read about that?

What Commodore did to the Amiga line was a crime.
