    The ridiculously high-bandwidth 'ultimate' solution would be to record the original in 120fps, which would be able to downgrade evenly to 24 or 30fps, depending on the format you want to output to.

    Too bad you don't know what you're talking about. Except for the two dozen or so buildings serviced by CondoInternet.net, that area of Seattle has the worst ISP services in the metro area. Very bizarre since so many startups are located around there. If the private sector was up to doing this, it would've already happened long ago.

    When the obvious fallacy of trickle down economics becomes known to too many people, it was all too easy to attract people to the Republican banner by waving flags, crosses, and guns. Sadly, they never got out of that rut, and I doubt they ever will, now that they're so openly controlled by corporate interests, and backed by Supreme Court rulings in the guise of 'free speech'.

    You said you're ripping to FLAC this time, i.e. lossless. Once you're done ripping, will you ever have to re-rip from these discs en-masse again? Probably not, so the longevity of your magic drive is actually not an issue.

    It always amuses me when people complain about how Slashdot has gotten worse in some way, or changed focus. No, it hasn't. I waited a long time before getting an account here because at the time, there was no real benefit to having an account. And then the 'first post' idiots started up. Other than that, this is the way Slashdot has always been.

    We choose between the party that taxes us to subsidize farmers and hollywood, or the party that taxes us to subsidize banks and oil companies. You may claim there is a difference, but I don't see enough of one for it to matter.

    I like food and movies way more than fees and pollution. YMMV.

    I recently re-read a lot of Heinlein books, including the Moon is a Harsh Mistress and found that I now see his writing for what it is. He is misogynistic, preachy, and focuses on polygamy and nudity obsessively and at length in several of his books. Even Stranger in a Strange Land turned absolutely retarded at about the halfway mark.

    You should definitely not learn the wrong lessons from reading old (or any) fiction. That doesn't mean you can't get something of value out of it. I've never been a fan of Stranger in a Strange Land.

    Mozilla has lost it's focus and instead of making a good, fast, secure browser they are trying to turn it into a social API with every gee-whiz-bang feature most users don't want or need.

    And yet, FF 16 is noticeably snappier for me than 15 was. Glad they got 16.0.1 out quickly. The developer tool updates in the last few versions are very welcome, as well, and certainly the reduced memory use is very nice.

    sorta proves a good dual core design beats a bad quad core design, i'm pretty sure it also scores higher than the tegra 3 in other benchmarks. i'm not an apple fan and i'm not gonna buy it, but the tegra3 is really poorly designed...

    Agreed, which is why many people prefer the US variant of the GSIII, which has a dual-core Cortex-A15-based design.

    No, it's not "fairly similar", spec-wise. The Galaxy Nexus is noticeably inferior to the GS3, much more like the iPhone 5, in fact. The only thing it has going for it - which is a BIG point for many - is that it's a stock Android experience.
