To me this seems just as bad as when some companyt slaps "on the internet" onto some existing thing and try to patent it/otherwise claim control over it.

Surely mental torture is covered by an existing law. "On the internet" is neither here nor there.

  6. Paying more for used than new. on Vital Parts of Games As DLC? · · Score: 1

    Happens a lot.

The stores that sell used copies are usually the most expensive place to buy new and the prices they charge for used copies tend to be more than the places that don't sell used. At least this is true in the UK. I do not know why people buy at theses places. And this is not even mentioning online new pricing, though if you know where to go you can usually get as cheap as online in a store.

I have even seen these places that sell used copies have an offer on a new game (obviously the suppliers offer not theirs) and that priced the new copies much cheaper than the used in the same store.

As such I concluded the used market is a complete rip off around here, with the one exception being if you want to pick up a fairly old game and that is just because they are scared it will never move.

  7. why would i want two contracts? on Why Netbooks Will Soon Cost $99 · · Score: 4, Interesting

I cannot understand why anyone would want to pay the mobile companies twice.

I currently can use my mobile when appropriate but when I need something more I use bletooth to connect my eee to my phone to use it's connection. Yes this does mean paying more on my phone contract but not as much as 2 contracts would be from what I have seen on these plans already. (I'm in the UK they have been selling like this for quite while now)

Only thing that probably sucks is when it comes time to renew my contract and get a nice shiny new phone there will be no bolt on options and I will be forced to have two contracts to make the mobile companies more money.

This is not a good thing, the only people who would needa mobile broadband only option are people without a mobile. For the rest it should just be bluetooth or whatever to the mobile phone. Yes I realise the operators in the US try to discourage you from this or ban it on most plans, but that is just bollocks, if i can use the interent on my phone whats the difference if I can connect another device? NOTHING, that's what, it just does not help them rip you off.

How can an internet connection EVER be unlimited?

Your connection speed, even if not artificially limited is a limit in its self.

And therefore because it cannot be unlimited the word unlimited shiuld not be used ever in reference to a limited connection.

O2 are good from what I hear but I never trust anyone who uses a term which cannot be true.

ISPs should just set out the limits for you to see and there wll alwasy be some limits.

Music sucked in the 80s is a big statement. Mainstream music in the 80s sucked is somewhat nearer what you hopefully meant.

Synth Pop was not all the 80s was about.

At the begining of the 80s punk was still very much around.

From the mid 80s onwards "inde" was becoming popular.

Metallica started in the early 80s but I am still unable to find their synth pop album.

For the record I like a lot of synth pop also.

Grow up, music comes in 2 forms. Music you like and music you don't. Music you like can be anything, even stuff that you only secretly like because you are not adult enough to admit it yet.

No it does not. Last time I looked previous versions of office still worked as good as they did back then.

You can argue the same for using any software, but it really does not force people into an upgrade cycle.

I think it's more a human obsession that people feel inadequate without the latest version of something. I often talk to people about updating software and they cannot give any good reason for doing it or any benefits they think it will bring. When this is the case people just need to learn that what they have is probably good enough.
